So when my wife suggested we make this our final stop before leaving town, I was just kind of along for the ride. It turns out, the ride was amazing. I was visiting NYC a few months earlier and went to a place that was wildly considered to have the best bagels in the city. They were perfectly fine but not really remarkable. But GBC served the kind of bagels we were still thinking about the next day. I think it was the softness that really separated them. Said softness was easier to detect from the snickerdoodle bagels we ordered with strawberry and honey butter cream cheese. Both were no doubt 5-stars. But for my "main course" was the Pelican Island, which was a hodgepodge of deliciousness all crammed betwixt two blueberry bagels. I really enjoyed it, but if I returned for a second visit, I would order something else only because there were like ten other things I wanted to try. By the way, I also enjoyed stealing a few bites of my wife's ham, egg and cheese bagel. Earlier I said "if I returned for a second visit", and I'd like to correct the record. We will 100% be returning for a second visit. We might even go as far as a visit here being an excuse for why we need to come back to Galveston a few months from now.

Galveston Bagel Company has a huge assortment of fresh bagels if you can think of it, they probably have it. We visited on a Monday morning and even though the line was long it moved quickly. The aroma of freshly baked bagels meet you as soon as you walk through the door and is so inviting. We ordered the Pesto in Paradise (one of their summer specialty bagels), the Chopped Brisket Panini, and a Blueberry Bagel with Cream Cheese. Every single item was amazing! They were filled with meat, eggs, fresh vegetables, and flavorful condiments. The bagels were hot, soft, and incredibly fresh, with every bite tasting better than the last. My only regret is not ordering another breakfast bagel to take on the road. The shop offers a few indoor seats along with outdoor seating, which is a nice option if the weather is good. On the day we visited it was raining and gloomy and the patio was still full. The only downside to our visit was the rude male employee at the front counter. Thankfully, the female cashier who helped us was sweet, welcoming, and friendly, which helped make the overall experience a great one. I would absolutely recommend Galveston Bagel Company again and again. It's definitely worth the stop if you're in Galveston! ---- They also have a coffee shop in the inside of the bagel shop you should give a try I give them five stars across the board. Edward Duffin handled our check-in and made everything easy. He has a very warm, friendly personality and immediately made us feel at home. Throughout the stay, he was always helpful, always had a kind word, and never seemed too busy to answer a question or just chat for a minute. That kind of thing really does make a difference. We ate at The Fancy both nights, and the restaurant definitely deserves the name. The food was outstanding. Paula was our server both evenings and she was fantastic. We weren't quite sure what we wanted, so we asked her for recommendations both nights. She knew the menu very well, and everything she suggested was right on point. She was attentive without hovering, which I always appreciate. Seyma, the restaurant manager, also made our stay extra special. It was my wife's birthday, and somehow she knew. I'm still not sure how, but she went out of her way to make the evening feel special for her. She also helped us out twice with our dinner plans. The first evening, we didn't have a reservation and she was still able to get us seated. The second night, we did have a reservation but needed to push the time back, and again she was able to accommodate us. Both times she handled it with a smile and never made us feel like we were causing a problem. We even had the chance to talk with the General Manager, Jorin, for a few minutes. That stood out to me because you really don't see that very often. A GM taking the time to actually talk with guests says a lot about the way a hotel is run. I spent about 15 years working in hotels myself, so I probably notice some things that other guests might not think much about. I know how hard it is to have good service across an entire property, and that was one of the things that impressed me most here. It wasn't just the front desk or the restaurant. From The Fancy to the rooftop bar, the lobby bar, and everyone we dealt with in between, the staff was professional, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable. I had seen a few comments about the beds being on the firmer side, but personally, I liked the mattress. I'd much rather have a supportive bed than one of those old hotel mattresses with a permanent dip in the middle where you feel like you're trying to sleep in a mud pit. What I liked most about Hotel Lucine is that it feels stylish without being stuffy or pretentious. It has a relaxed atmosphere, great food, and most importantly, a really good team of people. A big thank you to Edward Duffin, Paula, Seyma, Jorin, and everyone else who helped make our stay such a good one. We were very impressed, and we will absolutely be back. Five stars from us.

On the second day, the gentleman server did not know whether the Mickey Mouse pancake should have the cinnamon bun toppings on it (you know,...because kids might start bouncing off of the ceiling), or sprinkles and whipped cream. One time for drinks and another time for breakfast and drinks. I had a piña colada smoothie the first time. It was good. Nice and smooth tasting. Everyone else ordered coffee. They all loved them. When trying a new restaurant, I rely heavily on customer reviews to help make my decision. So, on Saturday, August 1, after a long day of shopping, my family and I decided to give Doc Holliday's a try for an early dinner. We knew it would be busy since it was one of the last weekends of summer before school started, so we expected a crowd. Despite the restaurant being packed, our service was friendly and surprisingly quick, which I definitely appreciated. I had visited Doc Holliday's before and really enjoyed my meal, so I was looking forward to going back. Unfortunately, this visit was a completely different experience when it came to the food. I recommended the baby back ribs to my niece because I remembered how much my boyfriend raved about them on a previous visit. Unfortunately, the ribs she received were extremely tough. She couldn't cut them, much less eat them. I had also loved the roasted Brussels sprouts during my previous visit, so I ordered them again. This time, they were very disappointing. They didn't appear to be roasted at all and seemed more like they had been boiled, with very little to no seasoning, and then covered in balsamic glaze. The rest of my family had similar complaints about their meals. Overall, the food seemed to be lacking the seasoning and flavor we expected. What made it especially disappointing was that this was not at all my experience during my first visit. I understand that restaurants can have an off night, especially when they are extremely busy, so I'm not someone who normally rushes to leave a negative review. However, when several people in our party have similar complaints, I feel it's worth sharing. Unfortunately, this experience was enough that my family has officially banned me from choosing a new restaurant for a while. I really hope this was simply an off night because I genuinely enjoyed my first experience at Doc Holliday's and would hate for someone else to have the same experience we had this time.
