Had the good fortune or mis-fortune depending on how you look at it to end up at Rothman for treatment of a complex fracture. Staff are warm and friendly from the front desk to the practitioners. Given the severity of my fracture they were transparent and upfront about time it would take to heal and were there supporting me with all I needed to be informed and involved in my care. I cannot thank them enough and was so happy with the care I received. Would highly recommend this practice for any orthopedic needs. read more

We loved the surgeon we previously had but outside of that every time we call the main line it is some incredible production to schedule an appointment. Horrible Experience - Do NOT ever seek medical treatment at Rothman Orthopedics. The quality of care is abysmal and you are literally risking your well-being. I had knee surgery scheduled at Rothman on March 10th, 2025. We arrived at my surgeon's office for a consultation on February 12th 2025, and the doctor did not remember who I was. He also began speaking about a DIFFERENT procedure than the one scheduled. Mind you, I had seen the doctor three times prior to this visit and I was scheduled for surgery in a month's time. These crooks also charged Aetna - my insurance carrier - $700 for an X-ray that I never had, and forced me to pay them $238 for said x-ray - even though they never took the x-ray. I ended up having the correct surgery at the Hospital For Special Surgery ("HSS") in NYC, and it was a COMPLETELY different experience. The level of professionalism and competency between Rothman and HSS is incalculable. One last thing. THERE IS NO WAY TO EVER REACH YOUR DOCTOR VIA PHONE. No one answers the phone at Rothman. We would spend an hour on the phone attempting to speak to a human-being. Moreover, during the four consultations that we had with this purported doctor, we were never able to speak to him for more than 9-minutes during a visit. During the last visit, he left the room after 3-minutes and never returned. Eventually, his lead nurse entered the room and said, "they were delaying the surgery by one month and we would be hearing from them." We then canceled the upcoming surgery and never returned. Unbelievably bad and unprofessional patient onboarding, customer service, patient care and follow up. I had inquired about transferring my son's care after he had elbow surgery. Rothman advertises a lot so I see their name a lot, and are in the area so I decided to reach out regarding a consultation for my son. After checking website and reviewing the different specialists, I called to schedule. The person I spoke with "Michelle" acted as if she was bothered by me calling. Maybe she was having a bad day, and I understand because we've all had them. Anyway, I asked about a certain Dr and she let me know he was not taking new patients. Fair enough, ok so please let me know who specializes in the injury my son has and who is taking new patients...I said I would be fine with any Dr at Rothman because I understood they had a good reputation. I was told to register a profile and provide information about his current care, procedures, X-rays etc. I did all of that electronically. I called back and she told me I would now have to fax the X-rays to her office. I found the request odd but continued to follow her instructions. I asked to whose attention I should make the fax to. She told me to nobody's attention, just fax them and someone would call me back to schedule.I went to staples and spent $56 to fax to number she provided. I stayed to make sure the the fax was transmitted successfully, which it was. I followed up and left messages and sent messages via the client portal with no reply. Fast forward 46 days, I get a call and voicemail telling me I need to call back so she could "close the case"?? I called back and let them know my experience. She said ok, fax them again. Yeah, I don't think so. If it's this disorganized and messy, then I would never trust the Rothman practice to care for my son. My contact was rude at times that made the whole awful experience worse. If the possibility to leave zero stars existed, I would be leaving zero stars. I had my hip replaced March 2022, and I'm in more pain than I was prior to surgery. After two years of experiencing excruciating hip, knee and pelvic floor pain, Dr. David Nazarian couldn't tell me why I was in this much pain so I went to his P.A. Ryan Fletcher. Ryan couldn't tell me why either. They said my hip replacement looked great. They also couldn't tell me why the very small meniscus tear in my knee that I've had for 30 years was bothering me like it had been ripped apart. After finding absolutely no answers I did the only thing I could do and I requested my medical charts from 1978 until current. What I discovered was this...On six different MRI Reports (since 2016) it had stated that I had a Müllerian Duct cyst in my midline, almost attached to my left. The actual source of ten years of pain. The cyst is pressing on my perennial nerve causing indescribable pain in my hip, knee, foot and it sends my entire pelvic floor into disruption (which includes constipation, urination problems and severe testicle pain). The stark realization I have come to at just 46 years old is this. Despite the fact that I have a rare disease that only 200 people in the world share (CLOVES Syndrome), Dr. David Nazarian did a hip replacement that I did not need. Had he slowed down, asked more questions, taken a look at any of the previous hip MRIs, and there were five of them, he would have seen the cyst. He did not clearly and thoughtfully read my medical reports that were all available to him. I went to see Nazarian last week and Rothman sure has a sense of humor asking me to fill out a survey. Two things occurred at the Appt. 1. Dr. Nazarian told me had no idea what a Mullerian Duct cyst was however after some discussion, he tried to claim that it was something that a urologist should have taken care of previously (Or in the future). When I told Nazarian I did not need the hip replacement, he stared at me blankly and said nothing. He admitted that he did not see the cyst on my MRIs claiming that they weren't available to him. 2. Dr. Nazarian took ZERO responsibility for this MAJOR MEDICAL OVERSIGHT. He was defensive about almost everything I brought up. Now as it stands, I'm desperately trying to find