If you are looking for a new dentist, do not consider this practice! After the dentist got me numb,…read moreshe came to me and said that something just broke and she would have to put a temporary in and have me come in at a later time for the permanent. Gasp! I said that was not a good option. They waited just a few more minutes and she then came back and said that it got fixed and we could go ahead with the permanent. Interesting. The dental assistant was very rude. She did not coach through the painful aspects of my procedure -- she scolded. The dentist was rough in my mouth. This made me squirm. As I did, Dr. Crowder kept asking in a rather sarcastic tone, "Are we going to get this completed"? A song came on and the dental assistant and dentist sang along with it right over my head. How unprofessional! I couldn't ask them to stop because of the way they had my mouth propped wide open. I waved my hands around hoping that would alert them to take the prop out of my mouth so I could ask them to please stop singing. All the assistant did was scold me for moving again. She said once again in a cool tone, "You have got to stop moving around". The dental assistant tuned the nitrous oxide off before everything was done. I asked her to please leave it on. We are new here in the Shenandoah Valley (just moved from TN) and this has never happened anywhere else. Other practices left it on until they were completely done. The assistant stated that I didn't need it anymore while they were still working! How does she know what I need. I paid $100.00 cash for the nitrous oxide and I should have been able to choose how long I needed it! I cancelled my next appointment and I'm never going back. Don't make the mistake that by checking this practice out!

To cut a long story short I had no need to worry. Right from the start Dr. Crowder and her assistant Christel were kind and reassuring, listened to my worries and put me at ease. Throughout the 3 plus hour appointment Dr. Crowder & Christel explained what they were doing, what was next and asked if I was comfortable. Dr. Crowder is a master and most attentive in her patient care. She and Christel are a great team. I highly reccomend Dr. Crowder if you are looking for a new dentist, this is the place to go!

She left me with a (very badly done, initially, as it was) crown broken at the root, knowing that…read moreall 4 front teeth had bad root resorption from aggressive orthodontics & would eventually need to be replaced with prosthetic implants. She had JUST done X-rays and my teeth badly needed cleaning less than 3 months after her regular cleaning procedure. She saw no issue with the roots... HOWEVER... when I got to VCU 3 months later I was told IMMEDIATELY that the right front tooth had almost no bone tissue left in which to place the implant anchor & all 4 front, top teeth need immediate replacement. AS DO THE BOTTOM FOUR!!! I am FORTY SIX FKN YEARS OLD, M'KAY??? I've never even had a gd cavity. THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, at LEAST. Do NOT go to this dentist if you want teeth. Her receptionist texted my estranged, abusive spouse with my appointment and financial information after being told explicitly to protect my PRIVACY. I made it very clear we were divorcing. Further, this monumental idiot refused to send my dental records to VCU and does not know how to construct a grammatically correct email. Punctuation & spelling... hellew??? Dr. Tatum did not even initially apply bonding to the exposed root that her shoddy crown left me with after it broke. I had to make an appointment and quite literally demand that even this remedial protocol be followed. She knew very well what was at stake. Not to mention the PAIN. She never even followed up, & until last week had ZERO clue that I was no longer a patient. AVOID AVOID AVOID SHE WILL JACK UP YOUR GRILL! I am in good hands now with the dentists & surgeons at VCU Faculty Practice. *UPDATE 9/21* Great news!!! :D A total of EIGHT MOLARS also need to be replaced with prosthetic implants over the course of the next year. This is beyond ineptitude. This woman, LISA TATUM, should be stripped of her license and all credentials. She certainly won't be getting another job like the one she was entrusted with when she vied for the contract for my care. This is an absolute disgrace!
