This is certainly the cheapest place for cards that I can find at the moment. You can quite often get cards there for 2 or 3 euro, as well as wrapping paper and gift bags which are also reasonably priced. They have quite a selection of cards and usually have one to meet any various card-buying needs I have. Their toy selection is always great value, although I wouldn't go there looking for something specific, rather if you're looking for a little gift on the cheap you'd certainly find something serviceable here. The also stock a mishmash of household goods like glasses, frames and cleaning products which are usually exceptionally cheap, although there is no consistency of what they have in stock. Good for a rummage though!

Its audience would definitely be the wealthier of the Irish folk and is bought by every hairdresser in the country, as clients love to have a look and 'see who's in it this month.' It's complete fluff - you wont be finding any hard hitting articles in it - but if you're happy looking at 'celebs' posing with champers in their hand at the latest book launch, private members club or horse racing meet, then you wont want to miss it.

Think of S&P as a printed Bebo for Ireland's upper classes…read more Sure, this slick glossy is an excellent reference for style and trends seen only here, and the empire is expanding with Living and Wedding editions... but those society pages seem to get the most attention. I think it's got something to do with the fact that most of S&P's readership appear in those party snaps. There Snochta, Osin and Fiacra are captured in all their style-making glory, grinning for the camera and raising their champers. How very... very. Spot a group of girls flipping through the latest issue and at least one of them will probably be in there somewhere.

Whether it be drinks, sweets, crisps to satisfy or you need some practical stuff like magazines, books, stationary supplies, greeting cards, wrapping paper, etc. Also as a newsagents they stock smokes, cigars plus national lottery ticket sales. Why 5 stars for a newsagents? I often take my niece and nephew overnight and the following morning if they've been good, whilst out and about we always finish up here and they pick out something from the little toy/gift area (wins me some awesome auntie points), the staff are always so friendly with the kids and patient. The kids like to pay the man by themselves and I love that they never rush the kids, they often comment on their toy and share a smile so this, ye know what, is just so hard to come by these days. Just another shop in our small village working hard to keep up community spirit :-)

Like the classics section in the basement, where you can track down pretty much anything. They also sell schoolbooks there....whoo! Moving on swiftly, the ground floor is crammed with all the latest best sellers as well as any magazines you could possibly want. Even my own personal favorite "Air Rifle Monthly".

Nutley News is a great newspaper shop in Merrion Shopping Centre. It feels like a little…read morenewsagents that you might have in the country, so it's unusual to feel like a local when you pick up your paper in Dublin. It has a really good selection of cards and gift accessories and it also does some presents for kids. It has stationary and books and magazines. Think yummy cheeses, packaged pasta, jarred treats and fresh sausages. What's more, this shop is just the tip of a much larger cultural iceberg. Up front, the local events board by the till is a great place to find out about Cezch and Slovak bands coming to town. Online, there's discussion boards and articles written for local Slovaks on their adopted country, local events and more. The location on Arran Quay makes visiting a bit more of a trek -jump off the LUAS at Smithfield, head to the Quays and walk back towards Wolfe Tone Quay. If you've missed the opening hours there's always the online shop which offers even more of the stock in store.

A pleasant little…read morenewsagent with a nice range of magz and newspapers, candy and soft-drinks: all the essentials needed for a sit-down at a nearby bench with coffee in one hand, the news in the other and a piece of chocolate as comfort. They also have a good breakfast/lunch deal, croissant+tea/coffee for €1.80, scone with butter and jam+tea/coffee for €2 and a free coffee/tea with any sandwich. It's no Italian espresso or French pastry, but we can't spoil ourselves with those treats every single day, can we?

Thankfully, Subway have come along and taken the issue out of their hands. That's how much extra space there was, enough for a whole restaurant to cohabit comfortably. It does seem as though Subway are wearing the pants now they've moved in together. The giant pink 'No.8' sign is relegated to one window and now it declares 'Subway' over the door. We told you he was a good-for-nothing, chauvinist-pig, No. 8, but you wouldn't listen would you?

Obviously my internal map of the city solidified about 10 years ago and anything new since then seems strange. This spar is newish, but not so new to excuse my constant forgetting that it's there. It's actually a really handy spot as there isn't much else on this road other than bus stops so it's a great place to pick up something you need on the way to your bus. It's also a pretty big store so they have an array of items from the usual newsagent stuff to groceries and wine. Although I do think their grocery selection could be bigger considering the size of the store - it's not really a good place to get something for dinner.