a doctor to perform this very rare surgery and I am completely lost. Müllerian Duct cysts are generally found in women and my Urologist has never seen it. I have begun reading research papers from medical students who have dealt with this issue and have had no luck in contacting anyone. If there's anyone out there who knows anything about Müllerian Duct issues, please be in touch with me if you can. Absolutely Horrible Experience - AGAIN This is my second visit here and it's even worse than the first. I had a 10:20 AM appointment, got here EARLY at 9:30, and it's now 10:50--and I still haven't seen a doctor. What is the point of an appointment if you're going to make people wait over an hour? On top of the miserable wait time, the pricing here is outrageous. They charged $700 just for the doctor to look at my knee. I paid $50 for x-rays of both knees, And then they have the nerve to recommend some "treatment" that costs over $3000 and doesn't even work. This place is a complete scam. They clearly don't care about patients--just money. Avoid this place at all costs unless you enjoy being overcharged, disrespected, and left waiting forever for subpar care. Never coming back. I am beside myself with this organization. Over a year ago I went to them in regards to frozen shoulder, a very painful and challenging disorder to deal with. I was advised by another office that surgery may be my best option and I came to Rothman simply for a second opinion. Getting an appointment was challenging so I was frustrated from the beginning. When I finally got in to see the doctor, Stephen Cohen, he was rude, dismissive and actually said so what do you want from me? Why are you here? I explained the situation a second time and repeated that I wanted a second opinion. He rudely stated, "Yes, surgery may be you best option, I'm not sure what more you want to hear?" What kind of professional speaks this way to patients??? I was billed $900 for this maybe 10 minute, unhelpful and disturbing visit! After insurance paid most of this, I owed close to $300 which I was not billed to me until OVER A YEAR LATER. I called the office to discuss this charge and express my extreme anger for being billed one year later for rude and dismissive treatment. I was told they would look into it and call me back. I received a second bill but did not pay as I was still waiting to hear back. Not only did no one call me back, but I just got a bill from collections!!! They ignored me completely and went straight to collections. So they don't bill me for a year and after two months go to collections???? I would never recommend this company to anyone. Three years after knee replacement and I feel like an invalid. The surgeon only sees you briefly prior to numerous visits to discuss whether or not to replace your knee . Most advice and suggestions are left up to the physician assistant. This group is verbose but I came for surgical advice, not conversation. I've discussed my surgery with other people and doctors. Follow up is subpar and I find it difficult to walk or do basic housework. My wife didn't expect to have to take care of me. I'm dreadfully depressed. My primary care physician and another orthopedist have strongly recommended that I go to another hospital and see competent orthopedic specialists and surgeons. This experience has been medically and mentally challenging. In addition, to a new surgical practice, I need a psychiatrist. Dare, I say I regret having the surgery as I wasn't an invalid and suffering anxiety and depression prior to Rothman. Do your research and homework before using them. Shoulder replacement surgery last week. No antibiotics or rehab exercises were prescribed upon discharge-had to contact Dr. when I left hospital to ask for both. Went today for 10-day post-op visit, was informed when I arrived that Dr. was out of town and that this appointment had been cancelled 4 months ago--ridiculous. The PA told me to rip off the gel coat over my stitches, and that the next available appointment was in 2 weeks. Instead of a 10-day post-op appointment, it will be 25 days (which I had to beg for). Terrible from start to finish. Dr. "B" did not even examine me. They (B & his fellow) kept referring to a R elbow fracture. Going into the appointment- Rothman was repeatedly told that I had a closed fracture of the head of my left humerus. Dr. B spent (if I am giving him a lot of grace) 3 minutes with me. No introduction, No examination, No eye contact, No referencing x-rays (that Thank Goodness I brought them from an Urgent Care. Can you imagine the price Rothman would have charged??). This guy, "B" was barely alert....think Catatonic. This human, "B" said that he could not treat me & I had to meet with their shoulder specialist. Went to see a podiatrist at Rothman in Bryn Mawr, Pa. Never again will I go to Rothman. The experience was as good as nothing. The visit latest no more than 5 minutes. The few things that the podiatrist said were all wrong went I went to see someone else at another place. The attitude at Rothman was a I don't care one. The staff there had the same attitude. BEWARE!!! At this point I am convinced this business is a scam. I have been trying to get in touch with someone in their billing department for months. I went into their offices after a finger injury and explicitly asked what I would be charged/would owe and was told I would be responsible for nothing more than my $40 copay which was paid the day of service. However, about a month later I received a bill from their company for almost $900. I have called countless times to either be put on hold for LITERAL hours (I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP - AND HAVE FURTHERMORE NEVER GOTTEN THROUGH TO A HUMAN BEING) or have the line disconnect. As a former Medical Malpractice Attorney, I can tell you in a word, "NO." Don't go there. All that has been said about the employees and their attitudes is true and worse. Avoid the walk-in clinic at Rothman Ortho in King of Prussia. The cortisone injection I received there from the physician's assistant was very painful and led to bruising and to sleeplessness due to strong pain the night after the injection. Now my knee hurts way more than it did before the injection. I have received many cortisone injections as treatment for arthritis in my knees and never had such a poor outcome before. read more

