That kind of shift is hard to put into words, but you know when something deep inside finally relaxes. I had no idea that there were so many talented you local youth (14-22) that are so creative and talented. I am still speechless from what I saw tonight at their Art Show. I'm not an artsy (pardon my lack for a better word) fartsy person, nor a collector but I do appreciate art for whatever it is to me and to the artist. I asked a young man by the door who were all the artists... are they local? I stood their gazing at the wall next to him and he said, "I did this" I honestly almost laughed and was in disbelief. Marcos Hidalgo's work blew me away so much that I posted some pics of his work and others on FB by the time I reached my car. By the time I started the engine there were a couple posts asking about the artwork from some friends. All these young folk have MAD TALENT! I noticed a lot of younger folk that I know locally and was so surprised and grateful that they have a nice outlet for their creativity. Youth Arts Collective is a non-profit organization and I look forward to donating money to them once the time is right (when I have money to donate). Honestly, if you or your child has the knack for art or just interested, I'd look into them. Tonight was their 11th Birthday Celebration but also their Opening Night from 5 to 9. Tomorrow (1/29/11) they have an Art Show from 1 to 4pm. I highly suggest you stop in and see what the buzz is about. The place was packed with great energy, a nice vibe and a lot of excitement. I do wish they had more Padron selections like some 1926 and not just 1964. Yesterday, I smoked My Father: Le Bijou 1922. This was a bold cigar wrapped in a dark habana wrapper. The fillers and binders were from Nicaragua which is my favorite. For $26, I thought this was a good price especially since it also won #1 cigar by Cigar Aficionado in 2015. The standing tables are fine but I think it would be a great idea to also have some comfy leather sofas around for a bit of a more relaxing feel. They have a whiskey & wine bar which is a great addition. There are also a few TV screens for news and sports. If you're also looking for some awesome whiskey bottles to purchase, they have some pretty amazing selections from Angel's Envy, Larceny, to even Bardstown. I love it here and it's definitely a go-to for me whenever I'm staying in town. I'll be back again!

From the moment you begin planning until the last guest leaves the dance floor, Rhett and his family are incredibly hands-on, responsive, and genuinely invested in making your event a success. It's truly a family affair, with Rhett, his wife, son, and daughter all pitching in to make everything feel seamless. One of the things that sets Wave Street Studios apart is how effortlessly the space transforms throughout the evening. Our guests enjoyed dinner, then the room transitioned beautifully into a lively dance floor without missing a beat. The lighting, technology, and overall atmosphere create a magical experience that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. Rhett also coordinated seamlessly with one of their preferred catering partners, Fire on Wheels Pizza, who not only served fantastic food but even created a custom signature mocktail just for our event. It was such a thoughtful touch that our guests loved. Hosting a nonprofit gala requires countless moving pieces, and having a venue partner who anticipates needs, solves problems before they arise, and truly cares is invaluable. I was surprised to find a case with some antique jewelry, and a gold locket caught my eye. I asked to inspect it closer, and the lady working said, "That's $100. I can take it out, but I'll have to move everything to get to it. Are you actually thinking about buying?" Why else would I ask to see it? I was appalled, first there were only two paintings she had to move. Second, it was marked at $30, but even if it was $100, so what? It's Monterey bay, do you think I can't afford it? I was honestly shocked by how rude she was. This is the second time someone remarked about my ability to afford something, both times I wasn't wearing a wig. (I have cancer, and my hair has fallen out, so I'm bald now.) Even if I was poor, or looked that way, I wouldn't have deserved being treated that way. My sister and I left the store. But that's not all! She chased us down the street, said it was the wrong price, and that it was only $30. To her credit, she offered to give me a discount. I was still confused: you're telling me that you wouldn't move all that stuff for a $100 sale? But you would for a (now with a discount) $15 sale? Now that you think I could afford it? I went to look at the locket, but at that point I just felt sick to my stomach and wanted to go home. I don't know if it was the owner, or if it was an employee, but I won't be coming back.

Looking at the mix of contemporary paintings and sculptures was a wonderful way to spend an hour. The cobblestone courtyard is inviting, vintage furnishings and garden decor mingle with large scale sculptures. The EDGE 2 is a small gallery in the courtyard, with additional eye candy. I was pleased to see work by S.C. Yuan, an abstract painter whose work has become legendary on the Monterey Peninsula.
