Took my aunt there. Office is very nice but not ADA accessible. It's technically a basement office. Dr. Lucente is nice and caring but doesn't spend much that much time with patients. His office is starting to drop certain insurance companies so ask before you book an appointment. We didn't like how they clean teeth---too much water in the device. You feel like you are going to drown. Not our cup of tea. read more

I am someone who hates going to the dentist, but today, dare I say I actually enjoyed it! The staff here are an absolute delight, and from the greeting to the goodbye, everyone was incredible. The hygienist made me super comfortable while cleaning, and checked in with me every few minutes to make sure I was doing OK. Dr.Lucente is very friendly and communicated clearly about my oral health. I was sent right away when I arrived, and my teeth feel brand new. The office was clean and calming, with a humidifier and music on. I really enjoyed my visit for my cleaning today and would recommend Dr.Lucente to anyone who needs a new dentist, is tired of being sold things to by their current dentist, or is timid about going to the dentist, like myself. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. I came in with a concern for my bottom teeth which were turning yellow. I found out it wasn't my teeth (to my relief) but the leftover cement from my braces years prior. The hygienist helped me remove it and my teeth are already look brighter. I felt heard and the staff is very welcoming and takes the time to listen to concerns without quickly rushing to the next patient. read more

Had an amazing experience on my visit to Dr. Lucente's dental office. I was met with the warmest welcome by the front desk receptionist who smiled the entire time I spoke with her. Going down the stairs to be seated for my appointment, their office space felt inviting and calmness came over me. As you know, visiting a dentist can be daunting for many. The walls were lined with portrait decals of clouds and natural landscapes. I went in for a general check up/cleaning and I left cleansed orally and spiritually. Ah...Stop putting tools on female patients' chests? I wrote a review about that but it must have been moved to unrecommended. Long story short, the first few times were fine. Then one day, he started to rest his dental tools on my chest and grabbing them off my chest. That was the last time he saw me. Females and males, please be cautious! Go at your own risk! But honestly, why would you give yourself that headache in addition to the toothache you may have? (Read the "Not Recommended Reviews" you will see my review and his response where he admitted to what he did. I chipped my front tooth very slightly and wanted to speak to a dentist about options. I have no so great dental insurance, so I asked some co-workers for some recommendations and was sent to Dr. Lucent. He quickly looked at the little chip in my tooth and said we could put a small bit of bonder (I think) on it. I was dubious as my co workers said I'd be better off with a cosmetic, not general, dentist, but he explained that general dentists can fix small chips, and I don't need bigger cosmetic surgery. He quickly repaired the tooth. Looks great! I was due for a cleaning, so he took x-rays and cleaned my teeth. The cleaning was very thorough.. He used the little scrape-y thing... A lot of dentists don't use it anymore, but I like it. He seemed detail oriented with the cleaning, but quick as well. Since my visit a piece of my bonder/resin has fallen off.... but I take completely responsibility for that. While I was in the chair, he asked if he should file the extra resin off, and I said it felt fine... knowing full well that it didn't. I wouldn't hesitate to have him go back and replace the piece. The dentist was great. The receptionist was super cute and bubbly. The hygienist was dour and had a bit of an attitude. Not sure what her issue was... maybe a bad day, but I'm subtracting 1 star for her attitude. :-p read more

