The water in the sanctuary area is soooo blue. I couldn't believe my eyes. We walked along that part first, then walked past the hatchery. It was so cool to see the trout in different stages of life. Dogs aren't allowed to swim in the sanctuary or hatchery, and since we have a lab who's obsessed with the water, we kept walking to reach a spot where she could at least touch it. Lots of people were fishing, so we kept walking until we found a spot where she could splash around. As you can see from the photo, she had a wonderful time. We kept her leash on and I'd recommend others do the same. We didn't want her to get caught on a fishing line or scare any fish away that people were trying to catch. We paid $5 to get into the park as we were driving in, and we were able to pay with a credit card. There was plenty of parking even though it was the weekend. Definitely recommend for a day trip from the STL area!

You can grab tickets online or in person, and they have a really cute gift shop with fun little trinkets worth browsing before or after your tour. Our tour guide Lee was so amazing! He's been there for years and years and you can just tell. Great stories, super personable, the kind of guide that makes the whole experience way more memorable. We even spotted a bat hibernating which was such a cool unexpected moment! The cave itself is fascinating and I loved that it was great for all ages. Our group ranged from little kids to people in their 70s and everyone was into it with no problems. A few spots can get slightly slippery so just watch your step, but there are handrails throughout so nothing felt unsafe. Also found out they host events here too like a black light event and even concerts inside the cave which sounds incredibly cool. Definitely want to come back for one of those. Overall I was really impressed and would highly recommend adding this to your Missouri road trip list.

If you are of the camping and caravaning breed then you'll be happy to know there is a camp site right beside the beach, we just drove down for the day but the site looked clean and well catered for. Interestingly, perhaps 30 or 50 miles east on I-44 is a rest stop also in the median. Access to westbound traffic only. But, I think the speed limit on I-44 is 70mph and at that speed it feels just unnatural to slow down in the fast lane to exit the highway! Anyway, the roadside park doesn't have that concern since the speed limit is in the 40's. It is a nice space with large trees and picnic tables. There is no fence around it so not a good place to take small kids who like to run to the edge of things. Just a few miles west is historic Waynesville and Roubidoux Springs - both places worth visiting.

We decided to venture out to a really cool state park while we are staying near Lebanon. There is…read moreno admission fee and you can park right next to the castle if you are mobility challenge, but we parked at a lower level and hiked up. I'll paved walkway, not a bad walk at all. I added the picture of the story of the Kansas City businessman that decided to purchase 5000 acres and build a castle here back in the early 1900s. You can read the story on that particular photo. The ruins seem well maintained, you are not allowed to walk in them, but you can get pretty close and take photographs. There are also several viewing platforms around the area, which gives you some pretty cool views of lake of the Ozarks. They do have pit toilet Bathrooms available. Beautiful place and can highly recommend for a historical visit as well as spending some time in nature.

Okay, we are in Branson but a friend of mine recommended Fugitive Beach, and we drove two hours to…read moreit and it was absolutely worth it! We got there when they opened and had a cabana reservation which I highly recommend. Especially if you are going to stay all day like we did. It's so cool to swim in a quarry, it's something I've never gotten a chance to do especially growing up in San Diego. You can bring floats, noodles, basically anything to float around in. Now, if you want to jump off the cliffs, use the slides, and or use the obstacle course you will need to bring your life jacket or you can rent one there. Trust me, you will want to the obstacle course is really fun as well as the cliff jumping, and slides. We had a blast! We brought our own food and snacks and the cabana has a small grill for grilling. You cannot bring alcohol but you can buy at the bar. You also won't need a speaker because they have a speaker set up and the music was awesome! The staff were super helpful and friendly. This was truly a great time and would absolutely go back again.

My friend and I have gone to this pool several times this summer. The young men and women they have…read morehired to be their lifeguards truly take their job seriously. On one visit we witnessed a lifeguard during her break and on her own take a couple of bottles of water to an elderly gentleman waiting for his great grandchildren. It was very hot that day, it was not her job to do this but she did a try Hunan kindness. Today, we were in the pool and the group of lifeguards gave a little boy who is a regular at the pool a lifeguard t-shirt, and let him carry a lifeguard float around. The little guy just beamed with pride and happiness. Again they didn't have to do this, it wasn't in their job description, but they made a young boy very happy. He probably won't ever forget this day. You have an amazing group of young people working at your pool. You should be very proud!!
