We love RRLC. The teachers are great & caring. I truly feel like they care for our little girl like she's their own.

Beware of Heritage Preschool. They are a wolf in sheep's clothing. Heritage has been in the news…read morefor unsavory and discriminatory practices over the past few years, both in Hoover and Homewood locations, and our recent experience with our child mirrored discrimination that was made public in the news. Heritage is the worst kind of religious school because they use "religious exemption" under the first amendment to operate without the accountability of state licensure, but they don't actually provide any ministry. Our child was showing some very sudden increased behavior concerns and was clearly being bullied by another child (my child was coming home with bite marks and bruises almost daily with most of these injuries going unreported). Not to mention my child was in a class with 22 kids at age 3 (not the 14-18 class size recommendation from the state of Alabama). Instead of addressing the actual issue of environment, they decided to put my child on a "behavior plan" with permanent removal being the final result after four weeks. When my child was invariably dismissed, the director stated "the child is not the right fit for Heritage and would benefit from a smaller class size." I agree, so why are you cramming this many kids into a classroom when you know it's not good for their development and then blaming my child for not thriving in the environment that you created? Simple. To make money. They do not care about the welfare of children, because above all else they are most concerned with being profitable. My child has since moved onto a different school and it's been a complete 180. All the problematic behaviors mysteriously melted away and my child is so much happier and well-adjusted. But, I wouldn't wish our experience on anyone. What happened to my child was a complete failure by Heritage and did nothing to protect or support children. Heritage's motto of "Grow and Flourish" is just a marketing tactic. There is no action behind that. Several red flags I ignored that I had different (and better) experiences with elsewhere both before and after. Not all these directly impacted us but were things I noticed: 1) Kids are held from "advancing" to their age-appropriate class based on being potty-trained. Any great preschool knows that this should not be the bottom line for a child moving up from a two-year old to three-year old class. It puts undue pressure on a child and punishes their intellectual and social readiness when their body may simply need a bit more time. Any good preschool has flexibility on this. 2) No Parent/Teacher conferences or the ability to speak 1:1 with teachers. When my child first showed some behavior concerns, I called a conference to address them. The teacher was not able to be present. All discussions were with the director and her assistant. I understand protecting teachers but parents should be able to interact with a child's teacher, as they are with them the most during the week. And not just at drop-off and pick-up surrounded by children and other parents. This can help build a great partnership to support the child. That level of separation and control by administration is problematic. 3) Outside support services (such as speech or other therapies) were not permitted to be held on-site. This is a preschool that claims to support children in their development while also supporting working parents. The fact that there is not an option for therapists to work with children on-site to minimize disruption to the child's routine says that children and families are not the priority. They are charging top dollar so resources/access should abound! 4) Lack of age appropriate play-based learning. In 3K, my child's daily art expression was called "paper time" (Heritage's term) where the children were expected to sit in their chairs and color worksheets. I'm serious. My child was written up on several occasions for not "staying in their seat" during paper time. Worksheets replacing art is problematic at age three and a tragedy for their development. Proper art crucial for developing fine motor skills, language, and creativity, while also fostering self-expression and emotional well-being. But Heritage's priority is their academic curriculum and agenda, and if your child dares to deviate from that, it's a problem. 5) A public-facing Facebook page that exposes children and their milestones for marketing purposes while putting their images in the hands of complete strangers. This includes images and videos of children in swimsuits. The bottom line, Heritage is preying on good and well-meaning parents who want the best for their child by selling them an upscale academic and religious experience at top dollar for care that is insufficient at best. You may read this review and think "Oh, that parent is just mad" or "That won't happen to me" but that's what I thought, too. We are an active part of the Homewood community and "fit in" by all standards. Consider yourself warned.

This place is horrible. They are I only interested in making money and they can care less about…read moreyour child. They said my 2 y/o grandson was a threat to his teachers and they kicked him out. Went to another day care and have not had one single incident or report of any behavioral problem. I have also talked to some parent of other kids who have gone there and they had the same story and experience. I made a google review and they had it removed. They also did not maintain the required child-to-teacher ratio in my grandsons 2 y/o classroom. Would never recommend this place to any one.