First off dr lucente is a lovely man. And efficient. Its a tidy small practice. Seeing him in the nick of time saved my molar which was really in trouble after i ignored a broken filling through half my pregnancy. Also Convenient from where i live in brooklyn but for all these good things- as someone who paid out of pocket i have some gripes. Not "affordable" : the banner ad on his site says affordable family dentistry but they charge $250 for a single filling. one consultation and filling with no cleaning is $350 i believe. Plus x rays? I got a temp fillling then came back and... Yikes Amalgam! The filling he was giving me turned out to be amalgam. I was caught off guard to learn the filling was "silver" It was awkward. I asked if the "silver" didnt have mercury anymore. Dr lucente misinformed me that the amalgam filling was only "a tiny percent mercury" after I stated my reservations and explained i had left my previous very affordable dental practice because of the metal fillings (and they only charged $50 for amalgam fillings) and mentioned i had gone so far as to have two such fillings taken out and replaced with composite for health reasons. Awkward: After dismissing my concerns and assuring me that he is a teacher and there are no health effects he then did offer to do composite by saying "it sounds like you want the white one" he was professional but his tone and and expression were annoyed and he said the composite would not be good for a molar - said molars need metal filling. So after struggling with it a min i agreed. I just wanted to save the tooth and get it over with and go to my baby. I know Its my fault that i agreed and trusted his assessment without verifying the claims these were low mercury and harmless. Later that day Worried about the impact on my breastfed baby after leaving i leaened the filling is actually 50 percent mercury. Yikes. Fifty percent. Not a tiny bit. Half. Great. Now im stressed about the baby and my brain. I told my swedish neighbor about it she winced: "those fillings are illegal in sweden" and the next friend told me her dental practice stopped using them 10 years ago. Ugh. Ok. Buyer beware: If you like amalgam thats fine but if you have any concerns Please do your own research instead of getting blindsided in the chair when its too late to research. $250 is a lot of money to pay for a metal filling that you might regret. Dr lucente is very nice and efficient but there are more affordable dentists around and at this price point there are many more options available to you. Know what they are. If you come and want composite tell him up front to avoid the awkward scenario i had. read more

The best dentist experience I've had! I have a really tight schedule so I was only available at a specific time, but the receptionist squeezed me in. So you can imagine I was nervous about the wait. However they were ready for me when I showed up. The xrays were quick. Then the dentist was so efficient! I had absolutely no pain and he fixed my tooth really quickly. Then I had a teeth cleaning by the dental hygienist and I was out the door within an hour and a half. Anywhere else I would have had to return later to see the dentist after the xrays and the teeth cleaning would have been scheduled another day or I would have been in the waiting room another hour until she was freed up. read more

Dr. Lucente is the consummate professional. He is prompt, courteous and brings a certain comforting charisma to what can otherwise be a fairly tedious procedure. He is very confident in his abilities, and as a relatively new patient, I can see why. His office staff is also very friendly and welcoming, from the smiling hello to the movies playing in the waiting room. I'd recommend a visit to anyone, for any variety of reasons. I've been with Dr. Lucente for some time now and I can say he is a really great dentist. He is professional, kind, and affordable as far as dentists go. He truly does his best to keep all of his appointments on time and to keep his patients comfortable. Dr. Lucente is also a conservative dentist. What i mean by that is he will see you for your appointment, give you his professional opinion along with various treatment options and he will let you decide what is best route for you without forcing a treatment on you. A lot of dentist are quick to tell you something needs to be done so they can make an extra buck, so you can be rest assured that Dr. Lucente won't give you that extraction unless it's necessary, or unless you agree to just get it done. Overall, Dr. Lucente is a skilled pro. His office is also open on Saturdays, which is a plus, and his staff is awesome! read more

Dr. Lucente is not only a caring and great doctor, he is gentle and makes coming to the dentist a non-traumatic experience. I have came to him many, many times to deal with my dental health and I have no complaints whatsoever. Once I get to the office, I am warmly welcomed and my waiting time is always less than 5 minutes. Before any procedure, Dr. Lucente explains it and asks if I feel comfortable with it. Dr. Lucente works very well and efficiently. I wanted my metal fillings removed and made into white fillings and he did such a great job. Dr. Lucente is very gentle and considerate of his patients feelings. I was 18 last summer as he worked on my fillings. i was 18 and crying because my tooth was sensitive to the drill. He stopped and asked if i was okay, and added a bit more anesthesia. Throughout the whole process he made sure i was comfortable and not in pain. when the fillings needed to be shaped to be at level with the tooth, i would tell him it felt higher on a certain point. He would fix it until i could close my mouth and bite down without feeling the filling. Dr. Lucente is a great dentist! I highly recommend him. read more

Great experience at my last visit (including the fact that I did not have any cavities). Both Dr. Lucente and my hygienist (Alma, I believe...I hope I didn't get it wrong!) were very friendly and very good at what they did. The reception staff were lovely as well, greeting me immediately. The office called to remind me of my appointment, and I had set up the text message reminders, which worked well. I also thoroughly enjoyed the wallpaper in the reception area, which was nice to see, unlike the stereotypically sterile-looking environment of most dental offices I've been to. They offer Saturday appointments, which is very helpful for anyone who isn't sure they can manipulate their work hours around their dental needs. If you're looking for a dentist on the east side, I would highly recommend Dr. Lucente and his staff. Had my first appt. today as a new patient, having heard good things. Both the receptionist and dental assistant were nice and attentive. Dr. Lucente is also a very kind man who made me feel at ease, wanted to know if I had any questions for him, and most importantly, cleaned my sensitive-ass teeth without there being any more pain than I would give myself flossing. That's quite hard to find honestly, having been to a number of dentists around the city- usually there's a decent amount of cringing and flinching for me, but barely any pinches this time. Also there were cool Halloween decorations, a tv by the dentist's chair to distract you during the process, and it's right across from a pretty community garden, I left feeling a lot better. 11 out of 10 Jeff Goldblums for this practice. read more

