There is a huge sign outside the location naming the site - however, that's the only information on it. There is only an unremarkable street address fastened to the chain link fence (which I am reasonably sure is not historic) which surrounds the place. Parking is limited to two spaces. The windows are closed off with steel grates - and they don't look like the original inhabitant put them there, either. The steps and doors are in poor condition. The woodwork around the building is in a state of rot. It may be advanced but the thickly applied and questionably historically correct paint doesn't allow full examination. The building is filled with a collection of junk. The walls, ceilings and floors have obviously been reworked over the decades with the result that what is in there is a confused presentation. It looks more like a museum of do-it-yourself failures than a historical site. The storm cellar door is rotten. The windows are filthy. The yard is mowed but that is all. In the grass and yard there are several hidden items like stones, wood and metal that are a hazard to simply walking. There is no trail to the door. No supporting material. In any case - it's an eyesore and dangerous to approach.

As a novice of woodworking, I was blown-away by the intricate woodwork and finishings throughout the home. The three ladies that lead our tour of the home shared many interesting details about the property, its restoration, and details of Clara and Henry's years at the estate. Many of the restoration stories, like finding a tub for Henry's bathroom or how Clara had a section repainted white were intriguing. Even though much of the home, especially the second floor, is still being restored it was a fascinating experience.

The juxtaposition of the estate of an industrialist (or robber baron, or visionary, or racist, depending on your point of view) with a distinctive immigrant community makes for a striking reflection on Americana. The grounds include some gardens, and a lake with a path around it. Access to the river is limited, but it didn't look like that impressive of a river. The greenery is more worthwhile.

Uniroyal was founded 1892 as the United States Rubber Company in Connecticut as part of the merger of nine separate companies which was one of the biggest corporate consolidations at the time. They became a major supplier for General Motors as an OEM manufacturer. In 1985, Uniroyal merged its tire operations with B.F. Goodrich, forming the Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company and they were later acquired by Michelin in 1990, ending its run as an independent company. And I can't remember ever having a Uniroyal on my many vehicles. The Uniroyal Giant Tire was built for the 1964 New York World's Fair as a Ferris wheel styled structure. I thank my Yelp Bestie for an annual membership pass that she won for two people. I am truly grateful. This was a prime time to turn lemons into lemonade! We decided to check out the DaVinci special exhibition, shop the Museum Store and have lunch at the Plum Market Kitchen, too. The DaVinci exhibit was amazing. I had no idea of how many inventions Leonardo DaVinci made. I was only familiar with the Mona Lisa painting and the Safety Bridge. The Room of Mirrors was pretty cool.
