The Honey Run Trail is one of the gems of the Lake Of The Ozarks State Park. The trail system comprises of three distinct areas, The High Land Flats and North and South Loops for about 12.7 miles. The Flats is an out and back, about 3 miles one way. This trail has a few medium rock features and several rock garden areas. The trail is gravel and rocks, which can really rattle your teeth. I prefer to ride from the Anderson Hollow Road parking lot, as it's up hill and it's nice to take it a little easy on the way back down.
The North Loop is about 4.5 miles that winds through the woods and has an occasional lake view. This trail is also gravel and some black dirt. There are a few small rock features that are fun to ride through. You will during this section. There is a fire road that can make you cry during early season.
The South Loop the shortest at about 2.75 miles. It is the flattest portion of trail and runs along with Honey Run Creek. It winds through the woods with some quick hairpin turns around creek beds. There is one wide creek crossing. It is usually dry. If you picked only one trail to enjoy, this section would be my pick.
There are no bathrooms or water. It is not easily handicap accessible. Word of warning: wear bug spray. The ticks are not a joke down here. I spray every time and don't usually have any issue.
Enjoy and ride on! read more
