Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. Found a stray dog in my neighborhood that was skin and bones today…read more I brought her to this shelter in hope that they could help her and possibly aid her back to help before rehoming. The lady in the front, Billy (if thats even her real name, she was hesitant on telling me), was EXTREMELY rude the second i walked in the door. Had the worst attitude Ive ever heard. Not at all helpful, and couldn't care less about the dog. She refused to take the dog because I didn't have proof of residency in rockwall (I just recently moved here). The dog was microchipped so they just gave me the owners name, number, and address. I dont even know if that should be allowed. I guess they just give out a persons information to a stranger. I had to give the poor dog back to the owner who is clearly abusing her since she looked like she hadnt eaten in months. They didnt offer to give the dog water, treats, nothing. Even though she was clearly hungry and thirsty. Luckily i gave her some before i had to return her back to the owner. I cant believe these are the people Rockwall allows to watch over those animals. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional. Really shows how much the manager, owner, and city cares about the animals in need.

We recently adopted a kitten from this shelter and the adoption part of things went wonderful. We…read morehad friendly customer service and we're helped during the whole process. I have no complaints about this part of the experience. However, about 2 weeks after we adopted the kitten I started having swelling of my eyes and rashes on my skin. I saw my doctor and she narrowed it down to an allergy to the kitten. I stopped handling the kitten and my swelling would get better but every time I handled her the swelling would come back. I called the shelter for 4 days every morning and explained to them that I needed to bring the kitten back due to my allergic reaction and I was told they didn't have space. The 3rd day I was advised to call Greenville and Rockwall animal shelter only to find out from them that Rockwall is a city shelter, not a county one, and Greenville told me they only serviced Hunt county and that my home shelter needs to take the kitten back from me and it's a service to its citizens and they weren't providing that service to me as they should. I was frustrated at this point since they should've never advised me to contact these other shelters knowing they could not help. I felt like they were just trying to get me to keep the kitten. My husband finally called them on the 5th day and told them we were bringing the kitten back up to them that morning. He told them it wasn't fair to the kitten that she was caged in the front of our house to keep my reactions to a minimum. They had a whole different attitude at this point with both of us. When we arrived at the shelter the energy and attitudes were opposite of what we originally incurred during the adoption process. They acted like we had committed some crime needing to bring her back. I see now why they are full and can't find people to adopt. When you treat people with a shaming attitude for needing to return a pet I doubt that creates a safe positive interaction for the next time they might consider adopting. I do understand it may be frustrating on their end, but there is no reason to not have good customer service and create a positive interaction regardless of the reasons someone may need to return the pet to the shelter. I highly recommend the employees there remember that this is a business the city offers to its citizens. You get paid, the adoptions cost money, the surrender of an animal costs money and we the citizens pay for this service through our taxes, as such just like any other business, RETURNS are sometimes necessary.

I had a great experience adopting our kitten from here! After looking for an entire weekend, and…read moregoing to 7 different animal adoption locations in Dallas, Carrollton and Plano, I saw a Facebook post of kittens at Garland and we planned to come by the next week. Our first round of looking was frustrating, as it was hard to find kittens and you couldn't get an idea of their personality at most shelters who make you apply before you look. Garland Pawsibilities was amazing! Initially we went to the garland shelter but were directed here because they have more cats. They have this amazing kitten social room that you can go sit in, and let the animals Come to you. It was a great way to let their personalities shine and privacy for the adopters as well, with no pressure. I went in on a mission to find a tabby cat, which they did have, but this tiny little black kitten stole my heart. He came up to my boyfriend and I and sat at our feet and was just so curious about who we were. I know if they didn't have the kitten room we would've never come home with our perfect kitten! He was very young when we adopted him, so he did require more shots we paid for at his vet. Just keep this in mind for new adopters. The workers were great and let My boyfriend and I take as much time as we needed. They answered all of our questions, and each time I stop in they seem to have a similar staff that is very friendly. Thank four for all you do! A year later and we can't believe what a great cat we got. He has been happy and healthy since.

