I booked the flexible rate which included breakfast and there was free cancellation up to 3 days before arrival. Very important for flexibility especially when the weather can be unpredictable.
Check-in began at 3PM and I was a little confused where to go since there wasn't really a front desk. It's the cash register slightly to the left as soon as you walk in the front door. The rooms are pretty cozy and each one has their own private bathroom. But like any other housing in Switzerland, there was no AC and no window screens. I wanted to open the windows but there were just so many insects outside...it just wasn't an option for me.
Dinner is optional and begins after the majority of hikers leave the area. They shut down the indoor dining areas to begin setting up for the people staying overnight. If you brought your own food, you can do that instead to save some money. But I wanted a cooked meal after a long day of hiking and ordered some delicious veal and rosti. Breakfast was also included with my reservation and it was a pretty basic with fruits, juice, bread, and yogurt.
After dinner, you can walk around the area as the sun sets. The temperature really starts dropping and the rooms have some blankets you can wrap up in. If you listen carefully, you can hear cow bells in the distance and I could even hear some music coming from the towns by the lake.
One thing that I didn't like was the amount of flies and there wasn't really any effort to contain them. Like doors were left wide open, breakfast wasn't really covered, no screens on windows, etc. If not for that, I would've really loved the stay here.
