I've always felt like I was missing out because the runners seem to have a blast dressing up in costumes. This was finally the year I signed up for it and the experience was amazing. My friend told me the Route 66 Marathon took it over this year, which is cool since their team is all local. It makes sense for them to also organize this one, sort of like a dress rehearsal for the big event. Since I haven't participated in past years, I can't share comparisons, but I was very impressed by how smoothly ran this event was. Pro tip: pay to have the bib delivered. It's so worth it. My bib arrived early in the week. I was a bit worried about the weather since it was supposed to rain but thankfully it was just a light drizzle. There are many race options: 2k, 5k, 15k and double (5+15k). Everything started on time and there were plenty of water, Gatorade stations and markers along the way. I rarely look at the route mostly because I'm directionally challenged, but this year's included a lot of hills and it went along Riverside, which I love. At the finish line, there were plenty of volunteers handing out medals, full sized chocolate bars, pizza, bananas and beer (you get 2 free drink tickets). OU's college of allied health was providing their services (stretching, manual therapy, massages, etc) at the finish line. From now on, I'll definitely do it every year!

Oh, Tulsa Run. Since you've been taken over by the Tulsa Sports Commission, you just don't seem as…read moreperfect as you used to be. Expo: Okay. Small, but not bad. Chiropractors, gyms, running stores - the usual booths at running expos. It wasn't horribly crowded, which is a plus. When I got there at 3pm Friday, there were no lines to wait in to get your bib plus this year, they gave you a reusable bag, which was really nice. The one thing I don't understand is why you need to look up your bib number before going to the expo. What happened to putting the packets in alphabetical order? Run: Eh. Decent number of water stops, but they only served water (no electrolyte?!?!). Route is boring and uncreative. Why must every race in Tulsa be on Riverside? Post race festivities: Okay, after running 9.3 miles in the heat, I would like more than a bottle of water and half a banana. What happened to the bagels and croissants like last year? Gatorade?! Powerade!? You're getting cheap, Tulsa Run. This year they also had booths that would engrave your time onto your medal for $10. There were also the usual OU PT students giving out "massages" to runners, which was nice. Medal: The medal, I will admit, is really nice..... Good quality, good size, and the middle spins!
