As someone who was born and raised in Puerto Rico, I had been wanting to visit Hacienda Santa Ana and experience the Ron del Barrilito tour for a long time. I've enjoyed many tasting experiences during my travels--including coffee, wine, tequila, aguardiente, and other local spirits--so it only felt right to finally experience one of Puerto Rico's most iconic rums. The full tour with the rum tasting is about $80 per person, which I initially thought was expensive. After taking it, I can honestly say it was worth it. The tour is informative and well organized, and you learn about the history of Ron del Barrilito, the family behind it, the beautiful historic hacienda, and the rum-making process. The facilities are gorgeous, well maintained, and the rum itself is clearly a high-quality product. The reason I'm giving four instead of five stars is the customer service. Before the tour, I ordered a small appetizer because I was about to do a rum tasting on an empty stomach. As a solo traveler, I expected to feel welcomed, but unfortunately, I didn't. The bartender, Jesús, came across as dismissive and unfriendly. While I appreciated that he wanted to let me know the appetizer was a generous portion, the way he communicated it made me feel like serving me was an inconvenience rather than a pleasure. After the tour, I had the opportunity to interact with another bartender, Yamil, and the experience was completely different. He was warm, friendly, engaging, and genuinely made me feel welcome. He embodied the kind of hospitality I expected from such a prestigious brand. I also felt that the employee at the admission counter could have been more welcoming. When you're paying for a premium experience, the customer service should match the quality of the product from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. Overall, I still recommend the tour. It's a wonderful way to learn about one of Puerto Rico's oldest and most respected rum brands, and the setting is absolutely beautiful. With more consistent, hospitality-focused customer service, this experience would easily deserve five stars. read more

What a fantastic stop. Me and my four friends did a tasting tour and then set out back on the terrace. Be a mistake... Smoking cigars and sampling various cocktails. It was a fantastic day and the rum was quite amazing. The general manager, Freddie, came out and chatted us up to let us know how much they appreciated our business. The special process they head for almost 150 years was quite impressive. Every person that we met was incredibly friendly and super helpful for our total trip in Puerto Rico. I would totally recommend this place. read more

As soon as we checked into our hotel in Puerto Rico, we headed straight over to Ron del Barrilito for a rum tour, and it was amazing! Our tour guide, Luis, was so amazing, and he was so knowledgeable!! We learned so much about the rum, how it's made, and the history. The property was beautiful and the rum was delicious. With the tour, you get a drink token and are able to order a drink from the bar. I literally had the best rum mule I've ever had in my life! My husband ordered an old-fashioned and he said it was probably one of the best he's ever had as well. The tour was so relaxing and the vibe was so chill. They offer several different rums. A 2-star, a 3-star, a 4-star, and a 5-star. They were all great. I noticed the pricing isn't bad for the 2- and 3-star, but when you get to the 4- and 5-star, it jumps quite drastically. Overall, it was a really fun experience, and I definitely recommend checking them out. read more

An excellent tasting tour. The historic property and modern bottling facilities are interesting. The rum is amazing. The tasting tour is probably the only opportunity you will ever have to taste the 4-Star and 5-Star. read more

When you want a true rum experience in Puerto Rico--heritage, craftsmanship, and plenty of pours--Ron del Barrilito is the move. There are a few rum options in the San Juan area, from small craft spots to the large commercial Bacardi campus. Ron del Barrilito sits somewhere in between--but leans heavily toward authentic hacienda experience rather than theme park. The grounds are beautifully maintained, rich with history, and the visitor center has a polished but understated feel. You immediately sense legacy over mass production. We opted for the Mixology Class, and it was absolutely worth it. Experience & Setting * Hacienda-style property with visible history and character * Informative tour component explaining the distillation and aging process * Thoughtful gift shop with premium sipping rums Mixology Class * Welcome drink included--and not just a preset cocktail; you choose from a real menu * Hands-on instruction creating multiple cocktails * Rum-forward takes on classics like an Old Fashioned and Piña Colada * "Encanto" cocktail (with kiwi juice) was a standout * Each cocktail used generous pours--this is not a light tasting Between the welcome drink and the cocktails you mix (about two ounces of rum each), you'll leave feeling very festive. Plan transportation accordingly and consider eating beforehand. Why Choose This Over Larger Brands? * Focus on premium sipping rum rather than mass-market production * Smaller, more intimate feel compared to Bacardi * Better for couples, friend groups, or celebratory outings Verdict Ron del Barrilito offers one of the best rum experiences in Puerto Rico--historic setting, high-quality rum, and a fun, hands-on mixology component that feels generous and celebratory. It's not the cheapest activity, but you absolutely get value for what you pay. Five stars and highly recommended over the more commercialized alternatives. read more