My family has been patients with Rothman for nearly 20 years. Surgeries, rehabilitation, treatment. Always had good care and outcomes. Unfortunately, in the past 2 to 3 years they have overreached their ability to provide patient contact in a compassionate manner. Everything is online oriented and frankly confusing. I was scheduled for a follow up appointment in Manahawkin. While on another phone call, I received a message that my appointment needed to be moved up, could I come in earlier and to contact them asap. Which I did only to be informed that the appointment had been cancelled. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Human contact seems to be forgotten the pursuit of the all might dollar. Kiosks to check in while the reception staff snacks and chats. Automated depersonalized messages. Almost impossible automated phone cues and online juggernauts to make appointments. All this while patients are in pain and many times elderly and unfamiliar with technology. On my last office visit -- and it will be my last visit to Rothman -- I actually had to help another patient with the reception kiosks sign in. She was in tears. Shame on you. read more

The Rothman Institute is a sprawling orthopedic practice located downtown at 9th & Chestnut St. on the 5th floor. You check in on the kiosk at the front desk. I was initially confused because the signage on how to check in was clear but I couldn't locate the kiosk until one of the ladies behind the counter snarkily pointed it out as if I should have known. I could have done without her attitude however, after realizing that I had completely forgotten the fact that I'd lost my debit card and would have a co-pay I asked if they could bill me and they did accommodate that request and I appreciated it. Six months ago I dropped something insanely heavy on my left foot. It was painful for awhile but I powered through it until recently that pain returned along with some swelling and obvious damage to a toe nail. The technician gave me a quick x-ray and then Dr. Wellens explained I had actually broken my toe. She also cleaned up the toe nail for me and gave me some instructions on caring for the toe since it's healing on its own and past the point of needing to be set. She examined both my pinkie toes that have some irregularities to them that can be corrected with surgery but I have to think more about that later. I also got a doctor's note to ease my work duties so score right there. If you are having any foot problems I highly recommend. read more

I am being treated for a fractured hand and have been in pain for over a month, my doctor doesn't care and told me that's the way it is. I was told to take an advil. I've been in pain for over five weeks swelling won't go down, they don't care you can't even get in touch with anyone there. Thank God for Nova Care physical therapy. BEWARE! I saw a doctor for my foot pain. She took all of 3 minutes with me and said I needed orthotics. I was told that insurance did not cover my orthotics and that it would be $450 out of pocket. I didn't have that at the time so I called back a month later to pay. Come to find out they billed my insurance and received payment therefore double billing for one service. I called starting in Feb for a refund and have not received anything back. Every time i call, I wait on hold for more than 10 minutes to get a recording that states they are busy and will call me back. When they call me back they tell me they are processing the refund that day. WELL I was told the same thing twice and here we are over 2 months later and no refund. Having sought treatment initially with a Rothman physician for what seemed to be Sciatica and being in excruciating pain throughout the week-end , I went to Rothman Orthopedic Urgent Care. I saw Ms Jennifer Ngo. The pain in my LEFT groin and leg was a 10 +. I was given an ex-ray of my RIGHT hip! For my pain, MS NGO , a Physician Assistant, suggested Ben-Gay along with tylenol and rest. A few days later I went to the Jefferson ER(which is part of Rothman) I again presented with 10+pain. A previous MRI suggested a CT scan be done. At the ER, tests suggested follow-up with an Orthopedist as fractures of my pelvis and sacrum were an issue. A Rothman intern approached me and told me NEVER consider surgery given his evaluation of my tests. Next I went to the recommended doctor, Barry Keneally (Rothman), hoping to get clarity of the CT scan. Never have I been treated so unprofessionally! No eye contact, while Dr. Keneally faced his computer. When asked to review and explain the Ct scan, he said basically "it is what it is!" and return in 3 weeks. Still in pain, I left . Six weeks later I am walking full weight baring and pain free having had major surgery at U of Penn Musculoskelatal Department by an amazing trauma physician. read more

