It's a really cool designed building. It has squares and spheres coming together with terra cotta tiles in an Iberian-Renaissance style, which matches San Antonio's Spanish roots. Spain is one of the six flags that has flown over Texas, after all! They have Jewish services, with a great Torah that they bring out occasionally. It's magnificent. First off, this isn't a review of the synagogue itself. It is a review of their mikva, which is…read moreritual bath Jews use to cleanse themselves in a ritual immersion. See a full description at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikva Women use the mikva after their menstrual cycle or childbirth (women are so unclean). Men use it before they get married. They both use it before converting to Judaism, which is why we were there. We were there to dunk my daughters in the mikva before a short conversion ceremony in the sanctuary (now my wife is the only non-Jew in the family). In some other areas of the country (L.A. and New York), we might not have been welcomed there because we are not Orthodox, but Rodfei is pretty open. We had to laugh when we realized my oldest, Samantha, had brought Piglet with her. Our rabbi told Sam she could dunk her in the mikva also, but none of us wanted to get her wet. So, Piglet is still a shiksa. I got into the water with the girls and dunked them one by one, with the rabbi directing the activity and two of our synagogue's regulars witnessing. Sam loved the warm water, but Charlie (one year old) got very upset when she got dunked. The pool was clean and well maintained, but the thing I really liked was that the Orthodox synagogue let a bunch of Conservative Jews in to do their thing.

I think I have attended all possible masses; the weekday 7 am, noon and evening; Saturday evening; Sunday 8:30 am, 10:30 am and noon. The largest attended mass is the 10:30 am on Sunday. The two main priests are Fr. Guidon and Fr. Leopold. Their homilies are never just read off a paper but spoken through a conversation that reaches my heart and stays with me the entire week. Their church director, Joel B, runs not only a beautiful sounding choir but also a flawless mass. He works with the lectors, Eucharist ministers and the alter servers tirelessly to provide the church community with a perfect celebration of the Eucharist. This community is very welcoming and has a strong Teen ACTS group. The church also provides a rosary group, bible studies and adoration at any time.

I don't practice, I don't go unless it's for major events (Easter, Christmas, Weddings, and Funerals), and overall, it's... not my thing. But my parents are very devout practicing Catholics, and while I don't HAVE to, I bring them to mass at St. Matthew's when they are in town, and they absolutely love it. So, this review is on their behalf. Traffic and parking are well directed and managed, and they have many masses to choose from for you to attend. Their church bulletin in and of itself is a novel (according to Mom), and everyone is very polite, respectful, and serene. The church itself is beautiful, and everyone we've heard speak felt genuine. It's an excellent "church away from church" for my parents, and they are always excited to celebrate mass with the congregation at St. Matthew's.

As a fervent Catholic myself I enjoy noon Holy Mass which is very beautiful to attend. Little Flower was built during the time of the Cristeros in Mexico, when a lot of faithful moved to USA to avoid persecution. It was a time that St. Thérèse of Lisieux teachings of the Catholic faith was spreading all over the country. Little Flower was built during The Great Depression and was a haven of faith, hope, and love during the time of trials for the USA. Discalced Carmelite Friars are the ones that serve the community and uphold the traditions for Little Flower. It was a great honor to attend Holy Mass especially because my entire childhood I spent going with my Mom and siblings to this Little Flower Basilica. I gazed at The Holy Face of Jesus and thought it was the biggest Church I ever seen. I remember going to Confession here as a child as well. Great memories that are stored forever in my mind and heart. I highly recommend you take a visit and enjoy all the marvels of the design and architecture, when Pope John Paul II visited San Antonio he came to Little Flower Basilica. That was on September 13, 1987, it was the largest Holy Mass celebrated in Texas history. I can definitely go on and on about my love for the Catholic faith and Little Flower, it is definitely a place you would enjoy to attend Holy Mass or visit. My non-religious peeps have told me that it's absolutely stunning and actually makes them contemplate about God. Take your friends! Take your Family! Take your Beloved! You will be pleasantly surprised! :) P.S. They have a Little Flower Store and there are a ton of really neat things to buy for friends, family, and loved ones. I tend to try to calm down or I'll take the whole store :)
