Brown Veterinary Clinic - Mr S'more

We've always had good things to say about Brown Vet in Rolla, Mo. We usually had to wait at least a…read moreweek to get our animals in to be seen because they are short staffed and apparently aren't doing anything to fix that. The big problem I have is they have no answering machine when they're busy or when they're not even in the office; when it clearly states they are open. We drove 30 min to get meds and to make an appt for our dog who is in a great deal of pain only to find they are closed for two weeks. It would've been so much easier if they could have updated their info online and had an answering machine to let people know they were closed. I'm extremely pissed!!! Have a backup vet!! You will need one.

As I was having a medical emergency with my pet, I did as directed. Approximately, 15 to 20 minutes later I received a return call from the veterinarian stating that there is just one of her and she can't possibly come in to work on an animal and then have to work a full day tomorrow. Even after describing the grave condition and abrupt onset of the medical emergency I was told NO again. By my appointment time the next morning my pet was deceased. I did take him in to surrender his body to the office for cremation. I understood that there is only one clinician in this office, and that one person cannot do it all. My problem is advertising and stating on your recording that clients will pet emergencies leave their names and phone numbers. That message that I received on the phone was very misleading and very inaccurate. I was having a pet emergency. And either your office is staffed to handle emergencies or it is not. If your office is not staffed to handle emergencies, then do not act like it is. And change the recorded message that clients receive when they call your office number after hours. I have to wonder if someone with more prestige, money or cloutwould have received the same answer and response. prior to this incident I hadIa wonderful relationship and rapport wwiththis particular office. Going forwardi am not sure. Suffice to say that today I am heartbroken for a few different reasons.

So coming here I was pretty nervous but the reviews all seemed great besides the few outliers that didn't phase me. For one, the vet is always clean and is pretty roomy. I like that it's not a small waiting room/ front desk area where it feels crammed and muggy. I also like the front desk people because as much as I've came to this vet, some of them start to recognize you and your dogs and it makes you feel welcomed. I'm not sure what the other reviews were talking about but every time I've been there, it was always the same few front desk people. If they were talking about the techs, then they need to know that vet techs come and go, we do live in a military town where people are constantly moving, and it's a lot of young faces so probably people who just got done with their program and looking to work. Lastly, I truly enjoy this vet because of the veterinarians. Dr. Hackworth is such a kind soul and you can tell just by one meet with him. He has always taken care of my three pups whenever we came in for their routine vaccinations. Anytime my babies had surgeries I always requested him. I'm sure they are all great though because they are under the watch of Dr. Hackworth. I have been coming to this vet for almost 2 years now and probably a lot more visits than majority of these reviewers due to the fact that I have 3 fur babies and there's been surgeries and multiple puppy shots that they had to get so this backs up my credibility of this review. Lastly, their prices are unbeatable. I've never been to such a nicely priced vet. Trust me- my first two pups have been spayed and neutered and my third one was the cheapest! I highly recommend this vet!

It started…read moreabout 11 pm Thursday night and continued through the next afternoon with time between bowel movements decreasing from every hour and a half to about every 15 minutes. By Friday around 3:30 pm, he was not able to go anymore but was still acting as though he needed to, trying but nothing would come out. He was also beginning to pant, drool, and cry a lot and even tremble, I'm assuming from dehydration and/or pain. This is when I decided we had to get him into a vet right away. We found the closest one and headed straight there. They seemed uninterested in helping us from the very beginning but became extremely rude once I described his symptoms. They literally kicked us off the property with full hostility, claiming our dog was probably infected with parvo and that they didn't want him on the lawn (he wasn't, his symptoms even with the severe diarrhea didn't resemble parvo. I've had two animals die from parvo and his symptoms, as bad as the diarrhea was, were nowhere even remotely close to how parvo presents or smells--plus he is fully vaccinated, so very unlikely that he would contract it which I told them.) They would not even allow us time to discuss our next plan of action while our dog was secured inside of our vehicle. The vet stared us down aggressively until we were COMPLETELY off the property. The only decent thing they did is suggest that we go to Sullivan vet, which was approximately 20 miles in the opposite direction of where we were headed and closing within the hour. We decided to try our luck there as all other vets in the direction we needed to go were much further. I'm so glad we did. When we pulled up they looked extremely busy, I was so worried they would not be able to see him but they did! They did ask us to wait in the car with him until they were ready just in case, which is totally understandable. But they ended up staying past closing just to take care of us. They did a fecal test which literally took 2 minutes. Confirmed he didn't have parvo, he basically just had a bad stomach bug. They gave him a hydration pack, meds, gentle food, and loaded us up with extra free supplies like puppy pads for the ride in case he had any accidents. They were so incredibly kind and helpful. And really went above and beyond by staying late to care for him on Halloween when I'm sure most of them had family stuff to do.

My muted calico, Abby, named after Dr. Abigail Whiting, who quite literally saved her life more than seven years ago after she ate something that resulted in a dangerous obstruction, is here again today. I'm in during pre-dawn hours for recurring constipation that we just can't seem to completely get reined in. Dr. Symphony Nguy is taking care of my fuzzy little baby right now. She is incredibly passionate and patient, with a totally soothing voice and mannerisms. She's convinced Abby's issues are able to be resolved with a comprehensive, multi-pronged treatment plan! She offered several recommendations, spoke with me briefly about nutrition and offered immediate relief and hope for many more healthy, happy years with my feline companion. As well, this past weekend, we needed to bring in mom's 19-year-old "Good Kitty" to be euthanized. She told us she was ready to go to Kitty Heaven and in the moment, our regular vet was unavailable. It was all a bit of a blur, but suffice it to say, the staff was understanding and kind throughout. I highly recommend VSS and their team, especially Salem.

I called and asked for an appointment the next day for my Goldendoodle puppy, due to her (the person that helped me, I cannot remember her name, I believe it to be the owner. ) being in Rolla and having a vet appointment the same day. I did not think that I would be able to get an appointment due to it being so last minute. However she stated she would make it work and then told me to bring my puppy in right after the appointment. I was very nervous about having my puppy groomed due to it being my puppies and I first time at a groomers, and not being sure how good she would look after the fact. I showed up after the vet appointment and met with her, very friendly staff and they recommenced me how short I should get her hair, as it being my first time, I was not sure what would look the best so I asked for their professional opinion. I left my puppy with her and left, returning a bit later. When I returned at 5 P.M., which is closing time for the store, she told me that it would be around 6:30 pm, due to it taking a little longer than expected. She was still very nice when I spoke to her, even though she was staying after due to me trying to schedule an appointment last minute. So I left and returned a short time later. I arrived at the store at 6:30 P.M. and seen she was still cutting my puppies hair, I did not want to enter the store and cause my puppy to get excited and make her job worse, so I sat in my car and watched. Even though my puppy was being very puppy like, she never got frustrated with my puppy. When she appeared to be done, I went and got my puppy. Even though she was an hour and a half after hours due to my last minute planning, she was very nice and professional. I will defiantly be returning to her and would recommend her to anyone that is skeptical on which groomer they should pick for their puppy or older dog. The best price and experience I could ask for!