15 years ago Dr. Alexander Vacarro did a spinal fusion on me L4, L5, the surgery was a success but over the years my spine shifted forward and now i needed another surgery due to extreme nerve pain! December 2023 , I'm 68 & had another spinal fusion by Dr I. David Kaye, with a cage inserted in my spine , I'm doing fantastic, walking 2 miles everyday, my back & posture is almost completely straight , I do take care of myself and I'm very cautious not to do too much lifting or stretching, it'll probably take about 9 months to completely heal! As I said I do take care of myself, watch my weight, eat healthy and exercise, just walking! But one thing is for sure I will always have back pain and I must take care of myself for the rest of my life! I have to say I'm am so grateful to Dr. Kaye for giving me my health back to be able to live a full life. For me this is almost a miracle! read more

Dr. Victor Hsu is an excellent spinal surgeon. He did a 3 level lumbar fusion on me. I also had one lumbar vertebrae eclipsing over another. He put that back in place. I have no idea how he was able to do that. He used robotics to do my surgery. I have 2 rods & six screws in my lumbar spine. I was looking at my post-op images on my portal. I called my husband over to look at them. I said to him, "Look at those big screws. If one gets loose, where will it go?" Hubby took a second look. He has been a general construction contractor for many years. Bolts decks to house, etc. He said to me quite bluntly, "Those screws aren't going anywhere." Dr. Hsu Is a really nice guy. He shows you your MRI & explains any problems. He is patient & thorough. The surgeons at Rothman are all very busy. Patients have to wait for appointments for new problems & surgery scheduling. But, when your surgery is successful, waiting is worth it. I also have cervical spinal issues. Dr. Hsu sent me to an excellent pain management specialist. I have had 2 epidurals for my neck. It takes some time to see how well they work. I have had 4 spinal surgeries at Rothman. I am always out of bed the next day & putting on my make-up. read more

