I was in the market to try on a Grand Seiko spring drive watch, and a billboard I saw in my area…read moreled me to the Boccardos in Scranton. They have a wide (5+ brands) selection with many in luxury status, and these brands range from 2K to 18k range. My Experience: I found the store well-planned and laid out. The staff, including at least two generations of Boccardos, were present, and 1/3 greeted me as the others were busy. They left me alone to peruse the store, then advanced to assist me when they saw I was ready for attention; they approached me for what type of watch I was in the market. I was dressed in jeans and a leather jacket and treated like a customer interested in an excellent wrist piece, the same as in Chicago, where I was last month at the Omega, Tudor, and Breitling boutiques. The Watch: Though they did not have what I was looking for, they had a Zebra, a Seiko-Prospex LX, for a STEAL! You can not beat a watch that blurs the line and sticks it to the Rolex GMT more than MY new Seiko-Spring Drive Lx, GMT, zaratsu polished titanium Batman. If you want a couple of amateur horologists to banter, this is the watch, and it pairs well with an aged Japanese whisky. The word Seiko and luxury puts a sour taste in the mouth of those pursuing luxury, but the guts in this watch fall short of none. A true engineering marvel. With my fan-boy love for this watch, it has a well-established position in my collection. They have a fantastic display of Longines, Breitling, Oris, Luminox, Bulova, and other watches that fit all budgets. I was pleasantly surprised and will return when the itch needs scratching. This is a decent business, with quality products and great staff interested in their products, at least the watches. As we discussed, I agree with not servicing or dealing with "grey" watches with all the fakes. I would not want to be ripped off by a random fake AP, Rolex, or Omega until these watch-producing companies stand by their product if certified. If they turn you away, it's the right thing to do in their interest, and it's business. Stores like this are relationships, and you have to work on them.

The best jewelry store in the area, hands down. Elva, the business owner, has made Valentine's a…read morestaple in the NEPA area and has been in business for years - she knows her jewelry and it's obvious by her returning clientele, many whom she is on a first name basis. What you'll get from visiting Valentine's is not only a wide selection of fashion jewelry including the latest trends (aka Alex and Ani) all the way up to fine and unique jewelry from top designers, but they also have the widest selection of engagement rings and wedding bands in the area. So many different styles and cuts all simplified by one of their knowledgeable staff members assisting you and only you. A few of my friends have gotten their engagement rings from here and they all came back raving at how personalized their visit was and how much one-on-one attention they received. For a lot of them, they basically went in clueless besides a cut or style that their girlfriend's told them they liked but then left feeling like a pro with a newly-found confidence in their decision. I think having that kind of special care almost calmed their nerves once the big day came around to actually pop the question. When you support a local business you are almost always guaranteed this kind of personal experience all around. I know Valentine's offers jewelry cleaning (complimentary, usually) as well as watch and jewelry repair and maintenance. It's nice to see a locally owned staple in this area continue their legacy by delivering exceptional customer service and quality jewelry with a staff that's more than willing to help you and answer any of your lingering questions. If you are considering your own engagement or even just want to put the feelers out there, come to Valentine's. I promise you won't regret it.
