When my colleague and I arrived, they check our coats and there is a no hat policy. The restaurant has a warm and cozy atmosphere. The wait staff is nice and friendly. We were seated on a bench around a fireplace with no table, along with other patrons. You eat with a tray on your lap. The menu is simple - a variety of appetizers, couple of soups, a section for fish, and a section for steak and spare ribs. They also had a wine menu. We both ordered the spare ribs - him with a side of potato and me with a side of vegetables. The food arrived pretty quickly. The portions were large. The spare ribs were nicely sauced, fall off the bones tender, and absolutely delicious. The potatoes and vegetables tasted just as good. Prices were very reasonable. Will definitely return when in Amsterdam!

Four people ended up not being able to make it, and our party of 10 was seated together. The server was quite friendly and took drink orders immediately upon us being seated. He put those in while we looked at the menu. He answered questions about the menu and offered to refill our drinks. The spare ribs were excellent. The meat fell off the bone. The roasted vegetables were a nice mix and seasoned well. We were offered dessert when everyone was finished with dinner. We were well attended to without feeling rushed.

The guy who greeted me when I went inside the restaurant was very friendly. I said in about 6 different ways to him that I wanted to order something for take out, 'afhalen', 'meenemen', and so on, and he said 'alles mag' or 'everything is possible'. So I gave him my order, and he told me to sit down and be 'rustig', and asked me all sorts of questions about where I'm from, where do I live, do I have a husband, a child, what do I do for work, etc. He introduced himself, shook my hand, and was super friendly but eventually he went back to setting up the delicious-looking buffet that would be available in a few hours when they opened late due to it being Ramadan. So far, so good. Then some guy brought me a basket of bread, and a bowl of ranch sauce, and I thought this was strange, but oh so delicious, so fine I'll go with it. Then the friendly guy brought me a plate with my food on it, even though I ordered it to go! I said I ordered it to go and he said I should sit and stay awhile. Every feminist bone in my body was protesting that this man decided he knew better than me what I wanted, but the bread and ranch sauce were really good so I stayed. As for my meal, other reviewers are right, the meat was of good quality. Overall the sauce and bread and meat and veggies made a nice combination, so it was much nicer than getting a doner kebab. But it was more than twice the price of a fancy doner kebab. Friendly guy asked me if I wanted something to drink, which I figured would be free, since he was making me eat there, but then he charged me for the tea when I paid for my meal! That kind of pissed me off that I paid another 2 euros for a drink I didn't need if I just got my food to go like I asked. The real trouble came when I was done eating. I could only finish half of my meal, so I went up to the friendly guy and asked if I could have the rest packed up to go. Other people had come in after me and left with food to go, so I knew it was possible to get take out there. There were about 4 people waiting for food to go when I made my request to get my leftovers wrapped up. I have no idea why I had such a hard time getting my food to go, when others didn't. Friendly guy told the not-so-bright woman busing tables to wrap up my food, and she took the food away. I paid and was waiting and waiting, and my wrapped up leftovers never appeared. Then I asked the guy again, and he said he'd ask someone, and I asked the dim bulb who cleared the table and she started complaining 'you can't have take away, you ate here' and when I said 'yes but I ordered it for take away, and I saw him tell you that you should put it in a box' she just repeated over and over again 'but you ate here. you cannot take away'. Ugh. Eventually not-so-friendly guy located my food in the kitchen, and wrapped it up for me in a box. I have no idea if it was messed with in any way, or already sitting in a pile of dirty dishes with other stuff on top of it or anything, but it looked like my food when I got it home so I guess it was ok. This experience really skeeved me out, so I'm not sure I'll come back soon, at least not alone. Maybe with my husband and child. The food was good, their buffet looked delicious, and they were advertising an excellent and inexpensive breakfast buffet available on the weekends, but I would rather not have to deal with all this nonsense again if I can avoid it, so returning is not a high priority for me.

Great ambiance, incredible views, and a solid overall experience. Service in Europe is . . . different. Not bad, just not what I'm used to, so I try not to let that impact things too much. One thing I do want to call out: my daughter's friend has a severe allergy to seafood, nuts, and kiwi, and the staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating. That wasn't our experience everywhere in Europe, so it definitely stood out and was appreciated. We went simple with two steaks: the "Mrs. Porter" and a bone-in ribeye. Mrs. Porter needed a little more seasoning, but the ribeye was . Sides? Honestly don't even remember them . . . which probably says enough. The highlight might've been the "Mr. Fox" dessert. They bring out this chocolate fox head, pour liquid nitrogen into it, and crack it open tableside. Super cool presentation. Dessert itself was good, not amazing . . . but I'd order it again just for the show. End of the day: great ambiance, great views, good food, and a fun experience. I'll definitely be back.

The drink prices on the other hand are outrageous. 36 euro for the smallest martini I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, it tasted great, but still. Paid about 82 euro for two martinis and a non alcoholic drink. Probably gonna steer clear for the rest of our trip. There are much better and more affordable options outside the hotel.
