This section of north Berlin is really lively and we found Kyo Grill because of its great reviews…read more We ordered a ton and the value is really there but I thought the food was good to above average. Edamame - warm, soft and lightly salted. Just right. Seaweed salad - standard and good YAKITORI SKEWERS Chicken thigh - good, as expected, just not a head turner Tomato - sizeable and plump. Good charcoal flavor. Zucchini - flavorful and tender but not overdone Shiitake mushroom - regular, needs seasoning Okra - soft and mushy Water chestnut - large sized but then the middle becomes difficult to season - ends up being lots of flavorless water chestnut to chew Chicken meatballs - delicious and well made Nice glaze of teriyaki sauce. Chicken wings - less meat and more work to navigate around the tiny bones Pork - pretty regular Pork with chives - more character - the green onion adds different texture, but without overwhelming the pork flavor Beef tenderloin - good, but pretty regular. Beef and cheese - made with chunks of what I think was mozzarella Lamb - quite overdone and underwhelming - if it's going to be overdone, at least be crispy. Salmon - very tender and succulent. One of the best skewers here, if not the best. Also sampled the Kiyo ramen - nice al dente noodles and good amount of vegetables bathed in a savory stock. Great stop for Japanese that hits the spot. That's all

The atmosphere is beautiful and refined, with a very upscale Japanese vibe that makes the whole evening feel special. From the moment we walked in, the staff were extremely attentive and welcoming. Since we had a reservation, we were seated right away, and our waiter made the night even better. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and gave us fantastic recommendations both for which cuts of meat to order and which sake to pair with them. The quality of the food speaks for itself. Every piece of meat was fresh, perfectly prepared, and cooked exactly how we wanted. The sake pairing took it all to another level. If you're looking for a place in Germany that delivers on service, atmosphere, and exceptional food, Ushido should absolutely be on your list. Highly recommend for a date night, birthday, or any special occasion!

But everything else was immaculate. Prefer the only salt wagyu then in soy sauce marinated wagyu. Every kind of premium was spelling premium on your tongue. Every beef they offered was tasty. Also tried the pork belly which was also nice marinated so that the pork had this smokey unique taste. For side dishes I recommend you to try the karaage and agedashi. Very very delicious!!! For veggies we only picked the pumpkin. Very nice flavor and matched the beef very very well. Fyi: you should book in advance or reserve a table since it's always full. Parking is very hard. This restaurant is more on the pricier side! They have a special grill which doesn't make any sounds unlike Korean barbecue where you can here it sizzling. That's why you don't really smell that strongly after eating. All in all very nice service, super fresh and high quality beef. Worth going!

The interior of the restaurant is simplistic but also grounded in woody/home-y vibes, which makes it welcoming. Not to be dramatic but I had some of the best sashimi ever here (otoro, chutoro, akami and yellowtail - even though I don't normally like yellowtail). The dishes were carefully assembled and plated, and the servers were very attentive the entire meal. Some dishes stood out more than others, and the ones that were most memorable, I've attached pictures of. I can't remember exactly what was in the dish but the one in the blue bowl included eggplant and changed flavors as I ate it, which was a nice, unexpected surprise. At the end of the meal, the owner chatted with every group to gauge everyone's experiences and feedbacks. Overall, a nice first kaiseki experience.

The plates seem small but they add up and you won't leave hungry. I have to say I was a little disappointed that after a year and a half, I returned to find the menu to be largely the same. None the less worth it and a must eat in Berlin.

1909 at ZENKICHI - Japanese restaurant, Berlin…read more We had very high expectations. The place looks amazing, sounds amazing, seems amazing. Every you read about it screams " amazing ". And all the dishes do look amazing. But to me, it didn't taste amazing. I have had lots of Japanese food all over the world. I know quite a lot about it. And this menu had good parts and not so good parts. The amuse-bouche(6 in total) were very nice. Then one dish out of two was very good, the other just medium good. For example, the shabu shabu veal was partially warm and partially still ice cold, so it was obviously not totally dipped into the broth as it should be. But I have to give them the benefit of the doubt on the fact that I am not Japanese and I might not fully comprehend the subtility of some of the courses and therefore misjudge. Still... All in all for 200€ each (392€ bill for 2, we were not fully happy. However I would recommend it for people enjoying traditional Japanese cuisine and I certainly recommend the saké tasting selection which was very nice. And the place looks amazing with all the little alleys and the little dark booths and the excellent service. Oh and DO order the soft shell crab tempura extra. That is always a bliss.

Decided to try something different on our last night in Berlin. Yelp pointed us to Dudu, which…read moredidn't disappoint. Outdoor seating was packed, but pretty much all the (long) tables inside were open. So if it's nice out and you want to sit outside, be prepared to wait. Since almost all the patrons were eating outside, service inside was somewhat slow. Menus were already on the tables, but it took some time to flag down a waiter and get one in English. Food came out in a timely manner, though. Before placing your order, be sure to check out specials on the chalk board! Dudu's menu mainly consisted of a mix of Vietnamese dishes and sushi. Decided to start with dumplings and the starter beef pho. Although both were good, I enjoyed the dumplings more. I liked how the dumpling wrapper wasn't too thick and that it was packed with pork. The dipping sauce went well with the dumplings and wasn't too sour or spicy. I liked how you can order a starter of the pho. It was the perfect size to get a taste of the dish, leaving room for other items on the menu. The small bowl was packed with noodles and beef shavings. The soup itself didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked it to, but it was still good. Our main meal consisted of a variety of rolls that we shared. The salmon avocado and tuna rolls were pretty good, although standard. The fish was fresh and the ratio of fish to fish was good. The crispy yellow roll, one of Dudu's special rolls, was just okay. The roll itself was deep fried and contained avocado and cucumber. Separate from the roll was diced spicy tuna that you were supposed to eat with the roll. If I knew it would came like this, I don't think I would have ordered it. I was over the actual roll pretty quickly, but really enjoyed the spicy tuna. I also tried some of C's "rice for kids", which was a small bowl of soup rice with chicken on top. He quickly ate all the chicken, but left most of the rice. Again, didn't know the rice would be rice mixed in a broth. You could tell the broth had ginger in it as the taste was pretty prominent. Not so sure this is a good idea for a kid's dish...the only kid's meal offered. Price of all the food was reasonable, although pricier than typical meals in Berlin.