After reading through the existing (negative) reviews, I'm seeing a pattern and one that I strongly…read moreagree with. We had the same happen to us; you enter and it's immediately a sense of seriousness and "what do you want?" type of attitude. Lovely. I am always in support of people and organizations that reach out to animals in need and it warms my heart when either I or someone else, adopts. This bunch, however, comes off rude and uncaring and as though customers (potential adopters) are an inconvenience and certainly NOT the first priority. A few days ago (from today's posted date) my husband and I adopted a kitten of roughly 6-8 weeks. A sweet, beautiful cream-colored boy. The process was straight to the point and simple enough, however I'd like to make a note that when I was asking about vaccinations, microchips, etc. the woman who I was talking to paid more attention to what her friend was saying than what my questions were. I'd hate to come off as "high maintenance"; I'm simply trying to understand what the kitten is expected to receive in order to live healthy and content. That following evening I noticed the kitten was having a hard time going to the bathroom (#2) so I started inspecting him. His belly was clearly expanded but I figured he simply ate a lot at the shelter, upon examining his rectum there was a clear sign of major (MAJOR) constipation and a potential hemorrhoid. We gave the kitten a warm wash to remove any residue since he was, in fact, LEAKING from the bottom (and continued leaking). My heart broke after realizing this kitten needed medical attention and was most likely in serious discomfort. I'll save you the time about the measures we went through that day (Saturday) and following Sunday, and the fact that the whole weekend consisted of us tending to the little guy from morning till night in any way we can. My husband consulted with a local vet and he said the kitten is most likely suffering from an infection, so by keeping him safe in a kennel we were letting him rest while keeping distance from any bacteria reaching our other cat. We agreed it was best to return the kitten back to the shelter that Monday where he could get around-the-clock medical treatment. The day the kitten was returned, I had to be at work, so my husband went alone and later shared the story. All in all we spent $80 on the adoption and about $80+ more on his general care for those 1.5 days. He entered and explained the situation. The woman pointed at our adoption papers and without mentioning anything else, said that there's "no refund". My husband was shocked...he didn't even mentioned money once, in fact he answered that he doesn't care about the money, he just wants the kitten to get medical attention. She looked at the kitten sitting in our pet-taxi and asked if he'll need his taxi back. Thieves, much?! "Yes." It's clearly all about money for these guys. She took the kitten out and he left. No regard for animals or people. Rude, inconsiderate and greedy. Stay away from this place. We adopted from Plano Animal Shelter once, which was a pleasant experience and visited Rockwall Animal Shelter, which the customer service is night and day compared to this hole. - Concerned Citizen and Animal Lover

The staff is friendly; they treat my large, rather playful dog as well as they treat the small, angelic puppies. If the wait is long, and it often is, and I choose to wait outside or walk my dog, they agree to call me when it is near our time. I have no complaints about the wait; this is a low cost clinic, and people who want to get in and out quickly should go to the many nearby vets who charge twice as much for the same care. They do good work here, and they seem to genuinely care about animals. I have boarded my dog here, as well and have been happy with that service, too. I see some people complaining about how they waited long, or how their animals may not have been cured. Seriously, these are vets and vet techs. They can not promise cures, control how long a surgery may take, know about emergency situations that may arise, or treat your animals if you can not pay them. They can do no more for a pet than a doctor can do for a person. They do good work at fair prices and genuinely seem to care about animals. The place may not be fancy, but it is clean. They allow people who do not make a lot of money to care for their pets.

After paying over $2,000 for treatment, communication completely stopped. No one ever called to confirm whether the follow-up test results were positive or negative. When the clinic moved locations, I repeatedly called over the course of two months to schedule a follow-up appointment. My calls went unanswered, and although I left multiple voicemails, I never received a callback. I finally got through today, but the experience was extremely disappointing. The woman who answered was rude and dismissive, quickly insisting that if I had left a voicemail, someone would have returned my call--which clearly did not happen. When I asked questions about treatment pricing, she said only her manager could provide that information and that the manager wouldn't be back until the 3rd. When I asked for the manager's name, she hung up on me. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable, especially after spending thousands of dollars on care for my pets. I have attached screenshots showing the calls I made over the past two months. I am confident that if management reviews the voicemails from those dates, they will find the messages I left that were supposedly "answered."
