My son is in 5th grade and has been here since K…read more I would love nothing more to pull my son out of this school and bring him into homeschooling. I don't want him to run around all day with a mask. That's in all LAUSD or most LA-based schools. Nothing personal to this school. You can't get away from it, whether you agree or disagree. But there's a bit of hypocrisy. A few days ago, I was working nearby and I picked my son up after school. When I got there, I didn't know where to go so I walked towards the staff office. There was a staff member on her phone outside (maskless). I knocked on an open door and Principal Toni comes out of her office (maskless indoors). She points me in the right direction and I knock on a second door. A big bearded TA watching a handful of kids opens the door, greets me and proceeds to tell me to put my mask on. I'm literally outside in the open and staff are walking around in their offices and the school grounds maskless. Meanwhile, the children in school are forced to wear their masks indoors & outdoors, at all times, lest they get shamed for being dirty! I kindly ask the TA, "why do I need my mask when the principal is in her office without one?" Again, I'm outdoors; not walking in. I can't emphasize that enough. He says "I have no control over what the staff does." So, basically, they treat our children like the little serfs they are. Do what we say, not what we do. I wonder how often these staff members are amongst themselves maskless. I do it all the time, but on that same token, I don't force my children to wear one. Hypocrites. Principal Toni, you say you care about what parents want, then treat our children fairly. If you're going to force a mask on them for 8 hours a day, then keep yours on, too!

The families that attend Wise have similar values and goals for their children and bring diversity and warmth to the community with their cultural backgrounds. The administration has been extremely supportive during the pandemic, with a flexible and balanced approach to ensure as normal as possible of an elementary school experience for the kids. The head of school communicates with parents on a weekly basis to ensure transparency as well as to accept feedback from the community. Wise is a leader amongst other schools, tuned-in with the needs of like-minded families and operating from a place of reason. I know our children will leave Wise with a strong sense of self and confidence as kind young adults armed both academically and socially to handle whatever lies ahead.

I love this school and community and feel beyond blessed to be apart of it as do my children. We actually left for a short bit because I live next to a public school. We ran back as quickly as we could there is just no comparison to private school verses public on so many levels but the one I appreciate the most is my kids are thriving at Wise because the entire staff loves what they do from the front security to the lovely girls in the front office. This is a very special community and school where everyone is happy and living their best lives.