Ron del Barrilito is a must in PR! The guided tour was awesome -- we learned about the family's history, saw some of their oldest casks, and got a real feel for how their rum is made. The mixology class was the best part: three delicious cocktails, plenty of laughs, and a solid buzz by the end. Our guide was funny, knowledgeable, and clearly loved what they do. Everything about the experience felt authentic and memorable. Highly recommend! read more

We took an Uber to the Distillery in Bayamon to do an Heritage Tour $45 p/p about half an hour explaining all its history, the home where founder lived, original furniture, grounds, manufacturing, storage. It is a smaller distillery but the only original Puerto Rican brand, the tour offers 1 free bar drink p/p we had a coffee drink & of course an island original pina colada with excellent service thru out. At the end we went to the gift shop/store & brought back on flight a "Coquito", 2 real wood 4.25" tall bar cups & 1 three star Rum Superior Especial bottle read more

This was such an amazing experience! The mixology instructor was super professional and knowledgeable. He made the class very fun! You make 3 drinks along with a tour of the factory. For reference we did the mixology/tour combo. The tour is quite impressive and it's not a long time. The staff here is so friendly! We arrived late due to traffic and missed the tour so they allowed us to come back the next day - so top tier service!! A drink is included in the price and the drinks are craft cocktails - more can be purchased for $14. The drinks are INCREDIBLE and the bartender is so friendly! The customer service is TOP TIER AND I CANNOT SAY THAT ENOUGH! The snacks were very good - we had the hummus. This was the highlight of our trip!! read more

This is a place worth visiting and an experience that's recommended (by me) over bacardi or any of the other tourist populated distillery and mixology tours. We booked the cocktail class + heritage tour online. There's parking at the property, easy access, and restrooms. Upon checking in, you can redeem your complimentary cocktail and take it on the distillery tour with you in take out mugs. The tour guides are so passionate and adorable, they give you a tour of the home, hacienda, and barrel room/distillery. Then during the cocktail tour, you make 3 drinks all made with their RDB rum. Old fashioned, pina colada and a local special. All 3 and the first welcome drink were excellent. The guide's enthusiasm, wonderful story telling with sprinkles of history on PR, and clear instructions made this experience really amazing and a hit with all members of our group. read more

I had the absolute pleasure to experience an amazing tour at the historic destellaría at Rondeñ Bartolito under the amazing demonstration from Marjorie at about 2:30 on September 1, 2026. The entire staff was incredible from the moment I walked in and was fortunate to try the mixology tour and taste so many different experiences! It is an amazing experience as a whole and I want to give Marjorie special praise! Thank you so much Mike Hoert read more

A fantastic experience on PR. We booked this distillery tour and mixology class for my young adult children, but I absolutely loved it too. We didn't know much about rum, but we learned a lot and their visitor center is gorgeous. Friendly bartender Freddy started us off with a complimentary rum- cocktail drink and kindly checked in on me later as I told him I was a lightweight. We had a small tour group and mixology class with Eric. He was responsive and answered all our questions and was very patient during class as I'm a novice cocktail maker. The whole experience was really personalized and we were so glad we picked this rum maker. We realized at the end why folks might take an Uber here. 1 drink before and 3 during Mixology! Come prepared to drink! Great tour and class -worth every penny. read more

This was our first time doing a rum distillery and I'm happy that this was the first one we tried. This place was packed with family history and one of the oldest rum distillery in the area. The tour was in-depth and we even got to taste one of their oldest casks. Unfortunately we had to rush our experience here since I booked for one at Bacardi right after this one. I must say after Bacardi though, I much prefer coming back here again. The pina colada was superb here! It also has a much more intimate and cozy experience compared to the party scene we saw at Bacardi. Will definitely come back! read more

There is one place that people going to Puerto Rico should skip and one they should visit. Instead of throwing more money at a conglomerate like Bacardi, why not enjoy something authentic, real and truly local? The best thing about the distillery is that it's more than just a visit to the cellars. There is a beautiful house tour in which owners used to live. There is the beautiful story about how the founder used to walk around with a tiny barrel pouring rum for his guests. There is an old tower. And of course, a nice visitor center with a bar. With all that said, the rum is absolutely amazing. Balanced without being overly sweet. People are very kind. If coming here, make sure to try the 4 and 5 star, they pour it by the ounce and the experience of it is truly worth it. read more

