My wife did this tour a couple years ago and highly recommended it, but I wasn't especially interested because I had also gone to school here and figured I knew enough about Hyde Park already. However, she insisted that it would be worth our while and so I agreed to climb on the bus. And it was the absolutely right decision, because the tour was excellent. In fact, it wasn't just a tour of Hyde Park. It included the surrounding neighborhoods of Washington Park, Kenwood, Jackson Park, and Woodlawn. Since this was a UChicago sponsored event much of the information related to the University's investment and involvement in the area. Our tour guide and founder of Chicago Detours, Amanda, is herself a graduate of UChicago and thus she had some additional insight into the relationship with the community. Though the 75-minute tour felt a little slow-going at times, there was much to learn about the vibrant but sometimes troubled history of the area. Amanda has tremendous knowledge and the excursion was both fascinating and entertaining. I can imagine that Chicago Detours would have equally interesting tours of other neighborhoods in this diverse city.

Been riding the blue lines for decades since Jefferson Park was the end of the line before they…read moreextended it out to O'Hare Airport. 1) Use to drive from Mr Prospect to Golf Mill pick up the 270 bus & take it to Jefferson Park & take it downtown. 2). Years later I lived in Oak Park by Harrison & Lyman & took the Blue Line from Austin Ave to downtown 3). Next I lived in Old Irving & picked up the Blue line from Irving Park to downtown 4). Finally I moved to Forest Glen where I have been for over 20 years. When I go downtown I drive to either the Old Irving or Montrose stop & take it downtown. Old Blue has served me for longer than I care to admit. It's fairly reliable of course it doesn't compare the transit systems in New York, Paris or Tokyo but it gets you from point A & somewhere in proximity to point B. I have relied on Old Blue for many years & has been there for me most of the time.

took this tour of northside ghosty locations yesterday with family and friends. this was the…read moresecond time we've gone on one of the tours having taken the southside tour last year. our guide, dale kascmarek is extremely knowledgeable and a great driver. he came to pick eleven of us up in a passenger van which is wired with speakers all the way in the back so he can be heard by everyone on his mic as he explained the locations and stories behind them. the tour usually take roughly four hours but last night took a little longer because we got stuck in city traffic a couple of times. he took us to the st valentine's day massacre site, graceland cemetery, rosehill cemetery robinson woods and other locations, each time giving us a full explanation of each place and the stories behind them. there were several spots where we could get out of the van and take pictures which was very cool. dale welcomes all questions and is friendly and accommodating. the only down side is that with the traffic and all, it did get a little long but that wasn't his fault. saturday night in the city is like that. i'd recommend the south side tour over the north side one though only because there are more "get off the bus" locations and just more locations in general. we're going again next year :) .

All you have to do is show up at the office or asked to get picked up anywhere down Kimball from the office location all the way to Addison and BAM! - mini getaway. They have trips like every 2 hours 7 days a week but I'd call for details. The ride to and from the casino is when I feel like I get a lot of mental work done. So if you feel like just getting away, this is perfect. Make sure you don't lose the boarding pass for your return trip or else you'll have to pay $30 just to get home. Also! They do special group trips if you have a party of 20 or more people where the bus can pick you and your party up from one location and take you back home! If you want to plan something different for your birthday THIS IS IT. They have other offices too with different routes so I'd highly recommend even getting picked up around Wrigleyville, hitting up the casino, and going back there to party! Because...WHY NOT?!

Actually, the buses rattle pretty loudly and you worry all the way about whether or not they will make it, so I got very little "mental work done" on numerous trips. These buses are not nearly as nice as other lines like the Ram and the Phoenix, nor is their new driver, Chris who was quite mean to me on serveral occasions and who talks on his cell phone while driving - I know that is against the law for bus drivers, and it definately puts your safety at risk. I would take another bus line!

I really enjoyed this 5K Race! It started and ended at…read moreSoldier Field. There were people dressed up in Donut and Coffee Costumes! The participants were individuals, groups, and families. After the main 5K Race there was a Kid's Dash in which they also received their own medals. I like that parents pushed their children in strollers around the course which wound around behind The Field Museum and along Lake Michigan with views of Navy Pier, people fishing for perch, and then the loop continued back up behind The Field Museum to the grassy park behind The Chicago Bear's Stadium. There were donut and water pit stops through the 5K Course. The medals were Pink Donuts with Stan's Signature Logo. I liked that the 5K was a money raising opportunity to support Cal's Angels-a cancer supporter of children battling this disease and their families. Already, I am looking forward to next year's race! FYI-The Race was SOLD OUT!!!!

This was my 2nd year volunteering with Stan's Donut 5K race. I received an email a few days before…read morethe race in details for the volunteers to be there around 5:30 A.M to set up. I get there in time to check in and get my tee shirt and assigned duty. Only to stand around and be eating by mosquitos. Everyone was running around trying to get things organized but failed to allow some of the volunteers to help. I just went back to my car and waited until 6:30 and went back over to my station. Still No Donuts had arrived. So, me and a few other volunteers just walked around with no directions or duties to be filled. A few runners were beginning to check in and vendors were setting up stations. Finally around 7:15 here comes the donut truck and we were able to help with bringing the boxes over to the donut station. It's a nice race for a good cause but I just felt that the set up could of been better organized this year. I didn't wake up early to just stand around and do nothing and when the volunteers asked to lend a hand we were kind of brushed off. The details from the email didn't align up with the duties that were given to the volunteers I loved the fact that the runners did acknowledged the volunteers. After the runners had finished their race and came over to the donut station. Each runner said Thank you and We appreciate you coming out so early to support and help with this race. That's the only reason for my 3 star review the cause of this race and the love that was shown from the runners.
