While she did a fair to decent job in cleaning up my garden but she kept asking to get paid before she finished the job. We agreed to pay her for 2 hours. After 30-45 minutes I told her that I needed to step out and would be back in about 20-30 minutes. She immediately asked if I could pay her. I said I would pay her when she finished. I got back in 30 minutes and she again asked to get paid...and again before she was done and before the allotted time. Again I said I would pay her when she finished. About 10-15 minutes before the end time she asked again to get paid. When she finished I gave her a check along with her business card and she asked "don't you need the card". I told her that I was offended by the number of times she asked to get paid before she finished and that I don't need her card. She said that I didn't like her the minute she walked into the house and went on and on and on. She then contacted my girlfriend who had made the arrangements to get the gardening work done, to complain about this review (I added this after I posted the initial review) and also asked for an additional $25.00 saying she deserved it because she had spent the time. Unfortunately YELP's lowest rating is one star... she should either get zero (0) stars or minus stars. All I can say is STAY AWAY... we unfortunately failed to look at the other Yelp reviews before we started with her. Read them all then STAY AWAY. THIS IS MY REPLY TO HER REBUTTAL We had arranged for an early morning appointment which we only expected to get an estimate as to how much Ros would charge for the work. The night before we sent a text requesting that she send us a text in the morning when she was leaving so we would be prepared for her. I fail to see how sending a text, at anytime is any sort of intrusion. When Ros arrived she wanted to do the work immediately and although we weren't prepared for it, I cancelled an appointment to accommodate her. She would have had us believe that she got up at 6:45 in the morning for our meeting (12 blocks away). She worked on the front yard when I asked her to do that instead of spending her time watering the backyard (which is what she wanted to do). She arrived at my place at 8:13 and started working around 8:25 and finished at 10:30. I fail to see how that is worth $25.00 as I only agreed to have her work for 2 hours. Unfortunately Ros has demonstrated history, with other clients, of constantly asking for payment before the work was completed and her work with me is no different. I will not allow her to browbeat me for money that she DOES NOT deserve. My best advise is again STAY AWAY. read more

Dear Yelpers, As a business owner myself, I know the importance of customer service. The fact that she is feigning innocence is further irritating. No one goes online and randomly picks a business to grant poor reviews without reasonable cause. I have opened a 2nd location & my businesses are thriving. Someone w/ my schedule doesn't have time to make up false reviews if Ros had not actually done precisely and exactly what I stated. I'm not trying to "ruin" her reputation; she EARNED her reputation and subpar rating. Hopefully this incident has taught her to treat ALL potential clients with courtesy and respect. read more

Roz the Gardner is a true Park Slope institution, making local gardens beautiful longer than most local residents have been living here. She did a great job for me years ago trimming back a gnarly dwarf tree in my front yard and was wonderfully attentive to my various concerns and requests in the process. We used Ros about 5 or 6 years ago She did terrible work, charging us $800 for two "custom trellises" that were supposed to be painted black, 2" thick and 8' tall. Once installed -with garbage ties on the top of an existing fence-- it was clear they were not what she claimed but rather Home Depot trellis she painted black. She threatened us when we complained. Last fall I found myself with 500 bulbs to plant before the frost and realized I wasn't going to be able to do it myself. Ros to the rescue! She was able to come over on short notice and did a great job for a good price. Highly recommended. read more

I had come back from the summer with dead plants and wanting to improve our rock garden. Ros cleaned up debris in the morning and we went shopping in the afternoon for perennials and annuals to spruce up the backyard and the front steps for fall and winter. I live in Park Slope and am from the midwest, so I am conservative with whom I do business. As I was walking through my neighborhood for the past 2 /3 years I kept noticing so very many sidewalk "gardens" with the name ROS THE GARDENER. Turns out my accountant across the street , Harvey Krauss also employs her to do his garden in front of his business. So I bit. She was thorough on the phone as far as her consultation and when I met with her she was lovely, vibrant and hardworking as her work showed in front of our building. ros the gardener. interested parties BEWARE this woman is dishonest, and very argumentative, and will overcharge you from initial quote. work is done according to what she wants to do, and not according to what you want, and she will twist everything around on you. i found this woman on angies list and she seemed to have a good rating and seemed equipped for the job that i needed done. now looking on her reviews on yelp, i am seeing that other people have complained about the same types of problems with her such as verbal harassment, dishonesty, not completing tasks she committed to, overcharging for an incomplete job, and demanding payment before job was completed. the fact that others have had the same experiences with Ros confirms that this was not a one time bad experience. i really wanted to take my time in writing this review, because i was so flabbergasted in the way this "professional" behaved. my neighbors actually complained about noise from the day she was yelling at me in my yard! she demanded payment before job was completed. and tried to make me sign a contract stating that i could not write a bad review!! unbelievable. read more

First off, Ros was very nice, professional, punctual, easy to communicate with, hardworking and honest. Although a little more money than I intended spending, her work was worth it. What I really loved was how Ros is very eco-friendly and doesn't believe in using harsh chemicals to kill weeds, etc. She gets them from the root, by hand and she did it all alone. My tenant said he was very impressed with how much work she did, especially all by herself. The best thing though was that she actually suggested putting bark nuggets in my yard, because it would be less expensive than planting grass and also easier to maintain. She took my budget into consideration and the fact that I live far way from my property. I would use Ros again and I definitely recommend her! read more

I am Artie from Ditmas Park Brooklyn. I had a bush that was so hard to cut that my previous gardener had broken his machine saw on it. So I looked into the computer for help and found Ros. She saw what I needed done . We came to an agreement beforehand about the cost and time it would take. I found her to be informative not argumentative. And being that you are dealing with a human being I try to be objective and I took what she said to me as advice not criticism. She took my wooly mammoth of a bush and turned it into a lamb. And like when you go to a barber you can have an expensive bad haircut or a very good cheap one or vice versa. And personalities can sometimes clash. But I was lucky we got along well and I was satisfied with her work and her as a person. I would recommend her. But remember in life one may say the glass is half full another may say half empty. One may say it is partly sunny another would say partly cloudy. So inevitably it's up to you. Life is what you make it and the chemistry you have with the people you meet along this journey. read more
