The AV Wall is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., and it is a mobile Vietnam war memorial that can be easily viewed by residents within Southern California. Check out their website at www.avwall.org. It is only displayed a small number of times each year, and display locations can be found on their website. There is also an option to donate to this worthy cause through their website. In observance of Veterans Day this year, I chose to visit the AV Wall at Westpark Elementary School as my way of showing kindness, admiration and respect for our Veterans. In my opinion, nothing is more honorable than a person willing to serve their country for the benefit of all those within it. While visiting, I met some kind individuals who were volunteers for this display, all of whom have served their country. I enjoyed just standing there while listening to their experiences, some fascinating and some tragic, with the magnificence of this awesome memorial as a background. If you have the ability to check out this tribute, please do so. This school district is much less interested in their students and much more interested in…read moremaintaining an increase in funding. There is poor communication between their transportation departments and each school. They are under investigation (AGAIN) for mismanaged funding and now they are having their hands held by state officials who oversee spending habits. An elementary principal was removed due to multiple sexual harassment charges from other office personnel. Teachers are 60/40 by my experience. I have 5 children in the district. We have had amazing teachers and horrible ones. Teachers and Para Educators are not a problem...they try (some don't but that is every district). We have been on both sides of the bullying coin. My kids have dished it out and received it. Every time...the schools barely communicate. I don't hear about the behavior until it is found through other means than a phone call from the school. We had a vape removed from our oldest child and we were not informed. I found out MONTHS later. What school removes an illegal substance and doesn't inform parents...the highschool in this district! I am an active parent. I participate in everything that I can and welcome information that will improve my child's performance in both academics and life. At home, I do my part and I inform the school of my concerns. However, when I ship my children to this districts school, I cannot expect the same communication in return. Sports are unlikely to receive funding for transportation because of piss poor money management. The district is poorly managed all around. What is most unfortunate is that Rosamond lies in an area where other districts are an unlikely option for most families. If you do have an option...don't consider SKUSD!
