Great experience at Rosso. We went for a family friends 60th. We were greeted on arrival and shown to our table. They had a lunch time offer on which was 2 courses for £14.95 and a bottle of wine between 2 for £9.95. Fantastic deal for a Saturday. I think this deal was on from 12-4pm. I ordered the soup to start which was parsnip with breaded muscles. This was served with bread and butter. For my main i chose breaded haddock with onions and olives. The waiter was very tentative constantly topping up our wine and checking we was all ok

I've been here a fair few times now but always for food. This time we went for cocktails only. We wanted to try the 5 @ 5 offer, so basically there are 5 cocktails on offer for £5 each from 5pm-7pm during the week. The current menu is inspired by box sets, so you have a coffee based Friends one, a dark and dangerous Sopranos one and various others. Good fun! and excellent value for money. We got the Sex and the City inspired Manolo Blanique (naturally) and the, I THINK, Gossip Girl inspired Glamorous. Both were pretty delicious but the slushy like yumminess of the Manolo Blanique cocktail won me over, I'm going back for more very soon! Glamorous was very sour so be warned. Think granny smith apples.. on steroids. The bar itself is very well stocked, the bar staff were smart and friendly. They provide you with complimentary fresh bar snacks which is a nice touch. The only downside is the décor, there is a wall full of pictures of celebrities that have visited Rosso.. I mean come on.. majority of them are footballers and WAGS. it's garish and doesn't scream elegance to me but hey, each to their own.

Here we go again, another day, another Italian restaurant. I love Italian food. The textures, the colours, the flavours, and I love a restaurant that can deliver all these things, in spades, without charging me a million pounds. Don't get me wrong, if the food is good I will happily pay through the nose, I just don't like paying through my nose for slop. Luckily, slop is not what Rosso's got. Housed in an old bank, Rosso is of grand proportions and grander food. The concept, of a restaurant-cum-bar, works well on weekends though it can be a little...flat during the week. The decor is truly decadent, which is what you want when you're out for a posh meal. The food is great, and the menu is incredibly varied. The starters are priced around £5-£7, and there really is something for everyone. I would recommend the beef carpaccio. The pasta dishes are good value, priced between £8.25-£14.50, and the portions are very generous. I had the penne al provolone, which is a vege dish, with some pancetta added, and it was lovely. I think they added a quid to the bill for my meaty addition, and I was really chuffed that they were so accomodating. The boyf, never one to economise, plumped for the lobster spaghetti, and pronounced it delicious. Next time we go back, I have my eye on their veal shin. The wine list isn't the longest, but it is broad in flavours and price. The prices are perfectly reasonable, starting at £14.95 for house wine (perfectly respectable). For red drinkers, I'd recommend the montepulciano, which is below the £20 mark and certainly hit the spot. The cocktail menu is pretty good, and I substituted dessert for a vaiiiiry nice passionfruit and vanilla bellini. They have a great selection of spirits, which seem pricey at around £8 inc mixer, but the spirits are served in 50ml measures as standard, which goes some way to lessening the blow. Plus, they serve Tanqueray 10, so shush up and sup up! Rosso is great for a romantic date, or a special occasion. Rubbish for big groups, I'd say, but then the bar can get quite lively, so perhaps OK for groups on weekends. It definitely gets a recommendation from me, and from the boyf, who really won't shut up about that friggin' lobster pasta...

Rosso is a new restaurant just opened. Its classy, stylish and very expensive! It has AMAZING food, and ridiculously good service. The room is really grand and very stylishly decorated with an abstract black and red colour scheme and huge retro photos of Italian film stars and sports figures adorning the walls. Owned by Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, Rosso is a rival to the well respected San Carlo on King Street. This means there are often rows of flash sports cars outside, which I'm sure have a direct impression on how many customers the place attracts. Whether the majority are enticed by the Jags and Ferraris or put off I can't quite work out. Although the restaurant is very good, the Bar concept doesn't work at all, as people tend to eat and leave. The bar is always empty, because it is obviously very hard to pull off classy restaurant and lively bar atmosphere all in the same room. Definitely worth going to!! I had the prawn and scallop pasta and it was ace.

