I've had nothing but great experiences at Roscoe Books! There are many lovely local bookstores in Chicago, but this one has become my home base. I pretty much always have a book on order from them at any given time and they're always speedy and communicative. Every time I've placed an order for a book I've gotten a response within an hour that it was on its way and a time frame in which to expect it. (And I'm not talking an automated response, but an actual typed response from a human being!) There have been times when my book has somehow miraculously arrived within 24-48 hours of ordering! The only time a book has ever taken longer than expected to arrive and when I called to ask why they informed me that it had arrived damaged and they opted to order in a fresh copy for me. As a lifelong comic book collector, I've been conditioned to be a condition freak when it comes to my books and I'm so glad to know that instead of being put in an awkward position of coming in to pick up an order and seeing it's not in good condition and being anxious about saying anything that they went this route instead. Amazon could NEVER. If I ever move to a different neighborhood for whatever reason, I'd be happy to go out of my way to continue supporting Roscoe Books after so many stress-free, friendly experiences there. read more

Popped in here over the weekend. They have a large fiction and children's selection. I wasn't a huge fan of the fiction but if you're a Colleen Hoover fan this place might be for you. I did find a book of short stories that I'm looking forward to. It was pretty busy and you can tell they have a lot of regulars. You can register to receive points that get you discounts which is always appreciated. Price points are pretty standard for a bookstore. read more

This is a cute store. Well stocked with a nice variety of books from just about every genre. I swung by because the owner of The Last Chapter Bookshop down the street had mentioned they had a great children's section, and she wasn't wrong. For a shop this size, their selection of books for children of all ages was pretty extensive. I left with a couple of books for my daughter's growing library, which are too advanced for her at this time but will be there when we're ready. A cute touch is that there was a couple benches in the middle of the shop. There's also a beautiful mural by the children's section. The shop has a couple book clubs. The Classics in Brief book club makes me feel both seen and attacked simultaneously: "These are the books you SHOULD have read... but didn't." They're right, these are the high school books that I didn't read and now feel like I should. Maybe I'll read the Waldpole that's on deck for October and even if I can't go to the meeting, will be a bit more cultured. (But if you can get to the meeting, there's wine, so... go.) read more

A cute little book store. It has a pretty good selection of fiction including science fiction and thrillers. They have a larger kids section than I have seen in most book stores. The staff was very knowledgeable and I overheard them answering questions to multiple patrons with different interest. They accept Apple Pay and it's comparable to target book prices! Definitely worth supporting a local business. read more

A great local gem in the heart of Roscoe Village. I typically order my books through Amazon; however wanted to start supporting local instead. I ordered a book online and prepaid (I already knew what I wanted to read next!) and received confirmation for pick up. Be aware that they might not have what you order in stock- and may have to wait a few days if they need to order it. What I thought was really cool was the book I purchased was actually signed by the author! I wasn't expecting that so it was a nice surprise. The store is very cute, welcoming and has a large selection of all genres. The staff was friendly as well. I am excited to come back to browse. read more

Went here for the first time last week. I was greeted when I walked in. I asked them if they had a certain book, and they didn't, but they offered to order it for me! My book was ready for pickup a week later just like they said. The shop is cute and has a good selection. The staff was friendly during both of my visits. So wonderful to have a bookstore staffed with knowledgable staff. I had questions about 2 specific books today when I entered RoscoeBooks and within seconds, the books were in my hand. The selection is broad in the categories that interest me: children's books, mysteries, fiction, local writers and books of seasonal interest. Loved that I found local author Barbara Mahany's, "The Stillness of Winter: Sacred Blessings of the Season" to pick up for the perfect Christmas gift. An absolute treasure. The staff is welcoming and attentive, and the shop itself is gorgeous-- the back area for children is just magical. My favorite aspect by far, though, are the Staff Recommendation cards-- thoughtful, detailed write-ups from avid book fans that have directed me to many of my new favorite books. I look forward to being able to go inside and browse away the hours, but am thrilled that I can continue to order from them, get reccos (check out their Instagram for the latest!) and swing by for curbside pick-up. read more

I was surprised a book store was popping up on this stretch of Roscoe, but I love books, so I was perfectly happy to see it. I stopped in finally and it was such a cute store! Nicely organized, really friendly staff and a very wide selection of books including a very well appointed kids section but also cards and other fun stuff. Definitely worth a stop in!! read more

This is a small book store, but is worth the visit for the sake of the book recommendations they have on cards on the shelves. They have a great selection, but what they don't have they won't order for you unless you pay shipping. In the days of Amazon Prime this isn't likely to help them. read more

Live in the neighborhood. I was going to buy a book online cause most places listed at $35, but the retail price is $55. Thought, well it doesn't hurt to walk-in and ask if RoscoeBooks price matches. Went straight to the counter - the lady was reading a book. I said, "Hi" she looked at me dazed and confused and with glossy eyes. I asked, "Do you price match?" She 100% looked at me shocked and confused that I was asking this question, she replied, "oh, I don't know that means." But with a weird pretentious and rude tone. "Oh, you know price-matching, like prices from other stores." The lady found her self in a state of utterly confusion. Silence for a few seconds. She replied quietly and sharply with her glossy eyes, "No, we don't" she lit up a grimly smile and forces an end to the conversation. "Ok, thanks" Promptly existed the store and wondered why would I bother support this store in the future when I can have pleasant experience from my computer. The irony. . . read more

This is exactly what Roscoe Village (and every neighborhood in Chicago) needs. Like most independent bookstores, RoscoeBooks is welcomingly quaint and well-staffed with knowledgable and helpful book lovers. But what sets RoscoeBooks apart is the way that they somehow condense the variety of titles that you might find at a big-box bookstore into a jewel-box setting. The result is an extremely accessible, user-friendly neighborhood bookstore. They do such a good job presenting hot/new titles from such a diverse collection of genres that you can't walk 10 feet without grabbing three or four books. This is also the ideal place for gift buying because not only is the inventory incredibly diverse, but they also do a great job highlighting popular titles and providing staff recommendations. RoscoeBooks also focuses heavily on children's books, and the owner is a new mother herself who helped me pick out some gems for my nieces and nephews. Oh, they also have a HUGE selection of greeting cards (holiday, birthday, etc.)--those really hip (read: dirty) cards, not just your run of the mill Hallmark stuff--and it's always handy to have a reliable card resource nearby.
