Very difficult time working with Kenneth. We found him to be extremely obnoxious, short tempered and arrogant. He doesn't give you all the information about a property, even when asked and told us to ignore potential major issues. When following up, he blamed us for not inquiring. I connected with Mary Palos of Rose Realty to assist with my move from Chicago to the Phoenix area. I had a one week trip to the area scheduled for work and needed to find a house to rent during that trip, since I wouldn't have another opportunity to be in Arizona before my move. I first spoke to Mary about a month before my trip and she was extremely helpful and put me on her schedule for that week, blocking off the whole day on Wednesday to show me houses. I informed her of my family situation and the fact that my wife had just given birth to our first child and I would be traveling by myself with a list of must-haves and nice-to-haves in order to find the perfect house. Within the following weeks leading up to my visit, I emailed Mary a few times and only received one response letting me know she'd write me a more detailed response later, which never happened. I arrived in Arizona on a Monday, two days before my scheduled meeting with Mary, and would return to Chicago on Friday. Having not heard from Mary in some time, I called her upon my arrival. She seemed scattered and asked me to go over my wants and needs for a home again. She also pushed our appointment back to Thursday rather than Wednesday, making me quite nervous since I would be leaving the next day, but I went with it because she was still very nice on the phone and assured me she would find me the perfect house that day. She told me she would send me MLS listings to check out by Wednesday and that she would let me know when and where to meet her by Wednesday afternoon. By 3:00 Wednesday afternoon, I had not heard from her nor had I received any MLS listings. I called her and her husband answered the phone. I left a message with him to have her call me. He asked about my wife and I told him, just like I had told Mary a month earlier, that my wife was back in Chicago with my newborn daughter, since she had just given birth. She hadn't called me back by 6pm, so I called again and got her voicemail and left her a message. By now I was extremely nervous and was looking for alternatives, not convinced Mary would be any help to me what-so-ever. This ultimately proved wise as Mary's next communication with me would be so jaw-droppingly unprofessional that I wouldn't have worked with her even if she had followed through on what she said she would do. At 10:25pm (after I had gone to bed for the evening, so I didn't receive it until the next morning), she sent me the following email: "My week went completely "unexpected!" Can you go to my website www.marypalos.com and pull up residential rentals. I am concerned about showing you homes without [your wife]. Women do make the ultimate decision. Also, I was wondering if you can fax your application and your 1040's (or W-2's) pay stubs, prior to meeting you at [fax number]. I need to see them for myself, as well. Just to be frank, I do not meet protential clients (especially male clients) for the first time without their significant other. It is a safety concern that realtors take and my husband cannot be with me tomorrow (he was going to be with me...as always) but personal and private emergency took place today and he cannot break the appointment. PLEASE go to my website again, pull up the rentals you are interested in and if you do find the ones you are interested in, and if you have to call the listing realtor and they would be happy to open the door. A little advise: rental listers don't usually want to work with another realtor ... because their concern for the landlord is priority and they prefer to write the contract themselves. We do the same at ROSE REALTY and we don't allow the tenant's agent to write the contract. I hope you can understand my postion. I do apologize! If [your wife] was here, even with this emergency I would have taken at least 2 - 3 hours to show homes." I was and still am outraged at the unprofessional, sexist, and offensive behavior her email displayed. She wanted me to fax personal info with no intention of working with me, she insinuated that working with me without my wife was somehow dangerous for her (forget that it was dangerous for me to hop in a car with a stranger in an area I don't know; also forget that couples can be just as dangerous as a man by himself--Bonnie & Clyde ring any bells??), and she implied that I can't make a decision without my wife being present! Be warned single men, since you don't have a woman to make your decision for you, you can't possibly choose a house to live in! Any other potential clients of Mary and/or Rose Realty: This is the kind of unprofessional and offensive behavior you can expect to encounter. Mary totally screwed me over and I hope she doesn't get the chance to do the same to anyone else. My recommendation: DO NOT WORK WITH MARY PALOS OR ROSE REALTY! read more
