My husband had surgery Dec 8, 2016. Before going in he had been having very high blood pressure, had several episodes of kidney stones, was in chronic pain especially his heels, knees, elbows & wrists, he battled chronic fatigue, sleep apnea, heart burn & extreme moodiness. Up to being on the stretcher going into surgery I requested pillows to help prop up his knees & lay across his lap to rest his hands on to try to make him more comfortable which he still was NOT. After going back to prep for surgery, have surgery & wake up in recovery approx an hour my husband was in better mood! He had his IV out & was talking. I asked him if he needed his pillows back & he said he was fine & wasn't hurting at all. When discharged a couple hrs later he was ready to eat! We went back to the hotel by shuttle & ate in their restaurant. He ate mild hot wings, blacked fish & seasoned veggies with lemonade to drink. Fasting for surgery and being about 4 pm (this is food & drink he generally can't tolerate on a normal day!!!) I was surprised he did well. When we got back to the room we played a full game of rummy with him wide awake (out of character with his usual preference to nap without being in surgery). After the game of cards he wanted Pizza so I ordered a pepperoni Pizza with great warning! But he tolerated it!!! That night he tried to get us up & on the road to head back to the Panhandle of Florida which took us 6 hrs to get there due to road construction & heavy steady traffic. When we got home he proceeded to go out to work in his garage! He has surgery less than 24 hrs ago. He has so much energy compared to before. He (we) now sleep all through the night without to 10-20 episodes of apnea that waked us up before each night. His blood pressure is now within normal limits & NO MORE bone & joint pain. He had a small growing lesion above his left eye lid for a solid year BUT it disappeared. I am hopeful he won't have anymore kidney stones. My happy, friendly husband is back! He had been missing for 12-14 yrs! This group of persons that work there were all extremely kind & informative. They answered questions I did not think of yet. The doctors are extremely confident about their knowledge & surgery of the Parathyrold. While we were there waiting for him to come from surgery we met people from New York and out West. One had previous surgery at a Mayo clinic but they were not complete in their surgery & she needed another so they referred her there. I am so THANKFUL for their practice & expertise! Worth the surgery!!!!!

When I called back, I was told the doctor had an emergency and left the country, and the next available appointment with him would not be until December -- about 9 more months later. What makes this especially upsetting is that I was not trying to schedule some routine visit. I have Kallmann syndrome, a congenital form of secondary hypogonadism, and I needed an endocrinologist to help me start proper treatment connected to fertility and having children. I do not produce my own testosterone normally, and I was seeking specialist care to discuss hCG treatment to stimulate hormones involved in natural testosterone production and spermatogenesis. For someone in my situation, these delays are deeply serious and personal. Instead of offering real support or urgency, the office gave me almost no options. Only after I pushed did they find one appointment with another specialist 40 miles away, but then they said I needed a new referral. I got that done, waited another two weeks, and still nobody called me back. I called multiple times and was repeatedly told that manager Enid was in meetings and would call me back. She never did. When I finally came to the office in person, staff acted like they knew nothing, said there was nothing in the chart, and even claimed my appointment had been canceled because I did not have a referral -- which was not true. The whole experience felt disorganized, dismissive, and careless. At one point, the manager was loudly reacting to what staff had told me right at the front desk. I also spoke with Joelis, a call center supervisor, and did not feel my concerns were taken seriously at all. For a clinic that handles endocrine and hormone-related conditions, it is unacceptable to treat a patient's fertility concerns this way. When someone is trying to get help to preserve or begin the chance to have children, months of delay matter. Communication matters. Follow-through matters. Compassion matters. After spending hours there in person, I was finally able to get some printed proof of the cancellation and piece together part of what had happened. But this never should have reached that point. This experience caused unnecessary stress, delay, and emotional harm during an already sensitive and time-important medical situation.

The doctors provided exceptional care and ensured we had the best experience possible. In our recent training, we learned from Mill how to properly use the sugar measuring machine on a daily basis. Additionally, Lori provided us with a detailed discussion on various foods and their constituents and instructions for scheduling and necessary steps. We were fortunate to have both physicians who were not only knowledgeable but also very supportive.

