I stopped by Roopkala Sari Palace to pick up a dress for a traditional Indian reception. I wasn't sure what to expect after the bride recommended stopping here, and still wasn't sure as I pulled up to the small office building space. But once I walked inside I knew I'd come to the right place: racks upon racks filled with all sorts of saris and traditional gowns. The owner, Gita, was wonderful, she helped point me in the right direction and gave me advice on what to wear: style, color, how to fix my hair, jewelry to wear, etc. I was able to try on several different outfits, most ranging between $99-110 (that's the lowest quote she could give me on the gowns, there were more expensive options though, and the sari's start around $35). My only complaint is that the dresses are as they come, you can have sleeves added if there is extra fabric that comes with the dress (I was quoted $7 for both sleeves which includes a tucking in of the bodice as well). But if the dress does fit or doesn't fit, that's the risk you run. My gown, a beautiful long navy blue dress with silver stitching across the bodice, cost $99+tax. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Roopkala and would return in the future for a traditional Indian dress. read more

I had a very positive experience here. My boyfriend needed a dupatta for his kurta pajama. After running around to 3-4 stores in Cary/Morrisville and encountering terrible customer service and even stores that were closed during business hours, we found everything we needed here! She had a great selection of dupattas in the specific color we needed. She also had huge selection of bangles and some simple bindis. I felt all of the prices were reasonable and she didn't lie about quality/material (which is another problem we faced at the other stores). Poor customer service & communication! I contacted this business in April 2016 to ask whether they can stitch a blouse for my wife. They said yes for $35. I specifically asked the woman (I made a separate phone call just to ask this) whether they can stitch the blouse from scratch - she said that they can provided we give them the measurements. Accordingly, I had my parents bring the material from India. I contacted this business again in May 2016 to begin the stitching. All of a sudden the woman started making excuses about how they cannot stitch a blouse from scratch and they need a perfect fitting sample blouse AND measurements to stitch a new blouse! She also began saying how busy they are, and they need more than 2 weeks just to stitch a blouse. I will stay away from this business in future. I contacted another Indian clothing business in the area, and they have agreed to take the measurements themselves, provide lining, and stitch the blouse for us within 7-10 days. read more

They have a nice selection but don't seem too concerned about customer service. When I went in, the sales lady was having an extended chat with another customer; she didn't greet me or ask if I needed help. So I looked around and I found a dress I really liked. I asked if they could hold it for a little while. I was told No. I went back less than two hours later, only to be told that the dress had been sold, apparently to the other customer, who saw me trying it on. I understand that they don't hold dresses, but the sales lady actually looked amused at my disappointment and made no offer to help me find something else. I wanted to share my wonderful experience at Roopokala Sari in Raleigh NC. I went in looking for a specific type of wedding dress. Gita listened to my ideas and was able to find a dress that was more beautiful, than the picture of the one I took in the store. Gita has been very helpful, she took her time with me and did not rush me. I ended up purchasing accessories for my wedding, and Gita was very instrumental in helping me pick those out. I was duly excited when my soon to be husband also purchased his outfit there. They have an extensive amount of ALL types of Indian clothing, fine fabrics, shoes and accessories. The outfits were made of the finest material and the workmanship was flawless. Due to the type material of my dress, I had to have a special seamstress to take it in. Gita had the knowledge of the perfect seamstress and facilitated the whole transaction. The seamstress did an impeccable and professional job. I have told all my friends, family and associates about them. Planning a wedding is stressful enough and she really assisted with taking a lot of stress off me.