I had a great time here at this distillery. For anyone visiting Puerto Rico I highly recommend coming here. All the staff from the greater, to the bartender, our tour guide (Jimmy), and everyone working the gift shop were all awesome and super friendly. Even tho the tour is kind of short you do get a lot of information and learn a lot about the history of the distillery and rum in Puerto Rico. Jimmy was a great tour guide, friendly, funny and full of interesting information. He answered all questions and was very genuine. The rum tasting was a lot of fun and next time I'm in PR I do want to return to get a bottle of their 4star rum. It's a lot more expensive than I was expecting but it is a great tasting rum. Also if you purchase at the distillery you get to bottle yourself. But overall I had a great time and experience here and definitely recommend. read more

I came here for a mixology class but we were late so we switched it to a rum tasting which was great. The tour was amazing first we started with a history of the rum and we walked the grounds. This included the house and the different area where the barrels were kept. The different types of barrel were explained as well. Then we went inside to taste the rum. The rum was quite delicious and I loved the tour. I definitely recommend it and the drinks at the bar are delicious. I am still thinking about that delicious coffee drink. The bartender is a genius. The guide was great, very informative and engaging. The space is beautiful and reminds me of an hacienda. read more

I recently took a guided tour of the distillery on a trip to Puerto Rico led by the best tour guide (Pedro). Before hand, I grabbed a drink from the bar, crafted by Jesus. The glass was smoked over tobacco leaves before being filled with an amazing rum old fashioned. Must try! After the tour, we were able to do a tasting of the 2, 3, 4, and 5 Star Rons. Tomas, in the gift shop, was incredible as he helped me with filling and labeling my own bottle of 4 Star from the barrel. The rest of my group enjoyed a variety of handcrafted cocktails from the bar as I finished up the tour, and everyone was highly satisfied. The level of friendliness and customer service by everyone we interacted with was simply amazing. If I ever return to Puerto Rico, there is no way I am skipping the chance to stop here again. read more

Came here for a mixology tour via Viator, and right off the bat, they hand you a token for a free drink. I went with the lavender concoction, which was nothing short of magical, while my partner stuck to the "old barrel" for that vintage vibe. We arrived early, snagged an outdoor seat, and even squeezed in a cigar like true cocktail connoisseurs. After a 30-minute tour of the premises, we dove into a mixology class where we crafted an Old Fashioned, a mind-blowing kiwi drink, and a piña colada that had us questioning our life choices--so good, I nearly couldn't finish it (i literally didn't cuz I didn't wanna die)! We wrapped up by splurging on some top-notch bottles, ranging from 3 to 5 stars. Seriously, if you think you've experienced touristy PR, you haven't seen anything yet! read more

Beautiful property! We didn't get to do an actual tour but the grounds are nice and the bar / tasting room / gift shop building is also nice. We wanted to try the rums to see if any were worth taking home so we did a flight. It's expensive but the pours were big enough that me and a friend were able to split them and the cost. We signed up on line for the tour only. When we got here we decided to do the tasting too and they would not just charge us the difference and thought that unfair. The tour of the distillery felt shorter than the 1/2 hour. If you are only doing the tour it really isn't worth it. In the end the tasting was good, but definitely worth the price. We tasted four different rums made on property. After the tasting, we redeemed our cocktail tokens and purchased some chips and dip from the bar. Ron del Barrilito is such an underrated rum tour. It's the oldest in Puerto Rico and was family owned until very recently. My friends and I did a heritage tour which came with a welcome drink. Our tour guide was super friendly and because it's a small, mom and pop distillery the tour felt very intimate. You could also choose from a variety of different rum based drinks for your welcome drink, which I preferred unlike the other well-known rum factory tours that give pina coladas to everyone. My drink was pretty strong despite it being free which I loved. After the tour, my friends and I decided to stay at the bar and have a couple more drinks. I got a sipping rum which is pretty unique to this distillery. I won't spoil anything for anyone interested in the tour! read more

Fun and fantastic distillery tour in San Juan! We had a very informative walk about from Timmy and enjoyed learning the history of this rum distillery. He was also extremely willing to answer all of our questions. After the tour, we completed a tasting of rum aged for various times, corresponding with the number of stars that they put on the bottle - ranging from two stars to five stars. All had a different nuanced flavor and were enjoyable to try! When the tour and tasting is complete, you're welcome to make purchases in the on-site shop or move on to the bar where you can use your token for an included beverage. The bartenders could not be better at making a variety of drinks and also giving recommendations based on your taste preferences.