Update 1.5 years out: since the procedure. I rechecked my labs a few times. My calcium was fine…read moreeach time, but my pth was slightly low. I was instructed to continue to take calcium for that low lab. I also continued vitamin d since it was trending up but still low. I was worried that I was going to have to take calcium for the rest of my life. But thankfully, my recently pth levels are normal. My vitamin d is finally in the normal range too. It isn't in the optimal normal range but it will get there. I just wanted to share that incase someone freaks out about pth being low after the procedure. So hopefully my labs will stabilize and continue to stay normal. Will update if anything changes. The scar is barely visible too. The incision was made at my natural fold. It healed nicely.

Yesterday, the 17th of Dec, they called to tell me they're cancelling my appt because they don't take my ins., even though I verified when I made the appt. Now 2 days prior to appt they suddenly can't see me & I have to go to one of their other offices that are 2x farther away which have no openings til March. Grrrr... When I got home I called back and asked what the actual issue was. Apparently they take UHC but not if it's the medicaid plan. smh. So I called my ins co and had them do a 3-way call to yet another TMG office and was told they do take my plan. wth? So we called again to make an appt, and this time they said they don't. He's ordering testing I've been needing (I just got insurance). He's been a fine doctor so far, but we haven't butted heads over anything yet. Lol. I don't know how he would act if you disagreed with him on something. That's the reason for the 4 stars is because I don't know him in all situations.

Room had not been cleaned from previous patient and supplies are stored in a plastic drawer cart. The only reason I remained here was because my child's toe was badly infected and she did not want to go to the ER and w could not get in with any other podiatrist for over a week. After dr explained that it would "take a while" to do procedure (i asked what she meant by this and she said 15-20 mins) she wanted me to pay before she did procedure despite the fact that she takes my insurance. She was worried that my insurance would never pay and I wouldn't either. So I forked over the $125 and she got to work. Unprofessional. After removing the ingrown toenail she gave verbal instructions but no paperwork for at home care. So unprofessional. Office is shared with main practice so staff must come out into lobby to speak with people instead of through the window like a normal doctors office. Very unprofessional. When we returned a week later for the follow up, I was once again asked to pay despite the fact that I have no copayment with my insurance. She was again worried about being paid from insurance. Then she had the gall to ask for referrals. Here's a referral, Dr. Reddy! Learn from someone else how to run a practice and how to treat patients!

I just completed surgery at the Norman Parathyroid Center. It was just as described on their…read moreinformative website, www.parathyroid.com. The personal attention, clear communications, and caring treatment I received far exceeded my experiences with other doctors. Living in San Diego with its plentiful medical facilities, I never expected I would need to go elsewhere for medical treatment. When my parathyroid disease was diagnosed, I visited one of the city's top endocrinologists. He referred me to a local surgeon as well as noted (when I asked) that he knew of Dr Norman's Center and spoke highly of it. But he left it to me to choose. I visited the local surgeon and his approach, after some more testing, was as Dr. Norman described might occur: Wait until he could identify which gland was diseased and be prepared for a much more invasive operation. (An 8" incision vs a 1/2 inch incision, a much longer operation vs 20 minutes, and full anethesia vs. twilight with no breathing tube required.) That made little sense to me, based on Dr. Norman's explanation on his website, and just common sense. For the first time, I realized that I needed to take responsibility for my own healthcare decisions and not blindly follow another's recommendations. I read every detail on the website, and it seemed too good to believe. My first reaction, due to my cautiousness and skepticism (as a degreed engineer and physicist) was to question whether the site was more of an infomercial. But as I dug further it was clear that Dr. Norman was trying to convey as much information as possible in as clear a fashion as possible. He was being passionate about what they do. It's now 5 days after the surgery and I'm like new. Just need to take calcium pills while the other dormant glands wake up and take over. If you have parathyroid disease, you owe it to yourself to find the doctor that performs more of this operation than anyone else. Not only is that Dr. Norman, but they also do it in a much less invasive way. Why would you go anywhere else?
