Definitely stop in here when in The Trossachs area. Beautiful old hotel with a history and an old world charm. Beautiful grounds for peaceful wandering. Non-hotel guests warmly welcomed. They have a main restaurant and also a little bistro in a separate onsite building, called The Potting Shed. We ate in the bistro. Food was incredibly good. Parsnip fritters for a starter were the best food we had during our time in Britain! The unusual take on Sticky Toffee Pudding, with layers of brown sugar, was an improvement on the classic. Short walk to the river. What would be better than a stop here? A stay here! Pricey, but warranted. Look for low rates and deals off season. read more

Wow -- even if you don't stay here you MUST visit this lovely old 17th Century house now turned hotel -- with many interesting rooms downstairs to look at and walk through. The outdoor grounds provide a peaceful place to walk -- and the flowing river is just 100 yard down a short hill. The real star is the Bistro restaurant next door which turned out to be our best meal during our two week tour of the UK. Only reason we wound up there is because they were full at the main hotel "fancy" restaurant - the the desk manager steered us to The Potting Shed. Chef was Polish and is certainly going places -- as for VERY reasonable prices we got amazing, beautiful dishes like Beet Root, Parsnip Fritters, Chicken wrapped in Parma Ham, Fish and Chips, Lamb, and the most wonderful Bread and Butter Pudding for desert. Atmosphere was rustic and charming -- sit on the small covered patio for that view. Would HIGHLY recommend if you are anywhere near this area -- it's worth a special trip just to see the Peacocks parading on the lawn. read more

We had dinner at the adjacent cottage on evening and stopped by the hotel afterwards. This property is amazing and the grounds around the buildings were very scenic. We sat at the park on the river before dinner and enjoyed the peaceful nature all around. The food was very delicious and they have good options between fish, burgers, and other local culinary choices. If you are looking for formal, I would recommend the Hotel, if you are looking for something cozy and low key you can eat at outside bistro dinning option. My family recently stayed here on our way to Edinburgh from Glasgow, and we were consistently impressed at every turn. The hotel is located in a seventeenth-century house. The interior of the hotel is tastefully designed to emphasis the historic nature of the hotel. The common areas are absolutely gorgeous: a beautiful dining room, a fantastic bar replete with whisky cart and piano, a wonderful tea room and sunroom, which are perfect for afternoon tea. The grounds are equally gorgeous: a river running directly out the back, peacocks meandering around the premises, a beautiful garden. The service was equally superlative. Breakfast was lovely, with any number of choices. Afternoon teas are substantial: tea, multiple hand sandwiches, wonderful pastries. Finally, the staff was incredibly accommodating, as we had a toddler and a small snaffu with our rental car. We wholeheartedly recommend the Roman Camp and will happily stay here again, if we're in the area. read more

The Roman camp is such a charming place! As soon as you arrive on the tree lined streets and see the spectacular gardens you know you are in a special place. The roman camp is older which adds to it's charm. Due to age, like everything it has small defects- a scratch or small crack here or there, a toilet that doesn't flush quite right and squeaky floors. That being said, those small things don't outweigh the charm of this place and actually add to the charm. We were there for my sister in law's wedding. We stayed in the yellow parkour which was perfect. It had a little sitting area and we loved the decor. We got to see all of our families rooms and they were all great and unique. Some smaller, some larger. The wedding was great and the hotel really seemed to go out of their way to please the bride as well as all of the guests. The hotel also has expansive gardens and a little river which are fun to walk after a meal. Breakfast is good and has many choices. The hotel is walkable to many restaurants/ shops in Callandar. Other then the beds (2 twins pushed together) being hard and lumpy and poor with-fi service, I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

We stayed at this Hotel for two nights during a whirlwind tour of Scotland. It's a gorgeous Country house with beautiful grounds. Our booking and check-in went very smooth. As soon as we parked our car, we had afternoon tea which was simple but great and very tasteful in a cosy front room overlooking some of the grounds. After our delicious food we couldn't wait to go for a walk and check out the scenery along the river. There was a group of guests there for a wedding. It seemed to be a great setting for one. Our stay was pleasant. The rooms are very country looking as expected. Some pieces of furniture can use some updating or repair. We had breakfast there in the mornings and headed out to explore. The service was good but not as personable as we got to experience in the rest of Scotland. Overall we had a great stay. read more

We got married at Roman Camp in June 2010. Absolutely perfect in every way. Fiona could not be more helpful with our plans, especially as we live over 400 miles away! As we were having a small wedding and we used the Library for the ceremony which is a stunning room. After the ceremony we had a fantastic meal and the Wilson Room was a perfect size for our wedding party. Location is brilliant and the setting is stunning on the rivers edge.
