Purchased a boxer from them in 2021 (born 12/11/2020) and he's not aged well. His health has rapidly declined and after numerous vet visits they have deemed he needs to be put down due to a severe neurological disease / tumor. This is without a doubt a puppy mill, the facility is filthy, and dogs are not taken care of here. Trust the reviews. It's not worth saving a couple hundred dollars and choosing this breeder. Losing a dog is devastating. Losing a dog at 4 years old feels hard to comprehend. In January 2022, the USDA required Ellen Roberts to obtain a veterinary evaluation for three dogs with obvious issues: a boxer who was limping and had an open sore on his foot; and two mother dogs who were nursing litters of puppies and who appeared to be too thin. One of them was so thin that her vertebrae and ribs could be "easily seen and there was an abdominal tuck," according to the USDA report. We bought a king Charles cavalier puppy from ellen 3 weeks ago. We took him to the vet within 48 hours as indicated in our contract. Not only did he have parasites but he also had a horrible ear infection which im positive she knew about. He started losing fur a week after we brought him home. After 2 more vet trips. A blood draw, a skin scrapping and a 3rd fecal exam it was concluded that he has hypothyroidism. A GENETIC condition that he will have for the rest of his life and need meds for for the rest of his life. She claims her dogs are cleared and certified healthy. But AKC does not allow the breeding of any male or female with this condition. Clearly she is NOT screening her dogs appropriately. I did email her and let her know the condition of my dog. I do not want a new puppy. Just really disappointing that we spent $300+ on vet bills for an $800 that was supposedly cleared by a vet. And whats worse is our boy will have a condition thag will cause other ailments and issues as he gets older. Its all just infuriating. If you're going to breed specific breeds FOR THE LOVE OF GOD make sure you are actually screening them. A simple blood test would have shown his condition. read more

We got a cavalier from this breeder. His patella and hip joints were never in their sockets due to poor breeding. This breeder was on PETA's list of 20 worst puppy mills. Our dog had medical problems his whole, short life. He ended up being partially crippled and died from cancer at the age of 6. Horrible place and should not be breeding. read more

I located and contacted Rocky Top K9's through the website puppyfind. Before I paid I did do some research on Rocky Top K9's and the company seemed to be legit. I paid the owner Ellen in full through Venmo for a Cocker Spaniel named Max, that was supposed to be delivered to me in Mobile, AL. via carrier. Ellen called the night before to tell me the closest place the driver would come would be Pensacola, FL and I would have to meet them between 2-3 AM. Yes that was my first red flag but I had already paid. We agreed that the puppy would be sent via air. This would be the 2nd delivery. The puppy was supposed to land in Mobile, AL at 11:35 on a Tuesday. Ellen called me at 12:30 on that Tuesday to ask if I had left to go pick the puppy. I told her I was in-route and she began to tell me that the dog was not put on the flight because it was coughing. I called later that day to check on the puppy and her story was that it was fine and the vet gave it some antibiotics just incase. I called her again to confirm the 3rd delivery date and she said the puppy died the night before. She offered another puppy and considering the chain of events, I declined and requested a refund. I gave Ellen the benefit of doubt and have made several attempts to be refunded before coming to the harsh conclusion that the owner of Rocky Top K9's Ellen is an unethical business owner and a thief. If by chance Ellen does decide to become ethical and honest by refunding me, I will update the review. read more

With in a day I brought our little baby to the vet for a wellness check and he's perfect, the only thing wrong was a little yeast infection in his ear. I am amazed that this place is still in operation. We got a cavalier King Charles spaniel from her two years ago. We picked her up on a Friday, by Saturday we had to take her to the vet for a terrible case of fleas and by Sunday night she was admitted to the intensive care unit of our local pet hospital because she had parvo. When I contacted her about this she said all her dogs were healthy and fine and didn't know how our dog got parvo- perhaps from the vaccine, which our vet said was highly unlikely. We love our dog dearly and thank goodness she survived and is still with us. I reported her to animal protection and it is frustrating to see she continues to operate as a legitimate business. After educating myself, this "business" has all the red flags of a puppy mill. Do not buy dogs from them and continue supporting this operation. If you do, be aware that what you budget on paying for a dog will likely greatly increase with the medical bills you will pay for whatever ailment the poor dog has. We purchased a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy, who arrived at our home in mid-December, from Ellen Roberts and were initially very happy. This puppy is incredibly sweet, friendly, and overall good-natured. However, she has been infected with Giardiasis ever since coming from this breeder, which we've been told that this is one of the most difficult parasites to get rid of and typically comes from bad breeders. Ahead of purchasing this puppy, we were never told about these findings as promised in the agreement. The puppy came infected with this parasite and since then, we have had to pay hundreds of dollars in vet bills for repetitive fecal testing, treatments, laboratory work, etc. At one point it was so bad that she even had to have a special liver test because there was concern that her liver was not functioning properly. Months later, we are still spending money on testing and treatment to try to get rid of the parasite for this poor puppy. We contacted Ellen in an email regarding this situation and she did call us back, but on the phone, did not acknowledge the situation one bit even though that is what our initial email to her focused on entirely. Overall, we feel that since the puppy came from the breeder with this parasite and since she was in the breeder's possession upon infection, then the breeder should share some of the financial responsibility for this ongoing issue. We are very disappointed in the breeder's lack of acknowledgement and professionalism regarding this issue and will not ever purchase a puppy from Ellen Roberts again. read more

I have also seen other reviews of terrible cases of manage and death of puppies from other buys that are also being removed (see the pictures on this review page, I guess they can't be removed). Here is our experience: We purchased a boxer puppy from Ellen Roberts and upon making the 4 hour drive to pick her up we were told she had a "little cough" to be sure to get her checked out. We took her to the vet the next day and she had a severe respiratory infection, and the "worst case of coccidia" our vet had ever seen. Over the next 3 days our sweet Daisy continued to get sicker, she lost the pigment of her gums and I called Ellen who told me to take her to the emergency vet. Daisy never came back home, after 6 days of ICU treatment she passed away. She suffocated to death due to the respiratory issues she was given to us with, and Ellen Robert refused to help us with the costs, although she did suggest we seek veterinary help. She refused to refund what we paid for our puppy and would only offer a replacement puppy. We picked up our next puppy, Penny, and love her to pieces... BUT she has chronic allergies (indoor, outdoor, and food) that require $40 monthly injections to control her scratching; she has special dietary needs to help manage her allergies, and needs oral anti-histamines regularly. I should have posted a review sooner but because we do love Penny so much I stopped worrying about it.
