Both of my selections were recommended by the waitress and were so delicious!! She was easy to communicate with and happy to help us. The man who seemed to be in charge was so kind and checked on us repeatedly throughout the meal, asking us where we were from and shaking our hands before we left. It was nice to feel genuinely welcomed by a restaurant! We couldn't ask for a better experience. There are many tables out on the patio and also tables inside, where it was cool and comfortable for a hot July day.

The menu is traditionally Italian, with pasta, pizzas, meat, and fish dishes based on southern Italian classics. On our visit, service was friendly and efficient. On our first visit, we both had a side salad, followed by pasta. Side salads were very fresh and generous, with proper Italian dressing. Both pasta dishes were well, flavoured and - joy of joys - the pasta was al dente. We decided to eat here again before we left Trier. On our second visit, I had a pizza Contadina (vegetarian) and my partner had scallopini Italia, a pork escalopes, topped with tagliatelle and bolognaise sauce. Again we were impressed with the quality and, while generous, portions were not excessive. Recommended.

That's how we found the San Marco. It is located right by the Dreiländereck were Luxembourg, Germany, and France meet. We had a nice bottle of Chianti plus Pellegrino. We both enjoyed a tomato soup and then had two pasta dishes. The portions were huge. We couldn't finish it all and has to take the rest home. The dishes were flavorful and we enjoyed them. The overall ambiance was definitely less formal than in France or Luxembourg. But then the prices were less than half of those across the border.
