My star rating is despite the fact that Rossi ice cream is delicious and cannot be faulted, it is in itself 5 stars but I cannot give 5 stars because of the following. Robbed is the only word that springs to mind. Stopping off here to buy one of their downsized 1 litre tubs of ice cream, which in itself is a crime, they used to be 2 litres. They've fiddled with the price but all in all it adds up to us the customer being ripped off to the tune of £4.50 for a litre tub as opposed to the not much more than that price for the 2 litres, certainly up until last year. Rip off. Worse to come, dear reader. At the till I decide to buy a couple of ice creams to go, so I opt for two 'one scoop' tubs coming in at about £1.75 each (average). I opt for one classic Rossi vanilla scoop and one banana scoop. The banana scoop was fair enough a couple of dollops giving a fair but not overly generous tub for the price. No, it was when it got to the classic vanilla that it all became totally unnecessary and frankly embarrassing. The tub is small, 4cms deep and 7cms across, tapered as they are. The girl behind the till presented me with this pathetic looking tub, not as per the banana one, ie dolloped in but, and I hesitate to tell you this, she had levelled it off with a knife, yes, you read it right, she had levelled it off with a knife. I have brought this small tub home and have managed to put in three desert spoons to fill it to the levelled off offering she gave me. I looked at this sad little tub and said 'what is that?' to which she proceeded to tell me that the banana one would look like that but because of the consistency of the ice cream it does not go into the corners of the (round) tub. Now I do not believe that I looked like I had just landed from an alien planet and was about to accept this drivel, but frankly a technical conversation would have been pointless at this stage. I have never seen such a tight fisted, pathetic portion of ice cream in a tub. Rossi, I am afraid have got too big for their boots now and have blatantly begun to drop standards of certainly presentation (no generous waft of a spatula to give a lovely big portion here) and worse still have begun to take advantage of their loyal customers by charging a lot for not very much at all. So for £3.50 I basically got 6 desert spoons of ice cream, for a quid more the litre tub now looks like a bargain! The utter naffness of levelling off a meagre tub of ice cream is cringe making at best, you should hang your heads in shame Rossi, disgraceful behaviour. read more
