When buying engagement rings, do your research. Diamond prices are complicated, and if you leave…read moreall your trust in a salesman, they can turn your head around and convince you to pay more than you want to. When I went into Kebadjian's, I played dumb to see how honest they would be, and they tried to get me to buy a diamond that was, frankly, bad. Of all the jewelers I met with, Mike was the ultimate salesman that made me feel like a buddy, but he was not someone that I trusted by the end of our meeting. As any jeweler will do, Mike showed me a few different diamonds in my price range. But the largest one, by a very noticeable degree, was one that he called "SI-3" on the Clarity scale. Mike combined this information by reminding me a dozen times that he was one of the first in town to get a GIA certification - trying to boost my trust in him, and confuse the fact that his GIA certification would mean the diamond itself would be GIA certified. (For the uninitiated, if you want to have any trust that your diamond is actually worth what you paid for it, you need to receive a third party certificate from GIA or another reputable lab, or to be a gemologist yourself.) Well, spend 2 minutes on Google, and you'll find that "SI-3" doesn't exist on the GIA rating system. Which means he either would not send it for GIA certification, or that when he did, that would come back as an I-1 or even I-2, not as "SI-3." Those are the bottom of the barrel for clarity, which means the flaws in the diamond are visible to the naked eye. Who wants to pay $10K+ for a diamond any Joe Schmo could tell is bad? His personal GIA credentials had no bearing on making that bad diamond into a good one. Even though the other diamonds he showed me were just fine, I was so turned off he would try this SI-3 move that I walked away. No other jeweler in my shopping showed me an SI-3 diamond. As other reviewers noted, their business is by referral only. My personal opinion is this was just another salesman move in building trust. After all, you already know someone who bought here, so why shouldn't they be trusted? But even putting aside the SI-3 garbage, sitting with Mike for a while completely eroded my trust. He showed me his personal computer and walked me through everyone's engagement ring he had recently worked on, including people I know. There was no anonymity - names were all over the files. Which made me realize that anyone I referred after me would see all the details of my purchase, and maybe even figure out what I paid. While Mike was very friendly and made it seem like he was giving me an "inside scoop" on how his business worked, I just felt like I'd violated other people's trust. I'm not saying everything is bad at Kebadjian's - the jewelry looked great. But be warned that there are salesman moves going on here that might not be in your best interest.

King Jewelers King…read moreJewelers is a family owned, local jeweler near me with almost 100 years of experience. My review is so gushy I might sound affiliated, even though I'm not! King Jewelers is located on Chief Justice Cushing Highway in Cohasset, Massachusetts and after my recent experiences with them, I am confident that they are the best jewelers on the South Shore of Boston. In terms of the coronavirus, their attention to safety during the pandemic has been above and beyond what many South Shore businesses enact and shows incredible care for their customers. After you ring the outside buzzer and it is confirmed you are wearing a mask, you can come in. Immediately upon entering there is a motion activated hand sanitizer dispenser. All employees wear masks and only two people are allowed inside at one time. The King Jewelers family, Valerie, Victoria, June and Melissa, went about the appraisal process with respect, patience and transparency. I went to King Jewelers to have my mother's estate jewelry appraised. The knowledgeable and professional staff at King Jewelers made the process an absolute pleasure. I went in so often, I started to like just dropping by for a visit. They have set appraisal dates with Lori Coogan, their Certified Appraiser but were always kind enough to appraise my estate jewelry as I sorted through the gold, silver, platinum, diamond, sapphires, rubies, aquamarines, pearls and costume jewelry. The entire process was complimentary, efficient and fair. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend King Jewelers as the most trustworthy jewelry business around. In addition to jewelry appraisals their engagement rings are stunning, as are the variety of jewelry collections. I had a diamond ring repaired which came out flawlessly, and they resized several rings for me. Look no further than King Jewelers. You won't be disappointed!

King Jewelers The Good, The Bad, & the Ugly…read more The Good Stopped by King for first time because it was locally owned women's business. I asked them to do a Pearl pin repair, they did a great job 5 out of 5 stars. While there I inquired about a first time lab diamond band , ( perfer natural, but it was kinda impulse buy) and paid $3500.00 . I was, my wife was- a bit shy on "lab"grown, but the salesperson said, yes but they are diamonds". Anyway I did it. The Bad Well that "lab" designation finally got to us on the drive home. After talking about it, I thought it best to trade up to a 10,000 ring mine back plus say $7000 - even if after just 10 days we expected to lose 1500.00 bucks. I was told no by them on taking it back. No to buying it back for $1000. less either. It's is important for future vistors, ask for papers on the rating of the diamonds, none was provided to us, ( lab diamonds also have one) that really seemed wrong. Additionally on the invoice it said no returns on lab diamonds. That would also have been nice to know prior to the purchase, not on a receipt post sale discovery. Ulgy There was push back asking for the lab rating. They needed to see it and per the owner weigh them. I said, so you bought these without that information? She said she knew but I got nothing. I took them the a certified gemologist for appraisal. I'll post results when I get that here next week. I was told as soon as I left the store with the ring , that it was used thereafter. Look, we are reasonable, I'm now spending 10k ( with others) but the fact they saw no value, even at 1000.00 off what is paid 10 days prior, is ugly. The fact there is no lab diamonds can't be returned sign, or conversation is ugly. The fact I wanted to do business with a locally owned woman's business, but was met with no compromise is ugly. Happy to be going elsewhere. Buyer beware ... I accept the loss, but can't get passed how it all went down. Never again -------- Response to your response Response to your response -------- The ring comparisons were only meant to give you idea of style not price we desired to buy at. My goodness, even the on line give grade of stone ... Zero from you. I offered to buy a 10,000 ring. AND as noted take a 1000-1500 loss on a ring 10 days unworn ( except out of store) . I have the emails on all of this - but forget about it, you twisted the facts in your order. Yes we did go get an independent appraisal by the same person you use . This after you FAILED to be able to tell me anything about the quality of the ring you purchased for resale. You said to me, bring it in, we can examine it and weigh it... How do you buy goods for resale without that. Maybe if I had it at point of purchase I would not have done it. I'm sure you knew the grade at time you bought it... Why not share it. Finally there was no mention about no returns on lab diamonds , no sign in store, no sales information to buyer, yes, thanks for the information on the receipt after the sale. Bottom line, I don't carry if you have been in business 200years, the satisfaction given us was zero... And I clearly offered to take a loss on return . I hope others read the string and see something of a new set of questions one shouldn't have to ask in a trusted relationship. I take full responsibility for selecting the ring, I just will go elsewhere for better information and rules at POS. End of review and rebuttal.
