Jarita's on Tinker St. in Woodstock is tiny- but don't be fooled by this minimalist- yet intimate spot because there's more than meets the eye. Jay who owns Jarita's, has a loyal fanbase and after 40+ years in town, that says a lot. And prices are respective to the area. Besides the gorgeous fresh arrangements he (and his team?) design(s), he carries dry florals, Lavender, handmade flower post cards and other gift items. Everything feels thoughtfully chosen, making it a great place to find a gift--or a little something for yourself. The florist works in the back, with a big refrigerator of fresh flowers. As a rose lover, I was especially drawn to the gorgeous hybrid roses, but there was so much more: ready-made bouquets and individual flowers in florist buckets for building your own arrangement. The salesperson was friendly and made the whole visit feel welcoming without being pushy. I bought a travel-size hand lotion from Catskill Mountain Lavender, a family farm in Saugerties. It has a lovely sweet floral lavender scent, is very moisturizing, and is the perfect size to tote around in a purse. I loved finding a locally made product among the shop's offerings. The vase arrangement she made was very, very pleasing - much better than the one ordered elsewhere a month before. She understood I did not want the typical FTD looking funeral arrangements. What I wanted was for my moms flowers to feel natural and garden like. The Rosery worked with hydrangea, peonies, iris's, mimosa, curly willow and lots of forsythia. They coordinated all the arrangements ordered by friends to match what I had on order. It was beautiful.
