That's kinda like the Rock Shop - except the Rock Shop wouldn't have a sign saying "No Stairway To Heaven". Anyways, the point is, it's a great place to just hang out and play with some amazing instruments. This is a MEAN rock shock as in I love it! I headed over here to get some styling new headphones to use on a new project. I had already scrolled around on the world wide web and had a look at the range they offered in store. With such brands as Sennheiser, Denon and Logitech to name just a few. I immediately asked the helpful sales assistant for help looking at what was on offer, and they showed me the line up. Knowing what you want does help for an easy sale, however I was able to learn more about other brands and there uses which was very useful. I did walk away with a Pioneer brand i was after in the right shade even. I could spend hours just exploring the wonderland that is The Rock Shop Takapuna, but I will have to save that for another day when its raining out and don't feel like running off to the beach! When I was a student i used to come into this place once every couple of weeks. Officially I was 'guitar shopping' but in reality my student budget only allowed me to go in and play around with all their stuff. They were really cool about it, many a time they set me up with the Telecaster of my choice and let me wail away in one of their back rooms. I recently bought a classical guitar from them, heinously overpriced, but all imported guitars are really expensive in New Zealand. Overall I would say their prices are high, you can get anything you can get there on the Internet for less money but being able to play a guitar before you buy it is crucial in my opinion. read more

I'm going to have to be a copycat here and make a Wayne's World reference - I'm one of those people that likes to walk past music stores and go "It will be mine...Oh yes, it will be mine"... No shame in admitting that! Anyway, this Rock Shop is like all the others around the city is a musician's mecca, whether you're a guitarist like me or a bassist, drummer, keyboardist etc. As the previous reviewers said, it's a bit pricey compared to online buying but as no two instruments are ever the same, it's worth the money to be able to sit down and sample the axe you're about to blow a couple of grand on before you get it. Unfortunately my recent purchases have been confined to guitar strings and cables as my student budget dictates that I can't afford the Les Paul Goldtop that I've had my eye on, but one of these days... read more
