It's a really friendly salon and you are immediately put at ease from when you are greeted at the door. You have a consultation each appt before your hair is washed so they can find out exactly you want. It's recently been refurbished and the new colour scheme is really relaxing and it's bliss to spend an hour or so there having your hair done.

I had Ben as my hairdresser and I have to say, he has been the best hairdresser I've ever had. When you get the wash, you get a scalp massage with peppermint-- it was fantastic! You can tell he really cares about the customers and has been doing this for while. He gave me suggestions as to what would be best according to my hair style. Suggestion; If you go on the weekend, arrive early cause parking is on the street and didn't had many spots. Overall, I will definitely return.

He gave me some good ideas on what I can do with my hair and was honest about what he could achieve. On the down side I didn't find it very easy to make an appointment. The salon has moved premises and 118 gave me the wrong phone number so i looked in the phone book and then went to the wrong address which was frustrating. This isn;t a cheap salon and I did get carried away with the products that he recommended but all in all I thought it was well worth it and my hair looks great.

Reasonable prices (approx £25 for a full cut and blowdry - those this differs upon requirements), and a stack full of old magazines to keep your entertained whilst you wait. Appointments do need to be made (although they are very flexible if you go in an ask) and generally the staff have a very good idea of the styles that will and won't suit you.

Got my hair done and it was so bad I went home and cried before having to wash it and redo it myself. Everything about the experience was awful, I feel so let down after being reassured they knew what they were doing. Would give 0 Stars if I could. After telling some friends about my experience, one said she also had the same experience there and that they ruined her hair. Wish I had known that before I went.

The lady I saw(Gemma) took her time to understand my routine and what I wanted to change and why. The complementary head massage was to die for (I couldve fallen asleep!) and the cut was lovely. Love this place first of all because of it's ethos - which is to be as environmentally friendly as…read morepossible AND they only use Aveda products. The owner is passionate about this and seems to be 'genuinely about' being a business that makes much less of an impact on the earth! I've used the salon for haircuts and highlights, both of which have been really good and skillfully done. I also feel that they take the time to understand what you want and then work on getting it right. You get complimentary drinks, snacks and a head massage - which all add to the experience. The only thing I would say is that you need to be careful about what you are being charged for - eg. you are generally asked if you want a blow dry, but it's not clear from the question that they will charge extra for this. This is standard practice in Aveda salons, so I knew it would be an extra charge when I was asked - but a friend of mine (who had never been to an Aveda salon before) did get caught out. But don't let that put you off as it's a really good hairdressers. Up till now I've been visiting the Aveda Institute in London (I work in London), but will be switching the Essence!
