    Camp store

We popped over for a day visit as we were staying nearby at Pike Lake State Park. There was no one at the little campground entrance booth, so we headed over to the nice camp store, which was staffed by a very friendly and helpful individual. We ended up playing a round of mini golf (9 holes) for a nominal fee for adults and free for kids. It looks like they need a little bit of repair on some of the greens, but we had fun! There was a poor little killdeer nesting near one of the holes, and it had done such a great job at camouflaging that we totally missed it until it fluttered off chirping. There is a small playground nearby, and we could see a big section of campground alongside the lake. The spots looked pretty nice, and definitely had a great view! There is a shelterhouse with picnic tables nearby, and then a large hill, which is home to another neat playground with four tire swings and a very tall metal slide, with a view of the amphitheater. We drove over to the small gravel parking lot that gives easy access to the 1 mile Deer Loop Trail (one of two trails at the park - the other is a 1/3 mile to a bird observation area). The Deer Loop Trail provided some neat views - it goes up and down through a gorge area, and one section lets you look down at the wetland and all of its wildlife. There were plentiful wildflowers during this spring visit too. The park also offers two swimming beaches, boating, fishing, and disc golf, as well.

No reason not to give this park 5 stars. It was clean and quite. But even camping during Covid is weird. The check in process was a little different than normal. I I have a complaint it would be the inability to find wi-fi, however the campground states it does have wi-fi. (Small thing to argue about when camping, lol) And I'm going that Covid has something to do with why couldn't find any garbage cans- so weird! As far as the campground, we will def. be back! Lots of full hook sites. LOVE that the shower houses are air conditioned.

Hill by our fire. Can't put chairs on the side of a hill.

Fairytale-like house [Cincinnati OH]…read more We couldn't just drive-by this whimsical house without stopping and doing a double take... and staring. This is the Mushroom House in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati. The amount of detail is really breathtaking: circular steel steps, deck rails of wood shingles, stained glass windows, tiled ceilings... of course, I had to snap some pics. How often do we come to Cin City. The original owner/builder by the name of Terry Brown has passed away in 2008. The house is currently not on the market and occupied as a private residence as of 2021. Here are the deets in Zillow: 1 beds, 1 baths, 1,260 sq-ft. If you are curious about the inside of the home you can click on this link and watch it on YouTube: https://youtu.be/pVUFwH9Q6fk Review #3885

It is a relatively young house, when it comes to house age. It was started to get built by architect Terry Brown in 1992 and completed in 2006. Terry Brown him self resided in it until his passing in 2008. This house looks like a mushroom from a certain angle, and like an owl from another. It is a fairytale house in the real world. There's so much fine detail, there's no wonder it had taken this genius man 14 years to complete this artistic masterpiece of a home. The spiral orange stair case was chained off not allowing access to the public. There was a car parked in the driveway as well as a surveillance camera. They also had a "no trespassing" sign. The land around, although very minimal is very well groomed and well kept. Something tells me there are people who currently reside here. I don't know how I would feel about living in a home that gets so much attention and that is always being photographed. The Mushroom House is a must see in Cincinnati. Use your fairytale imagination to guide you inside. Happy travels!

In the "little kid" playground area there are smaller stairs to climb and things to balance on. There are tunnels, a little picnic table at the bottom, and some steering wheels to spin. In the "big kid" playground the climbing is taller and definitely more advanced. The 3 year old had trouble reaching some things, but nonetheless tried! There are two awesome and obscure shaped monkey bars, many spinning seats, and large slides! They also have a great area with various giant musical instruments to play. On the far side of the playground there is a splash pad. It was still on and running today! This park is wide open and had so much space for the kids to run and play. There are many picnic tables with shade and a large shelter too! We LOVED this park!!

There is a lot of shaded areas for parents to sit and relax while the littles wear themselves out.

One of my favorite parts was the nature center. The staff and naturalists were incredibly kind and helpful, and the space itself is really well done. There's a cute gift shop, educational displays, and even a small children's museum feel with a few live animals to see. It's a great spot to learn something new or play around. Outside, the park is incredible. The trails are extremely well maintained, both the wooded paths and the paved ones, making it perfect for an easy walk or a hike. There's also an outdoor fitness trail that I loved. It has different workout stations along the way, and it's actually really fun, not just functional. It's a great way for both kids and adults to be active. There's also a huge playground and a mini water park area for kids, plus accessible bathrooms and good seasonal amenities. It's very family friendly without feeling overcrowded. If you're into disc golf, this place is a gem. There's a large disc golf course, and they even sell discs and gear right inside the nature center. Another thing worth mentioning is how amazing Great Parks of Hamilton County is overall. They offer so many programs like beginner fishing, guided hikes, plant swaps, art workshops, amphibian hunts, and even owl pellet dissections. Not all of these are specific to this park, but many are hosted here, and it really adds to how special the experience is. Overall, this is an extremely pleasant place to spend time. Whether you're walking the trails, working out, bringing kids to play, or just exploring the nature center, there's something for everyone.
