She has been cared for by Tonya Phillips, who has worked closely with the nurse's aid at the facility. Tonya has faithfully checked in with us each week to update us on her condition. We were recently notified by the facility that they could no longer care for her because of the severity of a wound she had, and Traditions stepped up their care of her to every day, and were an assistance in finding a new location for her. Not only did Marlena suggest a new facility, but also arranged for her transfer from one facility to another. Ruth, the Social Worker, arranged a tele-conference between the facility, hospice, and us so we could accomplish the move. It truly takes a special type of person to be a hospice nurse and administrator...Tonya, Marlena, and Ruth were such people for our sister in law and us.

However, after taking the tour with Emma and seeing the facility, the cleanliness and the amount staff & a private room, It was hard to say no. Emma was very kind and very professional and really helped with my decision to put my mother in their facility. Emma alsowent out of her way to make sure my Mother's stay was comfortable! But the truth of the matter is, the staff is very professional, and my mother was there for a couple weeks and they were all very attentive to her needs & very kind! By the end of the day, they had found a wonderful aide who my curmudgeonly father has warmed right up to and who was there waiting for him when he got home the next day. You will be delighted with their services. They check on their aides often, are always available, and are very flexible in terms of unusual hours or requests that you may have.

My wife passed away in May after receiving hospice care from Wings Over Virginia. Throughout her time in hospice, the care, compassion, and support provided by their staff were exceptional. My wife was a nurse, and on many occasions she commented on how pleased she was with the professionalism, kindness, and attentiveness of the nurses, aides, and other staff members who cared for her. Whenever supplies, medications, or medical equipment were needed, they were provided promptly. Medications were delivered directly to our home, and the hospice team worked diligently to keep her comfortable. We also understood the limitations of the Medicare hospice benefit, which does not provide full-time custodial care. Family members and close friends worked together to provide day-to-day care, with valuable support and guidance from the hospice team. I am deeply grateful for the care Wings Over Virginia provided to my wife and our family during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Based on our experience, I would not hesitate to recommend them.

The nurses they send are nice enough, but completely ineffectual and possibly incompetent. They couldn't provide the correct equipment and tortured my dad trying to insert the wrong sized equipment over a period of days before ordering the correct size. He was too sick by the time it finally arrived to use it. They do not provide comfort medications via IVs, nor IMs (intra-muscular). Although they may prescribe oral meds, my father ended up slooooowly drowning to death, painfully, and horribly- all the while conscious and aware- for days. There was no foresight that at some point he would not be able to ingest the medications. In my dad's last hours, my mom begged and pleaded with Wings Over Virginia to help change her dying husband's bedsheets because she could not lift him to do it herself. They flat out told her that was not part of her services and did not come to help her. Most unforgivable, was their inability to provide the comfortable, dignified death they promise. No one's family deserves to be treated like this and NO ONE deserves to die like this.

Recently my Stepfather was here on hospice. He has been sick since May and in and out of…read morehospitals and rehabs. This was the third SNF he was in. The other two were clean, but the staff was neglectful at best. The nurses, Tomeka and Rhonda and the CNA Terry were all wonderful. They were attentive and kept him comfortable in his last moments. The place is clean and I always noted how good it smelled when I went to visit. I and my family are truly thankful.
