We came back later for some drinks and the serving girls were a little rude to us. I asked if we could sit anywhere, and she'd say yes, even when a table was reserved. Her colleague appeared later and scolded us for sitting at a reserved table. I tried to explain that her colleague told us it was ok and made some joke about something and they both kind of reacted sour to us. Maybe they had a tough day, but hey, it wasn't our fault was it? And there was plenty of seating still left, we only wanted a drink and play a game, so we would be gone in time before dinner anyway. That kind of dampend the whole experience. I would like to try out their evening menu though. Hope the girls are a little more in a good mood that day ;) maybe pregnant ladies piss them off, I have no idea :D The play yard is nice though. It was pointed out that the beer prices are actually very reasonable (I don't notice if work is paying...). The service was prompt and friendly - no easy feat in Amsterdam! The chef kindly accommodated my weird request to have polenta with my steak instead of fries and wow was I glad he did! The steak was good quality and served with a variety of veg. It could have done with a tad more seasoning or more of the red wine jus it came with, but overall, delightful. The polenta was amazing! It is fried, so no health points here but the crispy outside with a creamy centre - I think there was a hint of parmasan in there - was divine. Later in the meal, the chef got creative with dessert, giving me both white and dark chocolate cake. What more could a girl ask for? I'm glad I gave Oliver's a second chance. We had a great conversation with the manager Halpert after our meal and it's clear that Oliver's and Co. take customer service very seriously. We are at the bar since it was such a warm evening and all the outdoor seating was full, but, this meant we got excellent service by the bartender since we were the only ones eating at the bar. The food was overall good, the lamb dish wasn't my favorite, that was the duck, but my husband really liked the lamb. I liked the portion sizes, just right, so you can enjoy all 5 courses without feeling overly stuffed.
