I felt welcomed and everyone there were all really cool guys who were extremely knowledgeable and helped me with technique, positoning, they all literally answered every question I had! The only reason I give 4 starts is because there is a 40$ drop in fee which after buying a rash guard to support the gym means 95$ for a class and a souvenir. I'd love to go again but at that price it just is too much for me unfortunately but I would 100% pop in for a class again next time I'm down here! Thanks everyone in the class for helping me out and making me feel comfortable on my first ever drop in to a gym!

My son recently became interested in wrestling, and this gym offers the MOCCA program for both boys…read moreand girls of all ages. Practices are held three evenings a week, and you can either pay per session or purchase a monthly pass. For first-time participants, they provide wrestling shoes, but if your child plans to continue, it's definitely worth investing in a pair. The facility itself is impressive. The building is enormous, with three full-size wrestling mat areas, a raised wrestling ring, a large fitness area with equipment, locker rooms, and an uncomfortable seating area for parents. They also have a water bottle refill station, which is much appreciated because the kids work incredibly hard. My son was absolutely exhausted by the end of practice. The class structure, however, could be improved for beginners. Everyone starts together with about 15 minutes of warm-ups, followed by a demonstration of a wrestling move. After that, the younger wrestlers move to another mat and pair off to practice. One challenge for first-time families is that it's difficult to identify who the instructors are. Having coaches wear identifiable shirts would make it much easier to know who to approach with questions. I also felt that the techniques introduced were fairly advanced for newcomers. It would be helpful to start with simpler fundamental moves while spending more time explaining the purpose and mechanics behind each technique. Every 10 minutes or so, a whistle brings everyone back together for another demonstration before they rotate back to practicing. This cycle repeats several times before open wrestling begins. For beginners, I would probably recommend sitting out the open wrestling portion. Wrestlers are paired rather freely, and it can be overwhelming for someone attending their first few practices. Overall, I think the program would benefit from offering a dedicated beginner class before introducing new wrestlers into the regular sessions. That said, one thing that really stood out was how welcoming and encouraging the older participants were. Many of them took the time to help the younger wrestlers learn the techniques, creating a supportive atmosphere that made the experience a positive one despite the steep learning curve.

I was introduced to the instructor by a friend. Marcelo Silveira is a high ranking black belt and one of the original founders of American Top Team. Jiu jitus is a very physically demanding sport. It's also inhabited by a lot of rough trade. Its not for the weak of heart. There is a lot of hazing, bullying, ranks and cliques. You expect that going in. You learn to survive and hold your own. Its combat sports, not needle knitting. Lots of egos and attitudes. For 8 years I was a loyal student. I fought and competed and represented the school and my teammates. I tolerated the non-stop hazing. The homophobic slurs and name calling. The insults. I never complained. I went from white belt to purple belt in 8 years. During the 8 years I watched the instructor mistreat and abuse several students with years of history. Attempt to sleep with female students. Throw people out for one perceived slight or another. At one point I was suspended for not coming to class. The instructor told everyone he didnt care who had to work. If you miss class your out. Oct 6 I was rolling with the instructor and he purposely ripped my arm over my head with no warning and no opportunity to tap. My pec was torn off the bone, Torn bicep, torn rotator, permanent damage to the shoulder joint. It only went downhill from there. Tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills. 4-6 months of rehab 3-4 months I cant work. The arrogance of the instructor. No insurance. No business license. I had paid money for privates and even paid money in advance for a seminar which he has refused to return. He doesnt care about his students in the least. This man is a menace. He shouldnt be teaching anywhere. I started talking to other members in the community. This is not an isolated incident. There is a long history of this. He is known for this. Most everyone in the community stopped dealing with him years ago for his antics and behavior. This is why he has no students. This isnt sour grapes. Im not a white-belt. I was a senior student with a perfect record of conduct on the mats. A loyal teammate and one of his best students. I trusted this man as my coach and instructor and spent 8 years working my ass off and putting up with so much drama and disrespect. As a professional coach of over 30 years I am disgusted. This man uses jiu jitsu as an excuse to mistreat and abuse people. He holds jiu jitsu over peoples heads. Ive been a business owner and member of the Boca Raton community since 2009. I stand by my statements. He shouldnt be teaching. He's a low life excuse for a human. Beware.

He doesn't go on and on rolling on floor to show you 100 times how to apply it causing confusion due to he puts fourth effort in his explanation as to why needed in the beginning that by the time you practice you are catching on. Reason being he takes just a minute to explain it at least and when to apply it in the sport or self defense. I really like the way he teaches as BJJ is not the easiest sport to catch on too. I heard from previous members that were friends that he is a great teacher but didn't want to believe it due to my past experiences so I am extremely happy with my new journey. Mauy Thai. We were looking for strong competition training, real structure, solid belt progression, and a culture that would help him grow both on and off the mat. From the moment we walked into Gracie Barra Boca, we felt the difference. The environment was organized, professional, focused, and positive. We were warmly welcomed, introduced to Enzo & the coaches, and my son immediately felt comfortable and at home. I love that they had my son sign his own contract. That is super empowering & teaches accountability. What has stood out most is how knowledgeable the coaches are and how clearly they teach technique. They break down skills in a way that makes sense, correct mistakes quickly, and truly pay attention to detail. You can tell they know what they are doing and care about developing strong athletes. My son had a tough first competition experience at his previous school that shook his confidence. The move he lost on stuck with him. By day three at Gracie Barra Boca, that exact move had already been corrected and sharpened. Three days. The level of instruction and focus is impressive. In just a few days, his confidence has already shifted. He walks in proud & excited. He feels capable. He loves being there. I've noticed his confidence spread out into other things in his life from being here. If you are looking for a BJJ school that builds confident competitors, teaches discipline, and provides structured, high level training, Gracie Barra Boca is it. Being a girl it can get a little intimidating going against men but intimidation leaves your mind immediately. You become confident and strong. BJJ is so worth learning especially as a women. You learn to take control and use techniques that will help you get out of a harmful situation. In the real world you are not only going to defend yourself against women so training with men has benefited me. I knew absolutely nothing about BJJ when I started and here I am progressing slowly and almost reaching my blue belt. The gym is spacious and very clean. Great mats to practice your techniques/drills and roll. The minute you walk in you feel welcomed, everyone is encouraging and motivating you to get better. Everyone truly treats you like family. Our professor Nei and his family are amazing. They are always happy to see you and are rooting for you. They want you to progress and improve. They make a strong point to ensure people don't get hurt, the upper belts are amazingly helpful and kind and even when practicing with them, they stop as needed and walk you through what to do and how to do it right. They'll also stop you when you're heading towards inadvertently getting yourself hurt. I love that the professor (instructor) calls out "listen everyone, we're going to take this one slowly and carefully. This is not a competition, this is a random Tuesday night and no one is winning a prize for getting hurt, so let's go slow and careful". Alliance has really outstanding instructors and upper belts. A number of times I had what I thought was a silly question but never felt silly asking. They take all the time needed to walk through whatever is needed slowly and repeatedly to make sure everyone understands and feels comfortable. The workout is amazing but very doable. An hour class works way more of my body than any workout at a gym and as a bonus, I'm learning how to defend myself at the same time. I've dabbled with other martial arts but felt like I wouldn't really be effective in a street scenario for a long time, but BJJ is the opposite. After the first couple of months, I feel like I know enough that I'd at least be able to stop and contain most untrained people in a street scenario. Really great confidence boost. Overall, if you're considering taking Jiu Jitsu or just want a full body workout that will leave you wiped, but wanting more, this is the place to go. It's a family owned business that really does care about the students and helps everyone progress at the right pace for them.
