Terrible job measuring and cutting wrong width & depth.
Stephanie V.

Worst countertop installation experience ever. Damages property, cuts inside and blows dust cloud everywhere, terrible seams, doesn't level or shim, seams separating and not level within 2 weeks, takes several visits to get it 75% right but still wrong, measurements are off all over. Held up next clients job til I paid in full. Very exhausting process, tried to work it out with him but he just wants his money and is very mean. This job is paid in full but this is how it looks so now I have to pay someone else to fix his work. His installers have zero experience so he yells at them too. He doesn't take responsibility for his poor communication, his mistakes on cuts or seams, he has a bad temper and threatens a lot. Lesson learned. Beware.

On a scale of 1 to 5 he is a -2. Took them almost 6 weeks to install after I paid them 60%. Came after 9 p.m. at night and caused damage to my home, especially my brand new cabinets that had to have new slides installed because of over an inch thick granite dust. We experienced respiratory issues because of inhaling the dust but had to continue vacuuming and cleaning to meet restore La deadlines. Another nightmare with a contractor. These people care nothing about flood victims or what they do to your home or infants living in the home. He really should lose his license.

She recommended we paint the walls "agreeable gray" and gave us tips and advice on how all the colors would work together. Talk to Amber, she's a star. Now....... about installation. Countertops went fine. Then there was the backsplash. First they told us one day. Then two. Then it turned into 6 FULL DAYS. We never felt like a priority. Adam (the quality assurance guy) helped us get what we needed done, but before that we got the run around from everyone else. Unacceptable for the amount of money we were spending on this. We had to PULL info out of the people who were supposed to be communicating with us. Now that it's all said and done, I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Would I recommend assured to a friend? Honestly unsure. The end product is great but was the hellish process worth it? Not sure.

Hillary was very patient with me as I made very important decisions. She was very knowledgeable on their products from her experience. She was very personable and excited about my selections and the final outcome. Hillary was always flexible with her times to meet with me and very prepared with my plans and prior selections ready to go when I walked in the door. I never felt rushed or pressured when selecting things for the house. Hillary was prompt to get quotes to my builder. All of these things were very important to me as this building experience was all new to me. I never felt overwhelmed throughout the process because of Hilary. I highly recommend her!

My problem is that when we went in to place our order they showed me a padding for the laminate that they said was the best you could buy and that they were giving it to us at a discount. Before we placed our order I asked about their return policy. I explained to them that I had recently had a bad experience with Holmes Building Materials so before I spent the large sum of money necessary to purchase the flooring I wanted to be sure that I could return any extra. Both the owners, husband and wife, told me that I could return the flooring, not a problem. I took them at their word (huge mistake) and made the purchase. The first red flag came when the flooring was delivered by my "contractor" and the padding did not match the one they showed me in the store. When I brought this to their attention they insisted that the padding I received was just as good as the one they showed me in the store. However, I noted that the one I received was not nearly as thick as the one they said I would receive. (The wife took pains to show me how thick the padding was). They did not adjust my invoice to reflect the cost of the new lower quality padding and when I asked them about this they said that they were the same price. They already had my money so I felt that I was the victim of a bait and switch. The next problem came when we realized that our "contractor" purposely told us we needed more tile and flooring than was necessary in order to charge us more per square foot. We were left with about six extra boxes of both. I immediately called the store and asked about returning the extra boxes and they told me that I could not return them because they were special order. Everything in their store would be a special order. They do not have space for large a inventory. I told them that they did not say that when I asked about returns before making the purchase then they said that they only accept returns if the mistake in measuring was theirs. They lied to and cheated us. I will never do business with them again. I will only do business with stores that will accept returns like Home Depot, Lowes and Floor and Décor. Smaller stores like this will mislead and cheat in order to get your business.

The Installation people were what made this experience horrible. I had to constantly call them to try and schedule (which took weeks, I had to call the customer service rep multiple times to get them to help only for it eventually lead to my request being handed to the owner to finally get it scheduled), once I finally got it scheduled they cancelled on me multiple times due to other projects taking longer than expected. I never got a call back to reschedule and AGAIN had to leave multiple voice messages to get them to finish what they started, finally someone from installation showed up only to as me "Whats wrong with it?", Me: "Theres no trim on it..." Installer: "oh... I think they sent me to the wrong house, yeah I dont have the stuff for this..." SO. FRIKKING. FRUSTRATING. They apologized of course, but I am done with them. Halpin's was great up until you deal with the Installation part, and they do a great job when they do finally show up, but the amount of stress just wasn't worth it when I can easily go somewhere else for just as good results.