Hands down the nicest place in Manchester. Best manager, Sasha, and Bartender Kevin , & Best whisky selection in UK possibly!

Without a doubt he greatest whisky and bourbon collection I have ever witnessed in a bar/restaurant. Their food was excellent but the bar was what captured my heart and soul! The extensive knowledge of the "rare" whiskers available by the centiliter was captivating to say the least. It was the gem of my whisky tasting experiences ever!!

Rosso, not worth the service charge! The first time I visited Rosso was Christmas 2013 and we ate the Christmas Lunch menu, which was FANTASTIC! At the time I went for the Tacchino for the main, which was pan fried turkey breast with a ballotine of turkey leg stuffed with roast sage onion and apricot stuffing, served with mash and pigs in blankets. It perfect! I had the Salmone in Vasetto con Erbe as a starter, which was fresh salmon with toast. Very nice! My girlfriend had a curried Risotto with prawns (Risotto e Gamberi Alla Orientale) for her starter, which was unbelievably awesome! I love risotto and wish I ordered this! The only critique at the time was that the dessert was a little poor: Trionfo di Dolce. It was only a set dessert with three bitesize portions of three main desserts: Panettone with vanilla hazelnut parfait, chocolate cestino gilled with mulled fruits and vanilla ice cream. However, it was worth it for the other food. My biggest gripe to this day with Rosso is the "service charge". I don't like the restaurant dictating to me the additional charge or tip. Especially when there are only three of us dining! The service should be included and if the waiter or waitress takes care of us, then I am happy to give a generous tip. And I would say I was a generous tipper when it comes down to great service! I also feel that from my two subsequent visits (November 2014 and April 2015) to Rosso, the service and food have deteriorated in quality. My visit in April, was for a friend's birthday. It was a Tuesday and we booked a table early evening. However, that wasn't necessary, as the restaurant was really quiet. So quiet in fact, the staff were setting up all the tables, bringing out trays of cutlery to distribute around the tables. This wasn't great to see when you had customers already in the restaurant, and quite noisy! The service was inattentive, and despite mentioning in the booking that it was a birthday, they didn't seem to care! On this latest visit, I ordered the Risotto al Salmone for the starter, which was "Arborio rice cooked with a white wine cream, peas, dill and smoked salmon". Although, the salmon seemed more poached than smoked. As I have mentioned, I LOVE risotto, and can cook a pretty awesome curried Haddock Risotto, and this starter was just ok, nice but nothing special. For my main, I ordered the Polpette, which was "baked veal meatballs stuffed with smoked provola, set with tender stem broccoli, chilli and cherry tomato". Now this was very nice! Very tasty meatballs and had a nice authentic Italian flavouring. This also was the same for the starter, which my girlfriend ordered: Bocconcini del Babbo, which was "buffalo mozzarella wrapped in basil leaf and speck (cured pork loin) flash fried and set with wild rocket, blush tomato and spiced onion chutney". The décor of the restaurant seems to rely on a wall of local celebrities or sportspersons photos who have visited. A little tacky, in my opinion. The general restaurant floor was crowded with tables, which became a little ridiculous when it was relatively empty, and I imagine would be difficult to manoeuvre around when busy. Other than that, the restaurant looked quite cool. With regret, I give this review a maximum three stars. I feel the restaurant is inconsistent with its service and food quality, and suspect the attraction is based on who the owner is and the fact that local celebrities are often spotted here.

In your hunt to find orgasmic good food in Manchester, rare few places has met my expectation and soothe my taste bud but this place has really won a special place in my heart and tummy for good. The service is good, food was above and beyond and the wine recommended went very well with the dishes we ordered. I went in and left the place extremely satisfied.... it's definitely a place I'll highly recommend anyone to go. The ambience is peaceful and calming... it's a great place to relax and unwind, go for a date or just sit down to enjoy a wonderful Italian meal. Love it!

