Lunch: - Choose from a soup, salad, meat, or fish course. (small/large portions for soups & salads) - One dessert option. Never disappointing. - Comes with tea/coffee. (choices include a cappuccino or cafe latte ... not only your typical brewed/drip coffee.) - Don't want to wait? Avoid the crowds and come after 12:30. (They're open until 15:00). Clarification: Soups & salads are Nothing like your boring watered-down chicken noodle soup (or whatever the equivalent is in Finland) and uninspired wilted greens. It's much more elevated than that. Think: celery soup with salmon tartare, goat cheese & cashew salad. I'm not a big salad person, but find myself diving into a bowl of crisp lettuce more often than not. And the portions are very generous. I'm usually good with a small soup/salad plus dessert. Which sets me back only 10-11€... such a bargain! If coming for dinner, make reservations!! The building has an old antique feel with lots of dark wood. Plenty of tables and booths spread across multiple rooms, it appears this place could hold a lot of people. It was mostly empty when we were here, but that was on a Monday evening. I imagine on the weekend it can get pretty busy with so much room for people. We ordered a ribs and a hamburger and they were huge portions. We could have easily ordered one meal and shared it. The burger was a pretty good standard burger with a big patty and lots of vegetable on it, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. The ribs were a big, lots of meat, and better than the burger. Neither was the best in its respective category, but both were satisfying and good. No complaints. They both came with potatoes that were like a cross between chips and fries. They were awesome! I have never had fries like this before. They were wide and flat, thinner than fries but thicker than chips so that they still had some soft potato inside but were nice and crispy at the same time. I would come back just for the fries, some of the best I have eaten. The beer was okay, but in the world of craft beer there is definitely room for improvement. The Kakolan Kalpea pale ale was decent but not as flavorful as I prefer. The Lehtori lager had a strange, bad taste and I really did not like it all. It tasted skunky as if it had gone bad or was old. The Vehnä wheat beer was the best I beer I drank here. It tasted like a traditional German hefeweizen with the banana and clove flavors clearly noticeable and was very enjoyable to drink. I would visit again for the wheat beer and fries.

Probably because of reflective ceiling panels. And half of the restaurant walls are sound-reflecting windows. But, the servers seem very attentive and quick. The chefs, in their t-shirts, baseball caps and aprons, are quite visible, working in the partially open kitchen, and assisting the servers with plate présentation. The chefs spent a lot of time in front of us, perfecting each dish with tweezers. Because, about a third of the presentations had a very meticulous, but specifically geometric, plating. Such as perfect circles of 40 circles, or teardrops, or ellipses. Personally, I encourage each Chef to execute and present their individual vision. But, maybe limit the number of plates that appear to be assembled with a protractor and compass. The scallop, cucumber and buttermilk dish was excellent, as was the 64th version (so far) of their signature "Fish Circle," of crab, whitefish, apple and beurre blanc. It's located on the riverbank and has a marvelous location and views. It's also very nice on the inside and the building has history, which our waiter didn't hesitate to share. On to the food. I always order the steak when at a place like this, but was torn today between the usual safe bet versus the Zander, which seemed delicious. With help from our waitress my brother and I settled on the red meat with red wine combo and my sisters on the fish and white wine. We ate ridiculously well and the presentation and service were top notch, although our wait times were also quite long (we had many apologies for that during the evening). Apparently there was something going on that night which was causing delays with our orders. I would say the food more than made up for it, but tonight my steak plate was a bit on the mild side. The meat was cooked perfectly and there was nothing really wrong with sides, but it was just missing that something. That something which makes you sigh happily while chewing. My safe bet felt suddenly a little too safe. The appetizers, desserts and the fish my sisters ordered all had that five-star quality which made this all the more baffling. Together with with the fact the wait times were stretching three hours, I've decided on four stars for the whole experience with strong suspicion that lacking the minor fumbles, nothing less than five would have been in order. But for a cohesive four-course menu, it might have been nice to have something else. There's more to Finnish food than salmon soup. Another thing: bread was a bit weird. The portions were small and they seemed to compensate with the biggest pieces of bread I've ever seen, which looked more like American white bread than like anything Finnish. That was rather bizarre and confusing. But, still delicious food, prepared at a very consistent high level, and it really takes a Finnish spin on New Nordic.