I've only had one experience with Rothman, and it will be my last. They are a machine, grinding out patients like meat, and once operated on, you become a number, or perhaps a birthdate at best. Dr. Peter Sharkey performed a bilateral hip replacement on me in May of 2022 after saying I was young and healthy, and that I could withstand having both hips replaced at the same time- so yup, I did it! Go big or go home! I got through the surgery pretty well, and came home to recover. My first hint that Rothman lacks in so many ways, was that every single time I called with worries, or questions, or medication needs, I was sent into voicemail. Never did I get a human when I called. Once I listened to the four minute diatribe about all of her do's and don'ts in terms of message leaving, call backs and rules, (feeling like the "no soup for you" character in Seinfeld if I spoke too long or asked too much), and left my message, Kim (Sharkey's nurse) would eventually call me back. Always, without exception, she made me feel like I was disturbing her. After my first follow up visit, which was four weeks after my surgery, they never requested to see me again. Fast forward seven months, after a few uninvited visits to their office, several rounds of prednisone for ongoing inflammation, and 38 PT visits at $80 a visit, my hip pops out one night while swaying to music during an evening out with friends. After five hours in the ER, my hip relocated, (or reduced as they say), I call to make an appointment and am told I have to wait 6 days to see him, which sadly, did not surprise me. Once did I see him, he told me that he had no idea why this had happened, but if it happens three times, a do-over will be necessary. I left there shaking in my shoes as it popped out so easily, why wouldn't it again? Six weeks later, it happens again, same exact scenario, (swaying, I kid you not), but now I'm in the Caribbean. I come home, make an appointment, but alas, he can't see me for TEN days. Meantime, I meet with two other ortho's, two different practices, both who tell me that the angle at which the socket was put in was not within the correct range. When I asked Sharkey about that, "oh no, that's not it", but offered no explanation. Seems I had lost my mind, so I sat with his scheduler, Lynn, another peach of an employee in that office, scheduled surgery, again, and off I went. Later, when I found my mind, I cancelled my surgery with Rothman (without any questions as to "why" from them), and chose another surgeon, here in Delaware, to do the revision of my left hip. Never once did I hear from Sharkey, or Rothman, never once to this day. I'm five months out of my revision surgery, and my left hip feels fabulous, and I mean fabulous. The care I got from my new ortho practice was incredible. They actually answer the phone when I call, my surgeon speaks to me when I walk through to see his PA, AND his PA takes time with me to answer all of my questions, LIKE THEY SHOULD. Bad news is I'm back in PT, 3 days a week, at $80 a visit because my right hip (Sharkey's other hip) still causes me pain, right in the joint. The real kicker here is not that my hip didn't "take," (sh*t happens), but that no one from Rothman really cares about any of this. No one ever said sorry, or anything to try to make me feel better or hopeful. They just let me walk away, knowing that they did wrong, and never looked back. Pretty crappy way to do business, if you ask me. Lesson's learned: 1) Never do two hips at once- it's just too hard a recovery and you don't have a hip to favor, which is probably why my right hip STILL hurts, but who really knows? I live in DE and both orthopedic opinions that I received down here said absolutely no to doing both hips at once. 2) Rothman doesn't care, or at least in my case, they don't care. I had some major back pain while visiting Philly to check the renovation progress at my condo. A family member recommended Rothman. In 2016 he had a neck procedure done and his experience was good. I would add he went to a different location. I made my appointment online. I was trying to be seen before I had to board a plane back home. I thought seeing a Physician Assistant instead of an actual doctor would get me in faster and it did. I saw Kelli Regenbaum. The lady has no personality at all. We discussed me getting a MRI when I got back to my home state. She told me to find a place to go and let her know and she would send over the referral. Kelli gave me her card. I called her a few weeks later and left her a message with the place I wanted to go and have the MRI done. Kelli called me back and said " I'm not license in that state" B**** are you serious? I said we discussed me having the MRI done when I got back home, since I was only in town for a few days. She said " no we didn't " This woman is starting off her career as a liar. Since I'm in Philly often.I asked her where would she recommend I go in Philly for an MRI and she said " I DON'T KNOW" you mean to tell me lady you work at Rothman Orthopedics and you don't know where to refer someone for MRI? Had I read the reviews on YELP before I went here. I NEVER would have went to this dump. Btw she could have sent that referral out of state. My boyfriend tore his ACL, PCL, and LCL and Dr. Dodson performed surgery on him. He then deals with John for physical therapy. So far, everything has been 5 stars. From the patience to the explanations, both doctors have been great. They take their time asking my bf what issues he may be facing and adjust treatment plans according to his progress. My doctor is Dr. Faith Schick, DPM-Her and her staff are awesome-This is my second surgery (2 Separate issues) with her- Both surgeries went well -they were 1 year apart from each other. The doctor herself is the best made me feel very comfortable. She is a real down to earth individual. I hope not to ever have to have another surgery on my feet- however, if I do I hope she's around to do it. I definitely would insist on her to be my surgeon. read more

Lumbar surgery went okay, but Dr. Kepler won't sign off on my medical leave for work for the full time I was out, so now I have to pay back sick time and find a new job. I should have never chosen this doctor. read more

I went to Rothman as it is a part of Jefferson - my primary and I have the greatest doctors there from my GP and anyone she has recommended me to EXCEPT Rothman. I had a back issue which eventually required corrective surgery but first went to Rothman to begin to figure it out. I saw a PA who asked questions, did a rudimentary exam (all that was needed) and then stepped out to talk with a Dr. I waited and waited, apparently much longer than I knew (there was not clock in the room, it was filled halfway with boxes) so finally stuck my head out of the door to see what was up only to find that the place was semi dark and empty. They had gone home for the day! I was a little scared because I did not know if the elevators were working, but they were so I went down to the lobby and just about gave the security guard a heart attack when I emerged from the elevator. He asked me where I came from, I told him and he just shook his head. I had told the reception desk at Rothman about this because I didn't want to be left again and they were pretty much unconcerned, sort of blamed that on the PA - What kind of organization is this?? Dr. Kwok prescribed a wrist brace for me and had me escorted to the orthotics department, where they handed it to me for $50 charged to my credit card. It didn't work, constantly sliding off my wrist no matter how tight I made it. I went online only to find that I could have purchased the exact same device, same brand name, for under$4 from eBay or from Walmart for less than $14. Rothman won't accept returns even for items that don't work, so now I'm out $50 for a failed experiment. Dr Kwok put his own financial interests ahead of mine when he failed to suggest that I could purchase this item online for less than 10% of what they were about to charge me. read more
