This is certainly the cheapest place for cards that I can find at the moment. You can quite often get cards there for 2 or 3 euro, as well as wrapping paper and gift bags which are also reasonably priced. They have quite a selection of cards and usually have one to meet any various card-buying needs I have. Their toy selection is always great value, although I wouldn't go there looking for something specific, rather if you're looking for a little gift on the cheap you'd certainly find something serviceable here. The also stock a mishmash of household goods like glasses, frames and cleaning products which are usually exceptionally cheap, although there is no consistency of what they have in stock. Good for a rummage though!

They also have a good breakfast/lunch deal, croissant+tea/coffee for €1.80, scone with butter and jam+tea/coffee for €2 and a free coffee/tea with any sandwich. Obviously my internal map of the city solidified about 10 years ago and anything new since then seems strange. This spar is newish, but not so new to excuse my constant forgetting that it's there. It's actually a really handy spot as there isn't much else on this road other than bus stops so it's a great place to pick up something you need on the way to your bus. It's also a pretty big store so they have an array of items from the usual newsagent stuff to groceries and wine. Although I do think their grocery selection could be bigger considering the size of the store - it's not really a good place to get something for dinner.

Think yummy cheeses, packaged pasta, jarred treats and fresh sausages. What's more, this shop is just the tip of a much larger cultural iceberg. Up front, the local events board by the till is a great place to find out about Cezch and Slovak bands coming to town. Online, there's discussion boards and articles written for local Slovaks on their adopted country, local events and more. The location on Arran Quay makes visiting a bit more of a trek -jump off the LUAS at Smithfield, head to the Quays and walk back towards Wolfe Tone Quay. If you've missed the opening hours there's always the online shop which offers even more of the stock in store.

Basically it's a good little newsagent with a pretty good selection of magazines and papers and of course confectionery and beverages. Down the back they also have a number of grocery items which are pretty handy if you run out late at night. They also tend to stock stationary as well. Prices are obviously more expensive the supermarkets but not too bad as these kinds of places go.

Well, they still sell them here - and lots more sweets too. This is a really cute shop that makes you feel like you've gone back in time when you go in. Definitely worth a visit for the candy alone! The owners are always friendly and ask you how you've been. At different parts of the day you'll meet the wife, husband, and their sons behind the counter. One time I was having trouble with my DVD player and the husband actually offered a great deal of advice and told me to come back in to him if his suggestions didn't work! They've got everything you could imagine and I even found marshmallows there once that I couldn't find in Dunnes or Tesco. Some of the food in there is a bit dated as Ciara pointed out. One time I bought a bag of Dorito's ony to bring them home to find out that the bag had been opened and they were stale. Another time my flatmate went to buy milk and all sell by dates had passed the week before. So if you decided to fight against the corporate giants and support this shop, as I suggest you do, it might be best to stick to non-perishables!

Ye can't beat your local shop can ya…read more Yes Tesco may be cheaper and yes their milk may very well be delivered every morning, but hey, milk lasts aaaages now, and when it's just the odd 'bit&piece', the price isn't sooo important either. What is important is the banter. "Grand day today isn't it?", "Ah jaysus the country's gone to the dogs", "Did you see your one who just walked by?", "I remember back in 1967..." Come to this shop, you'll have banter coming outa your ears. And you'll be dying for that loaf of kinda-fresh bread to run out so you can get your next fix! (If you're on a vow of silence and do just want to pick something up real quick, you should go in just as school's finished - he'll be waaay to busy sorting out kids with sweets for major chats.) You should also find anything you realistically need on a local basis here - all types of sweets, some fresh pastries in the chiller, your standard groceries like milk, eggs, butter, cereal, pot noodles, and a good selection of papers and magazines. There's so many practical buys like the birthday book where you can keep record of everyone's special day or the blank recipe book where you can list everyone's famous dishes. There are racks and racks of cards for every occasion like the one that congratulates you for turning 25. Who thought 25 was such a milestone? There's also school supplies such as notebooks, pens, markers, post-its and agendas. The shop also sells the Filofax brand which is considered to be the creme de la creme of personal organizers. The best thing about Paperchase is that it makes all these day-to-day items exciting, colourful and fun.
