I brought my 10 year old son over on one of the ferry's from Crisfield to visit Smith Island this…read morepast weekend, we stayed at the Smith Island Motel with Allen and Dory as our hosts. My boy loved the boat ride over, and just about every second of it except for leaving. Allen took us fishing and we caught Rockfish (my sons first Rock), Drum, and trout. Dory made us homemade pizza and a wonderful breakfast with eggs and scrapple. The photo's and memories we made will be with us forever even though we were only there for a night. If you want to experience true Smith Island living for a little while this is where to go and the right people to be with. If you haven't been to Smith Island read up on it a little ahead so you know what to expect, time stands still here but that is the entire point of going. Ask a lot of questions and learn, your hosts will be proud and happy to talk to you about the Island We are already planning a trip back in the spring!

The room was clean and comfortable. I loved learning about the crabbing business. I definitely have a better appreciation of it and will never again complain about the price of them on the menu. They are worth every penny and then some. These guys work really hard. Smith Island is enchanting and is definitely a place worth coming back to when one wants to escape the everyday life of work, consumerism, traffic, and the like. Everyone on the Island both at Ewell and Tylerton were so warm and welcoming. I've never experienced anything like this before. I was there for the 4th of July weekend and it experienced a bit of Americana with the kids parading in their decorated bikes and the adults in the golf carts. Dory made sure that I enjoyed all the festivities taking place on the island. She is definitely the hostess with the mostest.

You should know all rooms are on either the second or third floor, accessed by steps only, and…read morethere is no one there to help with your luggage. You reach the second floor via steep, narrow steps (about 30) with one hand rail. Assume third floor is similar. Not senior citizen friendly. And don't believe the description that says there is a chair lift. During our stay, my wife slipped on about the fifth step from the top and tumbled to the bottom. Fortunately she survived the fall, with some damage to her knee and bruising all over. Local rescue squad was prompt and professional. Ownership never reached out to us which is disappointing. We will find somewhere else to stay on our frequent visits to the Shore.

Where before a breakfast was included each morning of your stay, you now are offered 15% off you breakfast, but more on that later. The dining area is a fraction its former charm, but still charming. The dinner menu is pretty good and both of our dinners each night of our stay there were excellent. For this reason I have given two stars. It would be impossible to say the same about breakfast. In one location, an 8AM breakfast opening was listed. Our Welcome Letter stated 830AM was the opening time. Neither time mattered, because on both mornings the Breakfast service wasn't even open. The entry to it was locked up like an after hours NYC Subway entrance. Saturday morning no human being could be found. We even went back at 10AM to see if it had opened yet, with no change. Sunday morning it was locked up, but there a woman behind the bar to give our key to as we checked out. On both mornings we had breakfast elsewhere. We stay at the hotel for special occasions, and this stay was no exception. Staying at the Charlotte Hotel and not having to leave it was always something we appreciated and looked forward to during the previous dozen or so times we had stayed there before. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be coming back.

HBO was advertised, but many of the cable/ premium channels didn't work. The internet was also spotty. The TV in the room had Netflix on it so you could sign in, but the net kept cutting out literally ever 1 min 30 seconds. The floors are hardwood and were really dusty. walking barefoot i could feel every single grain on the floor. The bathroom/ sink area were cool. coffe machine on the sink. microwave and mini fridge in room. The beds were pretty hard to sleep on. Breakfast was highly undesireable. The man who was putting food out, placed biscuits out with his bare hands. Mind you, he was also the receptionist. The food area is really small with 1 tv. Coffee is available, water was not. OJ was in a jug. There was a waffle maker, some cereal, bagels and muffins to choose from. The butter was the squeezable kind (yikes) and we all shared the cream cheese out of the tub. The bagel/ toaster barely toasted anything. Check out is at 11. We were granted late check out at 1130. The receptionist came around at 11:15 asking if we were leaving.. smh. Of course, we were running late than 11 so we asked for the late check out. That was pretty annoying. Cleaning kitchen supplies were right behind the counter for the breakfast food, smh. The pool is out front of the lobby and looks a hot mess right now. Its January but the pool has black looking filled water in it and the chairs seem to be all thrown about. There was a McDonalds, Burger King, Food Lion, Gas Station nearby. I would rather stay in Salisbury next time for an upgraded hotel/motel stay for the night.

Decent clean rooms. Had fresh towels without asking. The TV wasn't so good. They didn't have cable…read more Just the Vizio channels and access to paid services.