I went there to check on a molar that was hurting. They suggested a cleaning and I did. Then Dr Lucente came, he very courteous and gentle and I felt very comfortable with him. I told about my pain and he took some XRays and told me that it would probably go away with the cleaning. Well, I went to another dentist in December because I was out of the country and I was still having pain. He figured out that I had an infection and my tooth was broken. I love this dental office! Everyone from the receptionist, hygienist, to the doc himself are so kind and knowledgeable. I don't have the best insurance but his office consistently treat me like an A-lister. Being in NYC where money particularly rules the world, I don't have enough words to say. I live in Astoria so his office is a little far for me, on an appt where I run late the receptionists are still so understanding. Dr. Lucente is very thorough and remembers all the notes from my last appt (no small feat for any medical professional even if they take the best notes). I have been a loyal patient of over 7 years and find Dr. Lucente to be an good practitioner. As long as you make your appointment, show up timely, and provide proper insurance information you visit goes smooth otherwise you create your own problems. I went to Dr. Lucente's office because a friend had recommended him to me. I got two cavities filled the same day on two opposite sides. Usually something that typically isn't recommended to do on the same day. However, the procedure was more than fine, I was in and out within the hour, and felt no discomfort at all. Dr. Lucente is a pleasure to deal with. I came in for a cleaning and it had been forever since my last. I was afraid to go because a previous dentist basically robbed me of 500 bucks for X-rays and such. Dr. Lucente and his staff assured me the X-rays were covered, and they were. Since it had been so long he suggested a deep cleaning, and said he would try to get my insurance to cover it... His office got it covered and I came back in for a deep cleaning, and I also had a chipped tooth, which he evened out and fixed for free. My mouth looks awesome! I saw Dr. Lucente this summer for a cleaning and x-rays. I think the cost was less than $200 (summer special). I never use this adjective to describe my dental experience but Dr. Lucente was awesome! The cleaning was painless. The x-ray techs were gentle with taking the x-rays, always making sure I was comfortable. And the best part, was kicking back in Dr. Lucente's chair as he worked his magic on my pearly whites! I highly recommend, Dr. Lucente. I'm not a person that is afraid of the dentist...however, I have SUPER sensitive teeth and when I first moved to NYC five years ago I had a dental experience that was pretty unpleasant...Therefore, slightly traumatized and in need of a dentist, a colleague recommended Dr. Lucente to me. OMG what a great recommendation. He is a very gentle and patient dentist. Dr. Lucente does solid work and is very receptive to your concerns, questions etc. I have a hypochondriac streak and Dr. Lucente does not rush you. I've been back about three times, for regular check-ups and cleaning and one filling for a cavity. My insurance is crap but I'm super x infinity glad that Dr. Lucente is still in my network, because he is great: patient and very gentle, and always explains and listens to you regarding your teeth. Once, I had another doctor/hygienist (EDIT: her name is Alma!) clean my teeth, but she was really careful too! The cavity fill was not my favorite event, but it was the best it could be under Dr. L. The staff is still professional and nice. I've thought that if my insurance becomes even crappier, I would absolutely pay out of pocket to come here. No joke. read more

Went to Dr. Lucente's for an emergency filling on a Saturday. Even as a walk-in,I didnt have to wait very long and he was very nice and professional. A few days after I was still having some pain with the tooth and when I came back he tried one more option to save the tooth instead of pushing me to a root canal like many other dentists have done in the past. It worked! Have since been back for a cleaning and another cosmetic fix to a previous filling, he is incredibly meticulous and very patient. The entire staff is very nice, and the office is clean. I rarely write reviews, but its not so common to have pleasant experiences at the dentist, so I felt it was well deserved. :) read more
