The woman at the front desk is very nice and personable. I would recommend this place to friends and family.

Sheetz, Benner Pike, State College, PA…read more After a long night shift, I used the drive-through to order a bagel with cream cheese. In the dark, I could see the bagel was oddly wrapped, like shrink-wrap around the small looking sandwich? The first bite was shockingly tough, extremely dry and tasteless. The cream cheese was absorbed into the dried-out bread, there was no taste of cream cheese, I could not finish it. This was no over-sight. They were not busy. That sandwich has been exposed to the environment for days, and God knows what else. The Sheetz kitchen staff purposely served this disgusting object to me. Is Sheetz telling their kitchen staff to eliminate waste at all cost?

I had heard rumors of Sheetz locations without the gas station, but that's all they were for a…read morewhile. They were suppose to open one in Pittsburgh near the Pitt campus, but that has yet come to be. Since I was in State College and out walking the streets I figured I would find the mythical beast that I have heard of. My first attempt at finding it, I walked right past it. You see, growing up in a small town that had one of the original looking Sheetz out there, you automatically are looking for gas pumps and big, shining, humming lights in the parking lot. Not an urban looking cafe thing that this particular one is. Don't get me wrong, every so often when I get that craving for some Sheetz I really don't want to have to fight my way through a parking lot full of vehicles to get my food, I just want to be able to eat it before I get it home and it has already started to cool off a bit. My second attempt, armed with my handy dandy map on my phone, I still walked right past it. Yep, that's right, that was me that you saw do an about face while looking at my phone screen. The building blends in so well that I thought it was a coffee shop at first. Glad I looked up from my phone for a few seconds. Watch your step coming in here, with the grade of the street the stairs a bit weird, but there is also a ramp to get to the store. Once inside you find that it is longer than it is wider. Due to this, it feels much bigger than what you would imagine. This is like a huge convenience store, with some fast food. But then add in the fact that you can sit in house and enjoy it. Not just sit in house, but you can sit here and get some work done too, why, because it does come off like a coffee house as well. Don't want to sit inside, guess where, there's outside seating that overlooks the sidewalk. So take in that fresh air when you are shoving that MTO goodness down your throat. Customer service, at least to me, was top notch here. I did not have a bad interaction here. Everything was neat and clean, all the shelves were well stocked, and I really couldn't find a fault in this place. What I learned today is that Big Foot is real and that I encountered that. What I mean by that is that a Sheetz with no gas pumps exists, and it works. I really wish this concept takes off and these types of locations start popping up more often. Only that they not just pop up near college campuses would be great too. Kind of funny if you think about it. Sheetz started out kind of like this and then added the gas, now they are heading back towards that.

It also goes without saying that out this way in Penfield there are not exactly a lot available options for quick-easy grocery items. You basically have this place and a new-ish looking Dollar General right down the road on 255. Past that? Ten plus miles to Sheetz or Wal-Mart in DuBois? Half of the store has snacks and drink coolers and the other half is set up where you could sit and eat from their small restaurant/grill. They also had signs up everywhere about them converting part of the store into a beer cave. Up this way, that will be a big seller. I was looking for firewood (which they have an abundance of outside in front of the store) since the stuff the park was selling was wet and didn't burn nice at all plus some charcoal which this place does not carry (no biggie as the aforementioned Dollar General has a large Kingsford display as soon as you walk in the front door). If you're at Parker Dam, this place isn't too far from the cabins at about five miles and with it being open 24/7 + having gas it really is a convenient place to stop if you're in the area.
