Look at this monster! Mother's Day special for $12.99lb!!!

Who doesn't love Rouse's? Employees are so friendly and I enjoy just walking around. Yeah ok ok maybe a little grazing too. You may even catch me sneaking a few wine samples (more than once). Their seafood is better than Tony's I think. Hands down love this place. Huge international section, gluten free section etc etc and the butcher will talk to you all day! I Prefer buying local than Corp. Keep family run businesses afloat! Try the spicy wild boar sausage made by a local. Worth it.

Central doesn't have Rouses so I stop by when I am near. Anywho, the selection of wine and spirits is quite nice. I was asked to locate Glenlivet 18 and Google couldn't help. Stopped by bc I was near. Viola!

Love this Rouses butcher area

This Rouse's location is fantastic!!! Why aren't all Rouse's fantastic ? The produce department is amazing and everything looks fresh and appealing. The displays are fantastic. The butcher area is great they even have aged beef they sell whole or will also just cut you off a steak. The international department is the best I've seen anywhere in Louisiana. The wine selection is like walking into a winery with all the choice you could imagine. They have not just 1 or 2 isles of wine but many isles of wine. They also carry lots of beer choices as well. The bakery and deli area is also fantastic. They have little restaurant areas like bbq, Asian and a buffet area with lots of seating inside and outside seating. Then they have a beautiful selection of live plants, herbs, vegetables, hanging ferns and flower baskets as well as potted rose bushes. I love this Rouse's. Why can't this Rouse's be in Zachary instead of Juban Crossing because this one is fantastic and the Zachary Louisiana location SUCKS!

The andouille was so good! I would definitely bring some home if I could. The Cajun fried ribs were out of this world. They come with a dipping sauce and they are highly recommended! Super flavorful and crispy, no fat or grease. The pig mac was a Big Mac on steroids...so much more flavor and their special sauce and pickles were unbelievable. The pork patties were cooked perfectly and were very good. Great twist on the Big Mac...just way better! Ordered the unsweetened tea and there were endless refills with great service.

I got the Muffuletta (per amazing recommendation of the cashier at the front) which was a sandwich I had never tasted before. Also the vibe of this place was truly a butcher style location which was so cool. I travelled from Las Vegas to New Orleans and it was so cool to see the difference in the butchers and deli shops from back home. I wish I could have one of these every week! The olive spread as well as the sesame toasted bun mixed with the deli selection of meats, absolutely fantastic!

Because I don't want you to miss this little gem. Sure, you can find similar food along I-10 just about anywhere in Louisiana. So what makes this place stand out? The employees -- and some long-forgotten items you never thought you'd see again. Cracklins, pork AND chicken. Yes, I said chicken cracklins. A variety of boudin balls. And don't skip on what's in the frozen and refrigerated section either. Stop by if you can, and bring an ice chest. Oh, and please follow the speed limit! If you didn't get caught in Port Barre, you will definitely get caught in Krotz

With that being said, we live in Houston but had a cooler and ice packs with us so we took a chance and stocked up on some of their stuffed catfish and stuffed chicken breasts. We were able to keep it frozen until we arrived home. So far, everything we brought home that has been consumed has been delicious. Really good flavors in both the fish and chicken. We will definitely be back as we travel home through Louisiana. Bon appétit, y'all.

The pantry offerings are relatively slim, but good. I purchased some cherry jelly that specifically is meant to be paired with cheese. There is also a supply of local produce. I grabbed a couple of onions and garlic and was wowed by some huge, beautiful Brussels sprouts. The proprietor recommended I shave them and add olive oil, honey, lemon juice, and pecorino followed by a brief refrigeration for a unique, fresh salad. I did, and my guests went gaga over it. The star of the show is the meat offerings. I did not procure any on this visit, but will be back for a stunning filet or ribeye. There is seafood, too-scallops, salmon, and sushi-grade tuna amongst other things. I bought a single premade crabcake and pan fried it at home for dinner. The best crabcake I've had outside of Dickie Brennan's. I'm racing because they deserve it.

For the uninitiated: Tasso is fast-cured, seasoned, and smoked pork shoulder. It's used in stews and simmered foods, softening as it cooks, adding a delicious, unique flavor and bite that's typical of many Southern Louisiana (read: Cajun) dishes. Tasso's difficult to describe, but you'll know it when you taste it. I just received four 1-lb. packages of tasso, shipped from Bourgeois' smokehouse in Gray, LA via FedEx 2Day. The order arrived in good shape, and though the ice packs surrounding the meats had melted, the tasso was smoked (and so, fully-cooked) and it was vacuum-sealed. It went straight into my freezer, and it'll be fine. The cost to ship from Lafourche Parish to San Diego doubled the price of the product, from $7.24/lb to around $15, but I pay that much (or more) for quality steaks and seafood, here at home, and it was my choice to spend top-dollar for meat that I know, from experience, will make my gumbo, red beans, etc. taste better than I could otherwise make them. Kudos to the folks at Bourgeois Meat Market for offering a high-quality product, and for handling the purchase and shipping in a professional manner. I like visiting their shop when I'm in the area, but I LOVE that they don't make me get on a plane to eat what they're cookin'!
