Thom Duma is a gem in the Mahoning Valley…read more My family recently had a big milestone in our family business, and we decided to mark the occasion with some timepieces. I met with Santino, and he took the time to learn about our tastes and let us try on several different Rolex models. When we decided what we liked, he set realistic timeframes and let us know he would call us when they became available. We got the call sooner than expected. When we picked up the watches, Santino made the whole afternoon an experience. This level of personalization doesn't happen in the big chain stores, you need to trust your local mom & pop jeweler with really going above and beyond. We have a big wedding anniversary coming up soon, and I know Thom Duma will put the same level of care for this day as well.

My husband (boyfriend at the time) went here to custom build the ring he used for our engagement…read moreand it was amazing! He (sneakily) got a picture of a ring I adored from a friend of mine and brought it in here (I promise I knew nothing about it!). Barba Fine Jewelers did an absolutely amazing job, and even educated him on how to buy a ring properly. The first two times he went in, he was shown various kinds of diamonds and quality so he would know how to shop around if he wanted to. Being the kind of guy he is, he shopped around and realized how many jewelers were trying to rip him off. BFJ went out of their way to build the ring beautifully and at a very good value. It was so good we bought my wedding band as well as my husband's wedding ring there, too. When I went in to buy the wedding band Bill, the owner even taught me a few things I didn't know about taking care of a ring (like how being in a pool with your ring makes the diamonds more likely to fall off). I cannot emphasize how patient and wonderful they were with my now husband! He knew nothing about rings before he went here (Example: he didn't know he was supposed to buy a band, too. lol) and by the time he left he was confident knowing he got a great value.

Stopped at Second Chances Antique Gallery in Warren to see what interesting things I could find…read more From the outside it Second Chances doesn't look like much, but once you get inside it is impressive; there are 3 rooms of a wide variety of stuff. Lots of variety, collectibles, antiques, instruments, toys, and just about anything you could be looking for. Talking to the owner I found out that he had recently bought out the previous owner and was getting things organized and cleaned up. I was impressed with the wooden masks and assorted carvings they had; most were very high quality and vintage. The back room has a wide variety of items, from the usual flea market trinkets to really nice items. I found a really cool walking stick with a hatchet head, it was unpriced and the owner was great about negotiating a fair price. Overall I was very impressed with the variety and selection at Second Chance, well worth the drive. The new owner was very friendly and willing to deal. If you are looking for something vintage or antique go and check them out.
