I think the thing with furniture stores is that there is never one which covers all your needs…read more There's always something that seems not quite right that you need to go somewhere else for. So it is with Habitat. I like a lot of their furniture, but their lighting doesn't do it for me, for example. I like their cutlery, but I'm less keen on their crockery. And so on. This is quite a nice Habitat store, laid out attractively over two floors, on the King's Road near Chelsea Town Hall. The staff are generally helpful, they have a nice range of accessories to complement the furniture, and they have regular, good sales. The one major item I did buy from Habitat was my dining table. Although it is "partially self-essembly", it is still a lovely solid piece of furniture and, unusually, opens out on the long side to form a square, which seats eight. It's great for working on, too. So spot on in design terms for me. I was a little nervous about home delivery - my flat is 78 stairs up, with no lift - but the delivery staff were cheerful and came exactly when they said they would, waited for me to check everything was as it should be, and that there was no damage, and then took away the packaging. That is what I regard as good service.

I never gave a bad review! But Habitat on-line well deserves it!…read more If I could I would NOT give one star! I bought my product (plate sets) on-line. I was told it would take 2-3 days to get my order delivered..after 6 days my order hadn't arrived. Called customer services as I was expecting visitors in some days time and absolutely needed these plates!! I was told the order went to the wrong place but would be with me on time for when I needed it. Plates arrived over a week later (No plates for visitors). The box was ripped (no "fragile" label) and plates were broken. I complained and was offered a £10 voucher to spend in their own store?! as a "goodwill" gesture from habitat?! I asked to return and get a refund after such a poor service. I was home on expected time of collection. No one knocked my door and I received an email saying collection failed because no one was home?! (NO note was left on my doorstep either!) I called habitat saying that they were not at my place! I asked if they could contact the driver and I was told they could not contact the driver?! Drivers have no phone number?! This is the worse service I have ever came across with.. it is very disappointing, especially when you pay the extra money for the quality!

Me: "I'd like to speak to Mister Conran, please."…read more Sales clerk: "Certainly. May I ask why?" Me: "Yes, I'm here to write that Yelp review and I'll need several pieces of your furniture for, uh, long-term testing." That's the conversation that played in my head because the only way I'll be having any of this super-cool stuff is in my dreams. Conran sells amazingly high quality designer furniture and housewares. While most of it is very functional, some of it is... designer and therefore is very nice to look at but maybe not as functional. On the minus side, the prices are all perfectly displayed.

The Conran Shop is the best shop. I love the Conran Shop…read more Maybe I've got a little infatuation going on but I can't help it. This shop has so many things and it's overwhelming and hilarious and fun at the same time. For example, I bought a little popcorn set for my mom here for 8 pounds, and then I saw those crazy purses here, you know, the ones that look silly and are made up of shiny triangles and you think they look stupid but then when you touch them you start to think you want then? You know those crazy purses? the 500 pound ones? You know those kinds?!?! And then I guess they sell furniture here. But they also sell funny little games, and also these intricately designed santa cookies, and cards and just weird freaking stuff! That's the funny thing about the Conran Shop. It has a lot of fun stuff and maybe something is 8 pounds, or 800 pounds, you just need to check. But the best thing about the Conran Shop is their little cafe in the back. It's decorated beautifully and they serve food as well. I love going there. They've got wifi and it's a great place to escape... also because there aren't usually a ton of people there. So hopefully I've lost everyone with my crazy purse description to read the end of this review. ;)

Large store with a good range o furniture, bedding, lighting, soft furnishings and accessories…read more Staff are helpful and don't pressure you to buy like some stores. Bit of a nuisance not being able to pick up small furniture, such as a mirror, straight away. It has to be delivered at cost which I think is a bit of a rip off.

Shout out to Megan who gave us some great service. Went there during the sale and bought 4 pieces…read moreof Balmoral furniture (fancy!). Unfortunately one piece, the single bookcase had just been discontinued and we weren't able to order it. Megan then offered the store model as an ex display piece and seeing as I wanted two, called round all of the London stores looking for another one. Unfortunately (again!) one couldn't be found so she took us round the entire range until we found a suitable replacement. We also bought another store piece and completed the order. I had everything finally delivered yesterday and delivery was also good, the Laura Ashley people have me an expected time a couple of days in advance, called beforehand and delivered the ones from warehouse without issue. The independent delivery guy, Desmond, recommended by the store also delivered early. I felt really bad as I live on the fourth floor and one of his pieces didn't fit in the lift, he'd already told me that if this was the case there would be an extra fee, but the speed and professionalism he did it in meant that I had no problem in doing so. I'll definitely check out Laura Ashley again the next time I'm looking for furniture!

When I moved to London several years back, I think it took me about a year to figure out one could buy household goods someplace other than argos. Of course, I lived in halls near covent garden, so I give myself a small excuse for that idiocy. Now that I'm in Camden, I generally head to A&K for all the little bits and peices of kitchen and other assorted household stuff I may need (for those who have done time in the states, I often go here for the random sorts of things that used to have me Target-bound). They are not infallible, nor would I go there for sparkling service (not bad mind, they just basically leave you alone), but I find that if I can't find something random in A&K, there's a decent chance I won't find it anywhere else nearby either.

The shop is pretty god damn big as well, reaching very far back from the entrance.. in a true warehouse fashion. The staff responded well to my approaches (not in that way) - 'Yes I would like to buy a bed' 'Right this way sir!' Good lads. And a good shop, with competitive prices and a distinct lack of competition in the area, I imagine they are making a pretty penny for themselves - and with friendly staff like Mike available, they probably deserve it!