I give props to them for their effort. They have a big cocktail menu so don't come here for just a glass of wine or beer... Nope, you're in the wrong bar for that! When we ordered our drinks, we found out that there was a 2 4 1 deal, so we ended up with one extra drink...score! We ended up ordering the zombie (it had fire so I thought it was cool) and three others I can't remember... Haha. All I remember is the drinks were strings, some were well mixed while others were eh it was ok... Just tasted like alcohol. Though the bar is cool, it does have a smelly funk to it so prepare to close your nose especially if the place is crowded...the drinks are cool, pretty creative but the art of making yummy cocktails is kinda lost because the proportion of the juices and alcohol isn't quite well done. Fun place to go to though if you don't care about that stuff!

Magical? Chemical?…read more The alchemist is not only a nice surrounding to sit in but the service and food are great and delicious. When we checked in and were asked if there were any allergies we made jokes about my husband's allergy to cinnamon - that we would not need to worry about out it before desert. We ordered a few items from the menu - which is a very delicious mix of classics with some twists (tempura fried fish and chips for example). Order was taken and a couple minutes later the manager came and said "I am sorry - but the sauce to the fish contains a bit of cinnamon" wow! We change the order of course and the manager came back to the table asking if we would be worried about cross termination. We have been not and everything went well after that. Great service. The food itself plays with the alchemist theme for example the chorizo meatballs come with a syringe to inject your own amount of cheese (what you think? Yes of course o injected the whole Syringe into the little delicious meatball duhh). The menu consist of a lot of small items which makes me so happy since I can have so many bites of different things and at the alchemist they are all worth it! And of course classics like burger, salads and sandwiches alongside their mains. The menu is not too big but literally has something for everyone. You have to try the crispy pork skins! After we had been told that the crispy fish contains cinnamon my husband learned they offer their "chicken in a basket" as a vegetarian version as well and that is what he got. Damn that is so good: A bed of chips (fries for our American friends) are surrounded by one of the best coleslaw I had in a long time (almost as good as Guy Fieri's if not even better) then slightly pan seared onions and peppers layer on top of the fries. Ready to be mixed in. Then of course a generous amount of chicken or in this case plant based chicken smothered in a sweet chili sauce. Not to forgot to mention that it came with an extra little bowl of dipping sauce. Delicious! We also had a mocktail which name I might not be allowed to recite here let's named it "virgin adult film star" what a perfect combination of fruit, creme and sweetness. Yummmmmm To end the night I had coffee and Choclate - any serving of coffee comes with a set of three pralines. What a way to end the night at the alchemist. I have visited the bar on 12th floor numerous times and have always been impressed, but this was the first time for dinner. Upon arrival, the hostess on the ground floor congratulated me on my new job! Excellent customer service and such an amazing, personal feel. She knew this from when the table was booked, but she didn't have to say anything. She did and it was amazing. Heading out of the lift into the restaurant we were greeted by a few more lovely hostesses. They welcomed us, took our coats and we were shown to our table. Walking through the restaurant, it has been very cleverly designed so that you walk past the kitchen first, giving you chance to see some of the dishes being prepared and sent out to their tables. I was SO excited. We ordered 2 full tasting menus. I ordered the drinks flight in addition and Neil C. went for the wine flight. The tables were neatly laid out and the seating was comfy - good job too, as we were sat there almost 3 hours. Our waiter arrived, carrying 2 glasses of Champagne. 'A gift from us. To congratulate you on your new job!' he said. :D *Laura beams* These guys are good. Throughout the evening our waiter was charming, knowledgeable, friendly and explained each dish in such minute detail that I can barely remember what I ate. All I have to say is that every one of the twelve courses I consumed was exquisite. Overall, it's obviously very expensive, but more than worth it. I'm already pushing for my next promotion so that Neil C. can take me back!!! ;)

This is just a review for the Lounge, because as my dad has not yet visited I haven't been to the…read morerestaurant (HA! what a cash surprise awaits him). Anyway, the Lounge is beautiful and a great place if you want to impress someone - it's on the 12th floor with excellent views over the city and there's a cosy outdoor area as well. The cocktail range is extensive and, unsurprisingly, a little pricier than elsewhere in town. One French 75 had a pretty major impact on my sobriety, however, so I'd say it's value for money as well as delicious. I'm also a fan of their cut glass crystal. The staff are very nice although can be a little slow to take your order/clear tables. Also beware the lift! It has a mind of its own. Update: the vesper here is excellent.
