I read lots of reviews for all sort of things and am very grateful to people who write informative reviews and make life easier for the rest of us. Here I am giving up my usual "too busy" excuse and struggling to describe the man and his art. Why? Because he can help you. Rod is unequivocally the most accomplished massage therapist I have ever met. His 21 years of experience really shows in technical aspects of his work. I am a physician specializing in diagnostics and can expertly attest that he KNOWS the human body: lymph node chains, fascial planes, musculo-tendinous junctions, ligamentous attachments, neuro-vascular bundles -- he gets it. He is very humble about his qualifications. I had been his client for the last year and had to extract the details of his training piece by piece (Chinese meridians, Thai stretches, Shiatsu pressure points, Swedish deep tissue, and many many others which will send you straight to google for verification if you like learning new things). He is versatile in so many massage techniques that his methods are never redundant. He gives his all at every session. He is intuitive and has a breadth of life experience to easily connect with high anxiety and soporifically fatigued visitors. I stumbled upon Rod Cain Massage after researching local massage therapists in the area to help me work through some significant muscle tension and pain from muscle spasms. As an OR the last 17 years, I've had chronic back pain and various pulled muscles which have necessitated treatment in one form or another at times. I have received numerous massages from therapists (locally and while traveling domestically and internationally) and I can honestly say that the massage I had from Rick was one of the most therapeutic massages I've ever had in my life. My husband and I booked a 90 minute couples massage on 2/28/20. We planned on skiing hard for 3 days straight and knew our bodies would enjoy a massage after that! I contacted Rod through the yelp app directly. He was quick to reply and booked us an appointment, very easy. Upon arrival Rod and Rick the massage therapists, checked in with us individually to see what was going on with our bodies that they should be aware of. The 90 minutes flew by! I had Rod as my massage therapist. He listened to what my body needed and was receptive to my comments during the massage. He in cooperated a variety of techniques and soothed my sore legs from skiing and really helped my lower back /hip pain (from always carrying my toddler on my left hip). Hands down this was the best massage we have ever had. My husband and I agree that any other massage we have had By far fails in comparison. I would highly recommend getting a massage from Rod, if you have any aches or pains, or you just want to treat your body to some love and care in a peaceful and safe environment. Coming through Burlington for the first time, I texted Rod on Monday afternoon and he responded within 30 minutes, offering to see me that Wednesday. I had a bit of a difficulty finding the building (his practice is on the 2nd floor of the big beautiful, red brick building at the end of the street), and Rod was very responsive in helping me find him and, with a gentle smile, said not to worry that we are starting a bit later than scheduled; I will get full 60 minutes. I found Rod to be thoughtful and skillful at what he does after 20+ years of practice, clearly still really loving his job. We had such a lovely time conversing during his massage, that I think I received at least 90 minutes of massage. My body is thankful, and I left with a smile. Thank you, Rod. Wow, where to begin? I have had lots of massage's in the past. Rod is DIFFERENT! You can tell he is completely present when asking you questions and finding out what you need. (it's not the polite standard robot questions you get from some places) In my case he even took it a step further when I told him about the daily routines I do. He took care in helping me become aware! Remind your self to be kind to your body through out your work day! PAY attention to how your sitting, how much water are you drinking, are you taking care of your self? The mind is connected to your body. His hands are healers! His space is so peaceful and relaxing. I recently had a massage with Rick at Rod Cain Massage Therapy. Having had a few massages elsewhere in the past, I can say this was an excellent one. The atmosphere of the room was calm and relaxing. We had a brief discussion beforehand to see why I was there and what to expect. The level of communication Rick and I had during the massage was good. He checked in a few times to make sure the pressure wasn't too much and to help guide my breathing. He is quite skillful. I was having significant shoulder pain, and he definitely found the muscles that needed work. He also knew how to balance the pressure so that I could still breathe through it. Afterwards, Rick gave me some posture tips and showed me a stretch I can do for my shoulder, so I can help prevent future injury. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience, and it definitely helped my shoulder a lot. Highly recommend! read more

I don't go to massage therapists regularly, but do on occasion after big athletic events. I went to Rod following a pretty grueling athletic challenge. I was very, very happy with the process and the results. The studio is a comfortable, calming place down at Chace Mill. He asked me a few key questions regarding my current state, what my preferences were in terms of strength, and about any prior injuries, then got to work. He keeps things quiet and stays focused throughout the hour, paying attention to body responses to figure out how to continue, and orchestrates it with a nice flow. It's now a few hour later after receiving the massage and I feel a whole world better. Next time I need a quick recovery following a challenging event, I'll connect with Rod. read more

Rod is awesome. I carry stress in my neck a lot, to the point where sometimes after a stressful week I can barely turn my head. It's a huge pain in the, ahem, neck. Rod is the ONLY massage practitioner who has been able to improve the situation in a lasting way - I've been looking for years! I go every couple of weeks and come out walking on a cloud. He has a very versatile touch, with a lot of strength when it is needed but the capacity for a light, very soothing massage. He also listens very carefully to your needs, and is responsive to the unspoken dynamic as the massage progresses. I recently had a massage with Shannon LaPine. I must say that this was probably the best massage I have ever had. She listened to where my problem spots were, as well as if I had any concurrent injuries. Shannon focused on my problem areas while being gentle where I was injured all the while not ignoring my entire body due to time or being rushed. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a good massage therapist. It been a long while since I had a massage, and I used to go at least once a month. The space and atmosphere are comforting and soothing. I put my body through a lot, with weight training and acrobatics. Rod did an excellent job of discussing my problem areas and what I needed done. I have been to Rick many times, and his work spans the spectrum from gentle and soothing to deep and therapeutic, depending upon what you request.
