Opened an account online with Rockland as I was sick of the big, corporate banks. Never received a debit card, checks, account information, anything. After a month of waiting, and having sent an email to customer service that went unanswered, I went into the closest branch. I was told that I had to request a debit card (how else would I access my own money?), and that they had neglected to even order the checks. I dealt with the manager, who was quite helpful. That day I received a debit card, and she ordered my checks and also gave me my account information, such as the actual account number, without which I could do almost nothing. My ultimate goal was to close my accounts with the big guys, and transfer all my bill pay, online accounts, direct deposits to Rockland. Without access to even my own information, that was quite hard to do. It's now been over a week since the checks were ordered, and after over ten minutes on hold, I was told it would take ten business days to get them. My employer does not allow me to set up direct deposit without a cancelled check. That will mean that by the time I receive the checks, it will have been two months since opening the account, and two months before I could actually use it for anything. Therefore, Rockland has proven to me to be no different than the banks I was trying to avoid. I spoke with "Nick" during my call, and he gave me the same rehearsed speech I hear everytime I call a corporate bank. "Is there anything else I can do for you today?", being the conversation ending tagline when I was clearly frustrated and annoyed. Rather than try to save me as a customer after I had blatently stated that I was seriously rethinking my having chosen them to become my bank, that was the response I got. All that being said, I would not recommend Rockland, and I am thinking that I will choose another small, local bank that treats me right the first time. Whoever that may be; but it certainly was not Rockland Trust. read more
